((((AKY)))) From your friend... without benefits. Although as I recall we never reached an agreement as to just what the term "benefits" entailed.... :)

(A bit of a private joke between AKY and me.. wait a minute... it might have been in a thread, so maybe it's not that private after all!)

There are no words to let you know how much I appreciate all of you.

Kolohe, our relationship seems quite unbalanced. I am the friend who gets all the benefits. You get splinters.

The news tonight sent me into another crying spell. He has had a sl. temp about everyday and they have cultured everything over and over. Resp. now growing gram pos and neg. Started on antibiotics again. He has so few veins. DVT in one arm means only one available. He has had EJs and a PICC that clotted after two days. They started OT for his remaining "good" arm because it was so swollen.

Tonight I am getting discouraged. I guess the lack of sleep is part of that. I am waking up in the middle of the night and sometimes can get back to sleep. Tonight, not so easily.

Keep those prayers and good thoughts coming. I need them more each day that progress seems just around the corner and does not happen.

Prayers coming your way. Indeed if you are tired it makes everything a lot worse. Try to take some time for yourself. Hard to do, I know. xo

Today was the worst. He is so sick and now probably septic. This evening he coughed so hard he vomited tube feeding. Temp was around 104 and we could not get it down. Then his B/P bottomed out. It took 5 hours to get his temp down. I left when they were ready to put in either another EJ line or a central line. I would be in the way and figured I should try for sleep.

I have been doing OK eating and drinking. I could not do that when Michael was in a similar situation. Sleep is tough, even with my current sleeping arrangements of sleeping with Mr. Ativan and usually my dog. I got home so late tonight that I don't even get the kicking dog.

I am going to lay down and get some sleep. Thank you again.

Grandpa owned sawmills and Dad's a logger. I've been around wood all my life. I like wood... and splinters are wood, albeit quite small. But don't forget, size doesn't matter.... :)

I'm just now reading this AKY. I'm so sorry to hear about this. You and your SO will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Things are not going well. They thought he would not make it this am. Now holding on with many drips and full vent. The chaplain stopped by and I received communion as all prayed for SO. He would hate all the machines. We all agreed that he would not suffer chest compressions if the end comes.

I am heading back to hold his hand. This morning he held it even when he was so ill. He is in God's hands.

AKY, I am so very sorry to hear the latest update. I can only imagine the déjà vu horrific emotions this is bringing back to you. You are an amazingly strong woman. While it has to be so incredibly painful, it is a sign of true love, respect and devotion that you are honoring his wishes. I have seen miracles happen in the ICU, and I am hoping with all my might that your SO receives one tonight!

Does the hospital have a recliner that you can use in his room? It may bring you peace to stay with him overnight. I am positive he will feel the strength of your presence!

I went back in until his DS came from out of town. The latest theory is possible meningitis and they will do a LP sometime over night. I am doing the best I can with food, fluids and sleep. I slept this afternoon for 2 hours with my dog. As my DD says 2 hours with the dog is as good as 4 hours sleep.

Now I need to answer a couple of texts and emails and then I will hit bed again.

Keep those prayers coming in. This morning they were minutes away from CPR, now he is stable on everything. All I hope for is comfort for SO family and all involved.

The nurses taking care of him are so good. I like to think that all of us who are brothers and sisters in nursing are as caring and loving as these nurses and all of you. Thank you.
