Good morning!

NSIME, I had to look up what "tetchy" meant.  Get that way myself too.

Nel, I have a friend that works at the VA here.  They were told of a hiring freeze and that ratios on night shift might have to go to 9:1 until it's lifted.  He's contacting the Union.  Lack of revenue from tax cuts I suppose.

J22, sounds like the jury duty has been a bit of an inconvenient ordeal.  Sorry to hear about the husband's dental needs.  Dental work is so expensive, even with insurance.

Steph, condolences to your son's mentor.

Speaking of dentists.  Kudos on having no issues Herring.

Joe, good luck with the job issues.

I had a decent day off yesterday.  Was quite productive for a change..got the car washing in the driveway and drove it to a vacuum cleaner machine at the car wash.  Just easier since I was out and about.  Got a haircut, cooked a couple of things and went to hot yoga.

Slept well but woke up 30 minutes early.  Working the dreaded Thursday and Friday, but the "season" is over and it's slowed down some.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Morning Tweety.  Hope this Thursday isn't too crazy for you

Work was slow yesterday, which was good.  Most of the team was away doing some CEUs and things could have been crazy, but weren't

Was feeling a bit off yesterday, not sure why.  Feeling better today

Talked to more recruiters yesterday, all of them seem to be recruiting for the same positions.  We'll see what they come up with

Met J for dinner and went to choir practice.  Choir season is winding down, which is kinda nice

Was warm yesterday, will be rainy today but cooler.  Temps have varied from 40s to 70s, but by next week they should be more steady

The VA in KY is hiring, Tweety. Several nurses from my facility have gone over to the VA in the past five months.

Expecting storms today. Ugh.

Need to get ready for appointment with hand surgeon.

Talk at you all later!

Morning-

Work continues to be extremely busy, as it is the height of tree pollen season in NE.  I am scheduled to meet with my boss Monday night after work to go over my review.  It should be fine, considering I wrote it myself, 😂.

Ted-Come tell us about your trip!

Tweety-It's going to be a good Thursday, right?  That's what I keep telling myself, anyway.

Joe-Glad your mood lifted a bit.

Steph-Sorry to hear about Spidey's mentor.

Hi everyone else!  Hope all is well in your lives.

Morning all.

Thanks for the condolences.  He was a sweet man and talented at what he did.  Also, had a big garden every year.

He looked like a tall, friendly, scarecrow . . . just a bit bent over.

Well, I worked out last night and woke up sore.  Out of ibuprofen so took a Naproxyn instead.  I'll have to remember to buy some more today.

I need to continue my regime as I've gained Winter Weight and it showed in some photos taken of our hospice team by my husband, who took photos from the side and showed my big tush.  "Oh honey, the camera adds 10 pounds".  No, lack of exercise and making bad food choices does.  Also, I'm getting in shape to run that 26 miles here in honor of my son running the NY Marathon.  (Speaking of which, one "internet friend" donated and I'd like to put out a thank you where ever I hang out on the net).

Tweety - there have been two post-op deaths of friends recently.  The one I mentioned who had a heart attack at home.  And another that got septic and then organ failure.  Plus, my nephew got septic from what appears when he was straight-cathed for a UA.  My sis asked me how he got MRSA in a hospital where it is supposed to be clean.  Also, talked about MRSA as if it were this big bad wolf kind of thing.  I told her she probably had MRSA in her nares.

Yes Ted . . . come tell us all!

Joe - wishing you success in your search.

BC - this is the first year I've had what might be allergies.  I sneeze like crazy every morning.  Taking a non-drowsy anti-allergy OTC med.

Still no patients.

I need to get out and walk off all these sore muscles.  You all have a great day.

Tweety: It is nice to accomplish a lot on a day off. Hope your work is OK.

Joe: Maybe one of the recruiters will find the best job for you.

BCgradnurse: You are helping more people when it is busy.

Steph: It is nice of you to thank whoever donated.

Nel: I hope the NNU staff and some VA nurses help you with your elected representatives.

Planning to get some fruit and vegetables at Trader Joe's. Yesterday was overcast and cool. I took the rest of a roast beef dinner out of the freezer and made scalloped potatoes with sliced onions, and melted cheese. Husband liked it a lot. I didn't eat any of it except the cabbage we both enjoyed. I has frozen eggplant Parmesan and cabbage.

