You are reading page 6 of When posters attack. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

Although I quite agree that a high level of asshattery was shown, notwithstanding the extenuating circumstances of the OP, it's also rather presumptuous to expect that everyone must refrain from posting something snarky prior to having thoroughly researched the poster. The wholehearted support of what is clearly an exceedingly unrealistic goal stymies me. Dreams are nice, but need we provide fodder for the impossible?

Where did I say "everyone" should refrain from posting something snarky (some people are unable to communicate otherwise :D)??? I simply gave an opinion. Now I'm unrealistic, dreaming, presumptuous , and providing fodder for the impossible??? OK . :lol2: Whatever ...:uhoh3:

My point was that people don't always know the whole story (and many don't care). To continue to badger someone in the way that was done in the other thread was at BEST ignorant.

xtxrn, I "kudoed" your post because I agreed with it. And I wasn't targeting you or your comments. I went and found her threads and there's a lot of that. You are kind. Some are kind and starry-eyed. I also deliberately refrained from quoting you so that it would be clear that my response was not directed at you.

I think we are all guilty of saying mean things. What sparked this thought for me was the treatment of Trekfan when she posts sometimes, and I thought it was worth discussing. Are there very many that I would classify as a bully-absolutely no. Trekfan seems to find them, unfortunately. Some criticize her spelling, but that's not so much a problem. It's those that call her a waste of the system that really peeve me. Thanks for the thoughts!

That thread really got me angry for the first time on here. I felt both sides came across as bullies and the woman who started the thread was left out in the cold. It definitely changed my opinion of some posters. It's really the only example of nastiness I've seen as long as I've been on here. There have been disagreements, but that's only natural where two or more people get together.

Exactly. Nastiness on one said brought forth the "oh you should know everything there is to know about every person on this website" said in an equally nasty manner. Lots of asshattery all around and very disappointing.

For some reason I think there are only 4 people who truly hated my guts, I mean they cast a scenario based on my words -- they were certain I was evil, my purpose in life was to chase newcomers away and thwart them at every turn, "thank you for reminding me why I left nursing" (bullseye!!) -- those people hung around for maybe a day or two and wandered away . . .

I suspect I have an active hater posse right now -- you know, those who took offense at something you said one time and will never, I mean never give you a kudo! You think I don't notice? ha haaa yes I do

I remember with extreme clarity every hurtful thing in those posts. But really? Less than 10 attacks and almost 4000 posts is awesome. Sometimes when someone is an *-**** to me I think to myself -- yeah but I have of kudos on allnurses so blank you!

I think the contrast between kudos received and kudos given is telling - generous members give kudos at least as often as they get them, IMHO, and there are some members who rarely acknowledge anyone else's contributions.

I don't remember every hurtful thing, but I vividly recall (and occasionally revisit) one particular thread where I was attacked by an idiot. I was so angry at the time, stepped back before responding, and seriously considered creating a second account so I could flame the OP in my own defence!

Ahhh...kudo wars. I've seen online communities where kudo options were recently added, and people's feelings were really hurt. Some admins even removed them because it just got out of hand.

Does anybody else just give the kudos without seeing who posted it? I do - I usually look at the name afterwards, but it's not part of why I give someone kudos..... I do have a bunch of people who I generally agree with, and like to see what they say....and others I have fun with on 'fun' threads- and sort of feel like I have a better idea of where they're coming from.... but if I agree with someone, I really don't pay that much attention to who it is- it doesn't stop me cold and "withdraw" my kudos. :)

I do.

Two or more people in the same thread might be saying the exact same thing that I agree with, but the delivery of the message resonates with me, so I might kudo only one of them. It's form and substance.

I do, too. Sometimes when I look afterward I think, "Oh, Im not surprised - X often posts succinct/beautifully phrased/articulate things with which I agree." Other times I think, "Interesting - Y and I so often differ; how nice to find common ground.""

I can't think of a time where I've withdrawn my kudos because of the poster, but I have changed when I clicked "kudos" midway through the post and then finished reading: "Yes, absolutely, kudo- wait, you're saying what now? No, no! If only you'd stopped at paragraph one!"
