PP is previous poster.  I was trying to agree with luv2 in that not every area is getting the vaccine out, even to tier 1A workers.

ah...I would have known OP but not PP. lol

i was so angry when I found out that our local health department was not planning on administering vaccines, at least not now. We actually received vaccines from the state (like 300 doses) and my manager insisted they be returned or transferred somewhere else. We have supplies stockpiled to give vaccines as a part of our disaster plan, and yet we are told "we are not in the vaccine business." I hope this changes soon. Our positive case rate is ballooning .

On a personal note, I have an appointment for my first vaccine tomorrow, and #2 in 3 weeks. I almost cried when I got the call.

I would be angry too.  I would be appalled in fact.  In Florida it is the Health Departments that get the vaccines and are responsible for distributing them to the general population.  Right now they are distributing them to people over the age of 65.  But as I said before the website crashed the first day, people couldn't get through on the phone and they ran out of what they had and stopped taking calls and appointments for now.  But it's the Health Department that's in charge and for yours to say they aren't in that business seems wrong.

The sad thing is the resistance among health care providers to believe in the vaccine and take it.

Good luck.

The Biden and Harris administration confirmed the  Trump administration had no plan. It is a major confirmation of what we as clinicians have verbalized from the beginning of this unfortunate tragedy of COVID-19. I do not blame COVID-19 on Trump and his administration. I blame the lack of response efficiently and effectively on the Trump administration. The Trump administration is like working after a lazy nurse who did nothing all shift for a crashing patient.

The latest example of how COVID -19 is really going.

I feel bad for one of our fellow nurses.

Yep, we heard the same thing from health care providers in New York last March, in Arizona in June, in South Dakota in October, and now again....

The message is being said loud and clear and the alarms are out there.  Health care has been brought to it's knees and people health care providers are practically on their hands and knees begging for help, begging the public to cooperate with mitigation.  Falls on deaf ears.

This is not rocket science. However, to really get the numbers down we need cooperation from everyone.

First, we need to bring our numbers down.

How to do this?

Educate society

1-through the mass text system, they use it all the time for Amber alerts. They could call it the COVID-19 alert system.

2-Social media platform for education of COVID-19.

3-Create a COVID-19 website that could educate society and links to the state website that could tell you when and where to get the COVID-19 test and vaccine.

Have the webpage interactive with an updated interface.

The website should allow people to ask questions. Make it interactive for providers to email questions. Minute to minute update of the Vaccine administration for the day, the death toll, and COVID-19 number in the U.S and the world. Allow people to discuss the COVID- 19 with each other.

4-Ask Republican and Democrats leaders to do a PSA about COVID-19.

5-Have the American public come up with a different mission statement to help combat COVID-19.

I have more ideas, but what do you think so far about how should we fight against COVID-19?

Again, I have no ideas and almost don't want to waste time and breathe with warnings and education.  What part of the public isn't getting the message about covid and how to stop it.  They have the same information I have.  That it's deadly, social distance, wear a mask, blah blah blah.

I'm tired of seeing yet another video of some health care provider begging the public for help and to behave themselves.  I'm tired of hearing politicians over and over saying the same thing.  I'm tired of seeing Fauci over and over saying the same thing.

All those are great ideas and definitely we need all that,  but really after almost a year, if people don't get it by now they never will.

Color me a blend of bitter and cynical.

Oh no, I am not willing to give up. I do not give up easily. I think we can mitigate and eradicate COVID-19. Think about it over 400,000 people and counting have died in the United States of America. Maybe I am naive but I honestly think the tone is set at the top. Unfortunately, Trump and his administration's response to COVID-19 put us in the position we are in today.

However, I know there must be honesty. As healthcare workers, we can not afford to get bitter and cynical we have to keep pushing forward. We are the examples for society. I think you are burnt out. In one breath we are called heroes, and in that same breath, people are refusing to listen to anything we say because we are Nurses.

We can not afford to stop fighting. Under Trump, we lost the battle, but with Biden, I honestly think we could win the War of COVID-19. However, we must be honest with ourselves. What matters more opening up society or preparing people for a shutdown?

I like your attitude.  I just don't think yet more education is really going to help.    I am cynical but not necessarily burned out.  Perhaps my tendency to stay present and in reality is my downfall because along with that I lose my faith in humanity and my sense of hopefulness.  The last four years, or last 20 years have zapped that from me, but especially the last year.

I live in Florida where there isn't and will not be a lockdown.  I rather enjoy my freedom to go bowling, to the gym, to yoga class and to restaurants.  However, like I said I'm as educated as the public, and I know how to wear a mask, to social distance and what events to say no to go to.  I've tested negative for antibodies and negative for covid.  Dumb luck perhaps, but I know how to act.

All the begging and education in the world isn't going to fix anything and forcing a lockdown, while maybe necessary would be a crying shame because the people themselves, not the government let us down. That we even have to discuss a lockdown 10 months later is disappointing.

I see the goodness in people; I know it exists. Maybe I am gullible or naive, but I know most people want to do what is right. The thing is, they do not want to be forced into the decision. In my opinion,  human life is more valuable than money. Why do the elected officials not seem to comprehend this factor?

COVID-19 is an enemy that does not care about your race, color, religion, political affiliation, sexual identity, socioeconomic status, or whatever factor causes people to discriminate. It is an enemy that we all need to defeat. The war against COVID-19 is a formidable enemy to fight because you can not see it coming or hear. The effects of COVID -19 is felt after being infected with the virus. We have the opportunity to mitigate if we make modifications in our behavior and lead by example.

Did the federal government discuss COVID-19 under the Trump administration?

Yes and then no.  Fauci became a household name, so yes they did discuss it.  Democrats were quick to criticize and lose the message with a "you said it was a hoax" and cut Trump down at ever turn at the beginning.  So rather than support a solution and lead the way Democrats turned it into a political issue as well as Republicans.

But the top leader let us down.  That the government gave up on us and threw their hands up, or gave good guidelines and the the next day said "free Michigan" failed us miserably.   That they turned on Fauci and put the economy above lives with a "it is what it is" or "don't be afraid of covid" is a huge failure.

But yes, I see the good in people as well.  I see 100% compliance with mask wearing here and people doing their best (but for the young who get together with their friends, go to bars and clubs and want to have to good team virus be damned).   People know what to do and yet more education isn't going to help.  We are going to have to force them to stay home, close businesses and declare martial law to keep them from protesting these measures, and create a massive debt.  The future is not bright.  But I'm leaving he past in the past.
