I love this version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by George Harrison.

That last lyric really gets to me:

"I look from the wings at the play you are staging,

While my guitar gently weeps.

As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging,

While my guitar gently weeps."

I had been working in the ED at the time George had taken a turn for the worse. I was scheduled to work the day he died. I came in to work, and said half-jokingly to the ED physician, "I was thinking of calling out sick today because of George." In complete seriousness he said, "If you had, we would have totally supported your for your decision to do so."

At least with George, his death was expected. When John was killed, it was totally different. I was a junior in HS then. When I got to school, it was as if a pall had fallen over the school. "Imagine" played for morning announcements.

My first class was taught by a teacher who was a bit of a hippie; long hair, jeans, boots, vest. He made himself comfortable on top of his desk and said, "If you guys want to talk about it, let's do it here." It was surreal: girls were crying, even some of the football players were crying.

And there's your little trip back in the history of OCNRN63.
