Opinion

I pulled this opinion from other than it's original WaPo publisher so that everyone can read it regardless of subscription.

What does the Republican party stand for?

Quote

In a long-forgotten era - say, four years ago - such a question would have elicited a very different answer. Though there was disagreement over specific issues, most Republicans would have said the party stood for some basic principles: fiscal sanity, free trade, strong on Russia, and that character and personal responsibility count. Today it's not that the Republican Party has forgotten these issues and values; instead, it actively opposes all of them.

Republicans are now officially the character doesn't count party, the personal responsibility just proves you have failed to blame the other guy party, the deficit doesn't matter party, the Russia is our ally party, and the I'm-right-and-you-are-human-scum party. Yes, it's President Donald Trump's party now, but it stands only for what he has just tweeted.

This is a dangerous time when the GOP will destroy our republic to preserve an illusion of power for a crazy man and a few sycophants.  I literally asked my republican voting relatives these questions and they are very angry with me for making them feel so uncomfortable.

I saw this column in the WaPo.

Yep.

True Conservatism has morphed into something that can only be described as the Party of Lame Excuses, The Party of Hate and The Party of Bigotry.

Meanwhile, True Conservative Jennifer Rubin's column discusses how Trump will try to win reelection, via a path void of integrity or honesty:

Sorry, Trump. Most Americans Don't Like You

is the title of today's column.

I like to read about history.  I used to marvel at how heated and lambastic journalistic and politocal opinion was in our early years compared to what I read beginning in the 1970s, as a teenager. Today, that fervent and passionate voice is back in our printed media...only to be countered by an extremely well organized, funded and performing propaganda force, both within and outside of our country working to harm our republic. No, most patriots and residents of the USA do not  "like" Trump. Unfortunately, Trump and Trumpublicans don't rely upon fair and free elections to gain or maintain power.

Trump is working with foreign powers to affect the election outcome in his favor in 2020. Again.

And the hollowing out of American institutions and laws continues unabated by Trump and Friends.

From today's WaPo:

Ben Carson's HUD Will Propose New Rule Further Weakening Enforcement Of Housing Laws

There is one word for this: Deplorable.

Another academic, Benjamin Balthaser, an associate professor of English at Indiana University, said years of war in the Middle East had only destabilized the region.

‚ÄúThis kind of reckless, outrageous behavior by this president is only going to kill more people, spend more money, and make the world far more unsafe. We have serious problems that we need to come together to solve. This is only going to make us more divided,‚ÄĚ Balthaser said.

Good to see the anti-War crowd having a say.

Yep, making the world a safe place he is.

Of course them using it as a card to get the US to lift sanctions is interesting.

Less than a week after Iran’s top military commander was killed by U.S. drone strike, the regime said Sunday that it would further scale back compliance with an international nuclear pact.

Iran will not respect any limits established in the 2015 nuclear deal on the number of uranium enrichment centrifuges, according to a state-run television broadcast.

While the other signatories of the nuclear deal ‚Ā†‚ÄĒ France, Germany, the U.K., Russia and China ‚Ā†‚ÄĒ have tried to keep the agreement alive, Tehran said its steps could be reversed if Washington lifted sanctions.

Did anyone watch Mike Pompeo on the Sunday morning news programs? Did you believe him?

No television, baloney.

I can only hear Mike Pompeo on public radio.

I have been reading more of Trump's nonsensical comments in the WaPo.

Something about hitting Iraq with billions in sanctions if it kicks out US troops.

Sure. That makes sense, right.

Then more nonsense about his Tweets serving as some kind of legal notification to Congress.

Sure. That makes sense, right.

Clearly, Trump didn't ring in the New Year with the Ativan/Haldol cocktail he so desperately needs.

The old man is an embarrassing wreck.

He really needs a babysitter.

I am absolutely gobsmacked that this man has any, let alone, thousands of loyal supporters.  Even if you agree with his administration's policies, you simply cannot deny that this man is a shill, a criminal, and a complete fraud.  To listen to him speak, it also is very apparent that he is a literal dim bulb, inarticulate, and without a shred of knowledge of world affairs or diplomacy.  Sad, alas our poor country!
