Short trip to Chicago

  1. Hi all,
I'm hitching a ride with dh to Chicago this week. While he's at a trade show for 5 days, I'll be on my own to explore. We are staying near the Navy Pier. Does anyone have some low cost and/ or must-see ideas?

I am thinking about a bus tour of the city, possibly a bike tour, and going to the Field Museum. We are going to the Navy Pier for a show, and to a Cubs game. Otherwise, no set plans.

    Thanks in advance.

Never been to Chicago unless you count a layover at O'Hare, but I usually check out Tripadvisor for things to do- although you'll have to take the 1-star and 5-star reviews with a grain of salt in some cases. Tripadvisor Chicago things to do

I've been to several Cubs games and LOVE LOVE LOVE Wrigley. It's still a small-townish ballpark, not a stadium. There is something about that ivy and the bleachers that gets me every time. Haven't been in a while and but would go back in a heartbeat!

Definitely try to see Buckingham Fountain at night. Museum of Natural History is also a good one.

You absolutely have to try Chicago-style deep dish pizza. I've had it elsewhere but it's not as good as in Chicago. Gino's is my favorite place.

The river cruises are amazing! I took an architecture tour which was really interesting. Chicago is gorgeous! And I agree that Wrigley is great.

I took the architectural river cruise today, and walked up and down Michigan Street. Tomorrow, the hop-on, hop-off double-decker tour, and the Field and Art Museums.

And a friend treated us to dinner tonight at Gibson's Steakhouse. Oh, my!

Also forgot to say the Art Institute is incredible. I live in the NYC area, mecca for museums, and I was blown away by the collections there.
