Good Morning!

I got a lot done yesterday but didn't make it to yoga and I need to be better about not skipping exercise but sometimes a nap beckons me and seems more important at the moment.

Ted, it's the opposite here.  My house that I bought 19 years ago is worth almost double.  I'd never get that much for it since it needs some work, but "as is" I still might make some money.  My retirement advisor advised me that if I don't sell it would be my asset should I ever need to go into an ALF and I could try to sell it then to pay for the ALF or nursing home.  Glad you got the mowing done.

Joe, glad work is going well.

J22, I used to hand out water and spritz people during the AIDS walk as it used to be held in our still summer hot September.  They moved it to December to make it cooler and coincided with World AIDS Day.  But I didn't do any nursing duties.  Sounds fun.

Herring, just picking on you.  He is very handsome.  I crush on people on the time.  I'm crushing on a handsome real estate guy I see on Instagram.  He's single but he's 30 years younger and it's just a silly admiration.  Glad to know I'm still human.  😂

BC, hope you survived dragging through a migraine and slept well.

I used to use my crock pot for soups, stews and chilis and haven't done that in a while.  Hmmmm.....I have an Indian slow cooker cookbook.  Need to dust that off.  Love Indian.  Speaking of, I made a nice curried chickpea stew for dinner last night with greens.  I even toasted whole spices and grinded them.

In a moment of insanity texted my boss that I would work this Friday the day we are short staffed and will work five 12's in a row....if they give it to me.  I figure this will recover the $1400 I spent on the stove, microwave and Slowbro's vet bills and I'll be sitting okay until the next big expense which if you follow me is always happening.

All I can do is focus not on how tiring it's going to be, how I'm going to feel like hell, and dread it, but just stay present in take one day at a time.  Bleh

Tweety hope this 5 day stretch doesn't prove too crazy

Work was good for me, had my first review since starting this job and it went great

After work had a meeting regarding the rummage sale.  Details are gradually being worked out, though we still have 6 weeks until the sale

Cat seems better, only noticed limping in the late evening, seems pretty good this morning.  Probably just some muscle strain of some sort.

J returned from CA last night, we'll talk tonight.  From his last message sounds like things went well

Stormy day yesterday and fairly humid.  Should be cooler today and the next several days

Good Morning -

Tweety - Working FIVE 12-hour shifts in a row?!?!? Are you crazy?!?!? I get all whiney just thinking about it. Hope those work-days are kind to you! As for the real-estate market in my area. . . believe it or not, it's slowly getting better. Still, I don't know if we'll ever recup the loss of our home's value, though. If/when we sell our home, we'll be taking a financial loss, for sure. However, I can say that this home of 14+ years has given us a whole lot of memories, most of them are treasured ones. It was - IS - a "Home" in every sense of the word. I'd be happy is it were never sold. Amy? She's much less sentimental over our home than I am.

Joe - Good to read that your first work review went well. I'm sure that that was reaffirming. Also, good to read that things went well with J's CA trip. Hope the two of you can get together soon.

Recently woke up. Still haven't had First Coffee yet. I was up a good portion of the night working on the dance video. Again. Went back to bed around 3:00 AM this morning. Got a few good hours sleep.

Today?? It's my last day/night off work. This 7-day stretch of nights off from work has been really, really nice. I actually feel ready to return to work Thursday night. (I'll be doing four 12-hour shifts in a row, starting Thursday. Ugh!) Not sure what I'm going to be doing today, though. Well, I KNOW I'll be doing some grocery shopping. Amy JUST told me that she made out  a list of things to buy! L O L! It's supposed to be really hot, humid with thunder storms. So, mowing the bottom part of our property doesn't seem to be a choice, today. (I'm doing the Happy Dance!) Will probably continue on with the video-editing. As mentioned a few dozens times before here, this video-editing thing is a slow process.

Well. . . Gonna get me First Coffee.

Hope all have a nice day today! 🙂

Morning-

Migraine is gone and I slept well last night.  3 more days of work to get through.  I'm currently precepting a PA student.  She's great and is a fast learner, but it's still extra work.  Her last day is tomorrow.  I was contacted by my alma mater to take a NP student this Fall, but never heard back from them after the initial ask.  It might end up being a last minute thing.

Speaking of real estate, my house has tripled in value since I bought it 28 years ago. Prices in the greater Boston area are ridiculous.  I would only come out ahead if I sold and moved to a less expensive area of the country, which I am considering for retirement. I can't downsize around here for any less money. My DS is looking for a duplex to buy, and he is going to have slim pickings in his price range and will likely end up with something that needs a good amount of work.

Tweety-Yup, you're insane to work the 5 12s.  The money will be nice, but you will have earned every penny and more.  I hope the days are easy.

Joe-Kudos for the great review!  Glad the cat is better.

Ted-No mowing today?  Yay!!!  Get some good stuff at the store.  Congrats on losing the 15 lbs!

Hope all have a great day.

