I am waiting for the predictable attack from the right wing on this thread, over William Weld running with Gary Johnson, on the Libertarian ticket in 2016.

Weld said he would be a lifelong Libertarian.

He has obviously backed away from that pronouncement.

My reaction: Who cares?

Mature people can change their minds about political parties, such as Libertarian v Republican.

Somebody can wake me up if Weld starts mocking the handicapped, bragging about sexually assaulting women and spreading hatred and lies towards minorities and anybody else who doesn't agree with him.

Sanders went from Independent to join the Democratic ticket.

We had a former Republican governor that was so moderate he took stimulus money because what the heck who would turn down a few billion dollars in the Great Recession and Florida was hurting.  But the backlash from Obama-hating republicans was so severe and unfair he left the party and ran as an independent later and lost to a Republican.  Now he's a full fledged Democrat and represents my district in congress and I've voted for him many times.  Smart man.

But yes, people have their reasons for changing parties.  Voters are free to switch parties, candidates should be able to as they evolve.

You might remember it's my dream that someone, anyone with some sort of backbone and integrity stands up to Trump and declares they will run against him on the Republican ticket.

If that person wins, more than likely I will oppose them at every policy, but it would be so nice to drain the cesspool we have now.

I know I would consider someone else.  Although not a Republican, I mentioned Howard Schultz would be someone to at least take a look at.  That was met by vitriol by a couple of people here.  A very small sample size, but makes me wonder if any moderate sort of candidate has a chance.

Tweety, please read about William Weld, and his stance on issues, such as the national debt.

I think you may like him.

I think he would be a good fit for those Republican, suburban women, who fled the GOP in the midterms and contributed to the Blue Wave.

Yes, I would be willing to accept GOP wins, if it meant that our democracy is saved from the blight Trump and Trumpsters have wrought.

I comfortably voted for William Weld as MA governor, and you know how liberal I am!

And you know MA is not a conservative state.

Maybe BC has some thoughts on him too.

I have already been online, searching out his organization.

I would be more than willing to help a moderate Republican unseat Trump in a primary.

That is how deadly serious I am about eradicating the blight.

I also voted for William Weld for governor.  His Democratic opponent was unacceptable.  I think it was the only time I've voted Republican in my life.  I think he was a good governor, and I'd love to see him oppose the debacle that is Trump.

Clinton was a moderate candidate. Obama was a moderate president. I thought the discussion about Schultz was mostly passionate argument from different perspectives.

One might argue that a moderate Democrat has better odds than does a moderate Republican, AEB the recent electoral history (2016, 2018) and current polling.

Beautiful.

Just beautiful.

The Washington Post is reporting that the latest Fox News talking head to be tapped by Trump for Nikki Haley's job, has withdrawn her name from consideration.

The reason will shock Trumpsters.

She apparently employed an illegal immigrant as a nanny!!!!!!!!

😆

Not an illegal immigrant; a legal immigrant without a proper work visa.

Are you unaware that immigration rhetoric from Trump does not differentiate between categories of immigrants.  Are you unaware that most immigrants currently illegally in the country have overstayed their visas?

What higher point did you intend to make with that statement?  How will Trump's vanity wall address visa violation?

The poster was just clarifying the truth, I didn't see a higher point intended.

I agree. There can be no higher point when the liar in chief ignores the data and fabricates a national emergency while pretending that his vanity wall will prevent those visa overstays.

I agree with Tweety, in this case, Chare.

I don't see how Trump recognizes a difference, and I believe that the woman nominated for Nikki Haley's position wouldn't have withdrawn her name from consideration, if the mistake was so clear cut.

Besides, she was still illegal to work, wasn't she?

Given Trump's hardline stance on immigration, whether legal or not, technicalities seem to make no difference in this case.

He wants a wall.

He wants to cut the number of legal immigrants.

He wants to cut the number of eligible asylum seekers.

In any event, an unqualified, Fox News talking head won't be sitting in a seat at the UN.

I am THRILLED.

It seems as though the Fox talking head employed this nanny for 10 years, and paid her in CASH.

Yet, was shocked, shocked, to learn no taxes had been paid on those monies.

Wow.

There are a whole string of lies that we are expected to believe.

Is a Nobel Prize in Trump's future?

Just a thought because I know some of you can't help yourselves, but remember this is the Trump thread, there is no need to bring up Obama's Nobel Prize and you're opinion of that, because we're talking about Trump and Obama has no relevance to the topic.  Unless of course you can't help yourselves, then have at it as I'm not the boss here.  😂
