Trying my first spin class this evening... I hear it's going to be pretty tough but a good, solid workout. Wish me luck

Good Luck! I've never done a spin class but have done Zumba, which was definitely fun. The one item in the gym I absolutely hate is the elliptical LOL.

I worked out yesterday without my gloves and now I have lovely callouses on my hands. Ouch! I suppose I could tape my hand up and stop whining about it, yes? May go bench press, using just the bar and see how many reps I can put out.

I have to say that as far as addictions go, being a gym rat is a good one to have. ;)

@Epic: I hate the elliptical too. Three minutes is my max and I am ready to collapse. Give me the weights over that monster. Lol

Just finished my work out, feeling pretty good! Going to have some oatmeal and a banana for breakfast ;)

@Poi: Yep, would rather have a personal trainer work me till I drop than do 5 minutes on the elliptical! And take care of those hands!

Not an elliptical fan either. Torture!

I am nursing (pun intended) some injuries, but managed 10 miles today. 3.5 running and 6.5 walking. I'm either going to zumba class tonight or just lifting in the basement. I don't really enjoy lifting (too many years as a personal trainer), but I love the results. I'm the opposite of you guys and would rather run a marathon than lift weights.

I was watching some dude on the elliptical tonight and was just amazed at how long he stayed on it. I was tired just watching him. Good on him for having that kind of endurance.

Went to the gym tonight and did a full body workout. My buddy was there and had 800lbs of weights on the leg press machine. Me, being my cocky self told him: Hey, thanks for setting that up for me ;) Haha, in my dreams, yo.

Apparently some ex NFL player cum teacher works out there. The guys were talking about him tonight and they said that he is pure muscle and in amazing shape. Cool!

So.... I just joined a gym (a very small, VERY cheap one), and I have no idea what to do when I get there! I wish I had a friend to go with me, but nobody wants to work out/they can't do it when I can. I know I should just walk in and hop on the treadmill or something (at least I know what to do on that), but for some reason I'm so intimidated! And I probably won't last more than 5 minutes on any machine-- I look fit, but I'm not-- so it's going to be kind of embarrassing if anyone else is there and sees me huffing and puffing. And actually, the treadmill is kind of out of the question because I have giant boobs. I have taken gym classes before, but I've never just gone to one by myself before.

I hear ya on that one, Fuzzy. I hate working out alone in a gym, which is why I'm using workout DVDs from Beachbody. IMHO, ask the receptionist if they have a circuit set up or pamphlets on it. I always found that doing a circuit kept me from getting bored and it was as apparent how out of shape I am due to smoking lol. I also would take headphones/MP3 player or a book so that I don't notice how long I've been on the treadmill. And honestly, who cares if you start out at a slow walk? Starting is a step forward, remember that :D

Oh, and about the boobs, I have that issue too. I have found that a really good bra (local shop here called the Bra Shoppe has the best) can really help keep those puppies in place ;)

My first spin class last night was awesome! It was probably one of the hardest workouts I've ever had but when I was done, I was so happy I did it! I am going to try to do it twice a week and move up to 3 days, along with my zumba workout on Saturdays and running twice a week. I also did circuit weights with my trainer before my spin class and focused on arms, back and abs. I'm pretty sore today but looking forward to circuit weights again on Friday. I do circuits with my trainer MWF and I am really starting to see results. Just got to get that eating in check and continue stepping up the cardio.

Also, in regards to going to the gym alone, I too used to hate it. But since I got engaged, I really have a goal in mind everytime I go and it definitely helps me enjoy it more. Getting a trainer also helped me feel more productive with my time, especially because I can ask him about cardio and he helps me figure out how to push myself harder. Also, I tell myself just 30 mins and I'm done so I push it and then get out. Incorporating intervals when running also makes things easier because I end up focusing on making it through each sprint of 2-3 mins versus the whole 30 mins, etc.

My puppies get in way too especially when bench pressing. I wear a bra and a sports bras over it to "contain" them ;)