Now the rest of the beef and the potatoes are in the freezer.

Have a good day nurses!

Good morning!

I was up at the crack of dawn (or butt-crack of dawn as dd says) to make my echocardiogram appointment. I was grateful that I was able to get it so soon. Next step is a stress test Tuesday. I was finally excused from jury duty at the end of yesterday. That is a big relief. I stopped at work to fill out my timesheet, and the managers were serving a brunch to celebrate Nurses Week. I grabbed a couple of apple wedges, but avoided the muffins.

Off now until next Wednesday. Will do housework today and maybe a nap. I almost fell asleep yesterday during the jury thing. Tomorrow we are going to see a comedian (Paula Poundstone) and then stay the night in Seattle. Then back home to go the big annual plant sale that the Master Gardeners hold every year. Sunday my eldest ds is having a Mothers Day bbq.

Tweety, hoping this Thursday is not the usual. That is dreadful about the VA. Several years ago while on nightshift on Med/Surg, the ratios were 6 or 7 to one, with no over night CNA. But patients weren't nearly as sick as they are now, and we actually let patients sleep.

BC, our big pollen burst has abated for a while, but we usually get another from grass, I think. Good luck on your eval. Did you give yourself a raise?

Steph, I am hoping to whittle off some pounds too. I have never been able to run more than 5 k. Good for you for doing a whole marathon.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day,

j22

I like Paula Poundstone, nursej. She is very funny.

When do you get results of Echocardiogram?

Got my thumb injected. The resident said he could feel how inflamed the tendon is.

The hand surgeon, alluded that he thinks I will need surgery for carpal tunnel. But we will wait for results of EMG, of course.

How limiting is this surgery?

I don't care about missing work, but it is the impact on horse chores that has me stressing.

One step, at a time.

My EMG is after Nantucket trip.

That's quite a kiss she got herring!

Yes, very funny!

My grandkids just got 6 chickens so I'm sending this to their mom. Too risque for them.

I have known a couple of coworkers that very recently with the last month have gone to the VA here, but my friend said they just got this statement this past week, so maybe it's new or regional since I can't find any back up for that.

Work was okay.  Today.  We got a nurse to come in at 11:00 to help and they float a nurse from the float team.

One more day and I'm off for four days!

Coming up to the pumpkin hour ...

Told the Neuro/Spine PA that I was amazed to feel human and relatively pain free, since none of the other prednisone scripts ever provided any real relief. She said my MRI didn't show anything alarming; reminded me that I did, after all, have a chronic degenerative condition that would not be reversing and improving, and the surgeon thought there might be some fluid/edema and-or some mild scarring of tissues sooooo;  basically, "Call us when you need us."

Got my extended fore-arm crutches in the mail today. "Requires some assembly" as it came factory-direct, so I will deal with that and practice with them tomorrow,  just in case. I don't really need them right now.

PCP suggested booping up (my term, not his) my Xanax to B.I.D. because 5 days during these past few weeks I have become so hot-and-irritated about Nannie being Nannie, I've wanted to slap my hands against my skull and scream and shreik  with increasing volume: AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH! in complete frustration. So I took an afternoon dose to keep from becoming freakout-obnoxious in the face of "The Inanity of Nannie." Now, if it happens again, I am covered for that PRN dose. He said he has NO problem increasing the X per day, he KNOWS Nannie and how she can be tough to deal with; he knows how she can be from personal experience, and he also gets filled in on things by hubby when he brings her to her appts.. He keeps saying "Bless you both; I know what you are doing is hard."

I can't get away just now. Nowhere to go. No dough to go far or rent a room. "All I want" (besides '🎼a room somewhere, far enough from the cold night air, with one enormous chair, oh, wouldn't it be loverly 🎶) is for Nannie to shut up, and also quit talking to the dogs in that overwhelmingly high-pitched nonsense baby-talk, which can be heard much more easily than if she is talking directly to me.

I get out for a few hours here and there, and also sometimes spend the day in my room or on the front porch. But I miss the "Q" of what used to be the norm in my life. I LOOOVE "Q" . And not having a Nannie plonked right into the middle of everything. This too shall pass.

Grousing over...4 'd' mos' paht.
