So let's have some fun. :)

Last night, while bored, I did a Google search of the worst Christmas songs of

all time. Some of them are pretty bad. For the most part, Christmas music

annoys me but this time of the year I tolerate it, and even get in the

mood for it every now and then. Who doesn't?

So tell us, what are your least favorite Christmas songs? The ones that

make you want to put a screwdriver in your ear every time that awful

song comes on Magic 98.1, or whatever your local adult contemporary

station is called!

And then, we'll be merry and name our FAVORITE songs! Because

we can't be Scrooge all of the time!

I'll go first.

LEAST favorites: I have two...

_Santa Baby_ by Taylor Swift.... Okay. So Madonna came out with a version of

this song back in the 80's that was pretty bad. Still, she tried to sing like Betty

Boop, and did try to give the song a little bit of the same personality that

Eartha Kitt gave the original song. Well... then Taylor Swift came along and did

a version of the song that made Madonna's version sound AMAZING. I mean...

seriously... you can't sing _Santa Baby_ *straight*. You can't just walk up to

a microphone and sing the words like your singing a jingle for the local

Tractor's Supply, or something. You gotta give that song a LOT of personality.

Taylor Swift gave it, zero. Zero. Now God bless 'er, she was probably only

15 or something when she sang it, so you know, give her a break. I guess.

_Christmas Shoes_ by NewSong. This is the saddest song ever written by

anyone, ever. Ever. Okay, the song _Name_ by another Christian rock band

called Fireflight, comes very close. Anyway, I'm generally driving down the

road while I'm listening to this music on Kiss 96.9, and I really don't need

to be crying my eyes out while I'm trying to drive on solid black ice. Okay????

Now for my FAVORITES. Yay!!

_Last Christmas_ by Wham! Say what you want about this song.. I'm a

total 80's girl and I love it!!! Can't stop bopping along when I hear it! Which...

is also dangerous when you are trying to drive on black ice. Taylor Swift

also did a version of this song... which, compared to _Santa Baby_, was okay.

_Santa Claus Is Comin To Town_ by Bruce Springsteen. I actually saw this

one in a list of worst Christmas songs ever. HOW, can anyone hate this?

You would have to be a Springsteen-hating Conservative to hate this one!

Which actually... I AM conservative and I don't much care for Bruce's

political views. But I gotta forgive him because there's NOTHING,

NOTHING, like hearing him ask Clarence if he's been practicin' real hard,

so Santa will bring him a new Saxophone!!!

Remember the version of "Jingle Bells" with the barking dogs? That always cracked me up.

I DO NOT like "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" ! Very disturbing.

I love Wham!'s "Last Christmas". :)

Also love Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas", and John Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War is Over) " makes me cry, every time.

I could go on and on !

Favorites: Judy Garland, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," her voice is so very sad, yet beautiful.

Wham,! "Last Christmas," What more can be said about this song?

Mariah Carey, "All I Want For Christmas, Is You," Reminds me of my favorite movie, "Love Actually."

I absolutely hate the music from the Charlie Brown Christmas special. It's the most depressing music I've ever heard.

I love John Lennon's "Happy Christmas", Bruce Springteen's "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", and The Waitresses "Christmas Wrapping".

I dread that the season is REALLY upon us...at the first hearing of "Pa-rum-pum-pum-pum", especially if it is played before Thanksgiving.

(Sure, Mary said, go ahead and wake the kid up just after I got him to sleep.)

"The ox and lamb kept time, pa-rum-pum-pum-pum"??? The accompanying cartoon of said animals bobbing their heads from side to side...but they are not in sync with the'music'. Huh! ARGH!

I get quite tired of Burl Ives "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" about half way through the first time it is played during the season.

I'm not sure of my favorite. If I find/hear one that I enjoy, I'll come back and let you know.

"Little Drummer Boy" with Bing Crosby and David Bowie. Cannot be beat!

Go easy on Taylor Swift. Back in 2010 or so, when Tennessee got hit with terrible flooding, she donated $500,000 to the restoration of the Grand Ole Opry.

$500,000 = half a million dollars. I think she was 17 years old. She also takes up other causes.

While I don't care for any of her music, she earned my respect with that donation.