BCgradnurse - Gosh! Real estate in your are of MA must be crazy expensive. I know that the cost for apartment rentals in Boston have sky-rocketed over the past 35+ years! It's good that the value of your home has increased. So, if/when you sell your home, there's a lovely one just over the MA border in NYS which you can purchase, and STILL have $$$ left over for another home somewhere.  L O L! 😄 (Actually, Berkshire County in MA, and Columbia County in NY have a lot of 2nd home buyers from the cities of Boston and NYC.)

By the way. . . I have plans to meet another Allnurses member in a few days from now!!! Lil Nel will be flying into Albany this Monday to meet with some friends. Apparently, they'll be making their way together for a vacation in Nantucket, MA. In the meanwhile, I'll be meeting Lil Nel and her friend(s) in Albany, NY, this Monday. We all will be having a dinner together! I do enjoy meeting people from Allnurses! I've met quite a few throughout the years! 🙂

Ted-I'm not going to move anywhere that is colder and has more snow than I have presently, 😂!!! Your part of the world is gorgeous, though.

I'm so happy you're going to meet Nel.  I've had the pleasure and she is lovely.  Please tell her we miss her on the Daily Diary!

Good morning,

Hi everyone. Oh, Tweety, I used to think that working doubles (16 hours) was a good way to earn extra money. And then, every time, I would regret it it. It got harder and harder. And for you who ends up working 14 hours just seems too much for your employer to ask. But I get it about the bills. Dh and I have both maxed out our out of pocket expense for health care this year. So no more expense for the year, but a lot to pay down.

Joe, that always feels good to get positive feedback. glad to read that kitty is feeling better.

BCg, good for you for precepting the up and coming. I hear ya about trying to downsize. There isn't much on the market around here that is smaller and not falling down. And I'm not really interested in a condo and sharing a wall with neighbors. Our weather up here is pretty mild, but a lot of transplants complain about the gray days.

Herring, I think it's cute that you are innocently crushing on your NP.

NurseBlaq, what are you studying? Going back to school is exciting, and such a great example for your kids.

Ted, say hi to New for me!

I had my pacer check yesterday, and the tech removed the last of my adhesive dressing and  that hurt like h*** and brought tears to my eyes. She was concerned about the discomfort and the residual swelling, but it doesn't appear infected. She had the NP I despise look at it who just shrugged and said it will get better with time. The tech did turn the power output down a little and my pectoral muscle has stopped twitching so much. Recheck in 3 months. The grandsons and I went to the beach, but the tide was high, so we walked on the rocks, and watched the wildlife: gulls, herons, cormorants, and sea lions. Then back to my house for a nap, then we made dinner together: pasta with creamy pesto sauce and chicken sausage, Caesar salad, garlic bread, and strawberry shortcake.

Today is pack and change the sheets day. I am going to try riding my bike a little too. Cheers all.

nursej22 - Taking off the last adhesive dressing must of smart! OUCH! (Couldn't there have been a kinder way to take off the dressing??) Seems like a nice, relaxing thing to do. . . walking along the beach with your grandsons. 🙂

It's been raining outside. No mowing today. So, what does one do when it rains outside?? Nothing really constructive, of course! L O L! 😄 (Still haven't gone grocery shopping. It's RAINING outside! - Whine!! 🙃 ) BUT! I did spend some time farting around, editing video-footage, that only serves to entertain! (I need a break from editing the dance video.) Here's the completed video for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy! 🙂

😂 Ted, great teamwork!  Thank Amy for her comedy routines!!!  And, it might be my weird brain and how it works, but suppose ------ now, just suppose,  ---  crazy idea of mine!!  --------- that Amy isn't as emotionally invested in,  or connected to your home, because she NEVER HAD TO MOW THE LAWN?????????  eh???  Didja ever think of that???  😂!

Oh, and please tell Lil Nel HI from all of us!  How fun to meet someone from AN!  I had the pleasure of meeting herring once, and cherish that memory!

nurseJ22, so sorry no one at the Cards office knows how to gently remove a dressing from an already sensitive area.  So very sorry!  I assume there is no dressing on it now?  I hope it will improve for you.  What a pain (literally) it has been.   Good walk on the beach and yummy supper!

BC, good your migraine is gone, hope you sleep well tonight too.  Perhaps precepting adds interest to the job -- a different perspective.  I am always nervous when I have someone observing.  I just do things, am not good about explaining the whys and wherefores.  Others are much better teachers.  I am better at writing things than speaking.  I'm sure your preceptees appreciate your sharing how you do things, and your wisdom!

Joe, hope cat continues to improve.  Good J has returned safely.  Any fun or exciting stories from his trip?

Tweety, NO NO NO NO, no extra 12-hr shift!!  Ah well, I do understand if you took it.  One must always seek a balance.  You will likely be more at ease knowing your financial overage is covered.  And you can always rest another time.

My shift will be changing from 8-4:30 to 7:30-4, on Monday the 26th.  One of the Stress Lab cameras is going down for awhile, and we need to start sooner to fit in the patients that need to be scheduled daily.  We'll see how the new shift goes.

Have a good evening!
