Good morning!

J22, safe travels and enjoy!

Dianah, mom used to say "I need a vacation from my vacation".

Stars, hope you team won.  It's nice that Nannie has an early bedtime.  It's funny how cold natured the elderly can be.  I see that in my patients.  Have to wrap them up in many blankets.

Amo, I hate to part with books as well.  I went through a purge a few years ago and donated a bunch to library.  They were happy to get them in such good condition.  Why I buy books only to read them once and have them sit on a shelf is a mystery of the collector.  I still have dozens that I bought with gift certificates unread and am still buying more but not a lot other than cookbooks.  I do tend not to read as much as I used to though.  Will probably read more when I retire.   Need to get a library card.

I had a nice day off yesterday.  Got all my housework and laundry done.  Took best friend out for his birthday.  My first choice of a fancy place that has a vegan menu didn't have any reservations when I checked the night before until 8:30 pm and that's too late.  It's a smallish place that has Italian and the chef is famous for beating Bobby Flay on the show "Beat Bobby Flay" that aired in May.  My 2nd choice which I didn't make a reservation for because it's a larger place and it's Tuesday had an hour wait which was surprising.  Wound up going to an Italian place next door and it was delicious.

Going to do some meal prep and hopefully make it to the gym.

Hope everyone has a great day.

We’re sitting at a restaurant, waiting for breakfast during a layover in Seattle. It seems so surreal to be on a plane again, albeit in a mask. I remember flying a year ago in February and seeing a few masks, and thinking that might not be a bad idea. Anyway it feels good to be starting our trip!
Tweety, how fun to have discovered a new place to eat!

ugh, posting on my phone is a PITA. Know that I enjoy your posts and wish all a great day.

Hello, all~

We are currently in the middle of a tremendous thunderstorm, with extremely loud cracks of thunder, and several seemingly very close hits of lightning...maybe it hit a transformer or something. I've had to dose Ozzie with his Rescue Remedy, as this storm has made him shake so hard you'd think his head was going to fall off and his insides burst out through his skin. Sad not to be able to help him any further to go through these summer storms more easily.

Anyway, my plan to go out to get my nails done is -- temporarily, I hope -- on hold. We'll see what we see, I guess.

Tweety, I had a bunch of recently purchased and read paperbacks I didn't really feel I needed to keep, even though they each were a 'great read'. I handed a bagful over to the cashier at the gas station I go to (where you pay at a window). I asked her if she or any of her co-workers liked to read...and she said, "Yeah, well one of the girls does." (Only ONE???)  I gave her the bag and said, "Tell her I said Merry Christmas." I don't know if the libraries here take donations yet (previously wouldn't, due to COVID.) I ditched TONS of books when I was packing to move down here... Cookbooks, Diet books, Exercise books. I'd read part of them, set them aside, and never pick them up again. My unfortunate limit on plans to improve myself often lasts about three days. I'd be excited and hopeful, but eventually realized that those books wouldn't help me make a difference if I had no follow-through!!!  And, I don't really want to know, but I do wonder how much money I wasted on those types of publications. I know they were so big and heavy they made the bookshelves sag!

Welp, the rain has finally eased off and the sun is starting to shine. It's a'gonna be like a sauna out there! The steam coming off the road is about 3 to 4 feet high. Whew!

Guess I'll go see if I can get my nails done. See yez all laydah!

I used to be amazed years ago pre-retirement, esp with the geri pts. Then my Mom was like a complaining walking refrigerator who was always wrapped up. Oh, but then later when my Dad got older and was at home, there were times I couldn't stay in the house!!! I used to go upstairs to sleep over because I could open a window and close off the heater vent!

Today, I wear sweaters & socks. Even to sleep. I used to use an electric mattress pad cover, then a cover top sheet. Then it was my 3 comforters and a fourth on folded over at the bottom of my bed. So really there were 5 layers of covers!!! Kinda like one of those weighted blankets!! Oh, so toasty!!! I set my house thermostat at 73 but lower in cold weather. I don't know which season is worse. But I know I just don't like being cold.

Afternoon-

The sun is out, but we are supposed to get storms later.  Supposedly the heat will break and it will be in the low 80s tomorrow.  I do love a good thunderstorm.  It's about 98 degrees here, with a "feels like" of 104.  Of course, it's only going to be in the 60s with rain over the weekend.  Bah!  Monday might be ok.  DS turns 29 on the 4th.  That's hard for me to believe.

We finally hired a contractor to do the work my late mother's house needs to bring it up to code.  The nasty tenants will be moving out by the end of July.  I won't be sorry to see the last of them!

Tweety-I'm glad you had a nice time with BFF for his birthday.

J22-Safe travels!  Enjoy your time away.

Amo-I hate being cold, too.

Stars-Hope you were able to get out to get your nails done.

Hi to Ted, Dianah, Joe, Herring, and anyone else.  Stay cool...

Yep, I did get my nails done. The woman did okay, but I think next time I'll call ahead by a day and set up an appt w/ the woman who repaired them for me at that place the last time.

I had to stop by the bank and have my pin # changed on my debit card. I tried unsuccessfully 4 times last week, before my gmail went kerplooey, and then I REALLY couldn't get in to fix it. So the nice lady at the bank went into the computer and phone tree .... she had just as hard a time getting it straightened out as I did. She had to go through the phone-tree 5x before we got my temporary pin # and then twice more to change it to a permanent pin number. At one point she said, "WHY am I having so much trouble with this?!" I told her that's what happened to me ALL the time, and my theory is I have a magnetic field that bumfuzzles the computers when I am within a few feet from them.

BCg, my step-daughter is going on 46 or 47 this summer; now THAT'S hard for me to believe. I met her when she was 15 or so.

Nannie is fretting about whether the weather will allow the ballgame to be held tonight. I think they are playing up in NY somewhere; they are playing the NY Mets, but I'm not sure if they are away or at home. Atlanta may be having the same summer T-storms as we are, if they are playing there.

Early supper tonight, hubby ought to be back soon with it. We figured out that doing take-out a lot is possibly LESS expensive than we spend on groceries for a week.

Later!

stars - I am astonished at how in-tune, on-tack etc that Nans is re the Braves baseball games. She worries about the weather for the games, the time of the games, the players, etc. All that's pretty much normal for anyone ...

And EVERY TIME she sees Freddie Freeman, she says, "Isn't he the guy that's been with them a long time?" She has asked it SO MANY TIMES that when she starts w/ the "Isn't that the..." it is at that point I have already started answering: "Yes-yes-yes-yes, that's him!"
