Well, what the government funding private, religious education?

Or the government funding private, charter schools?

In this case, the government has a very long history of funding Special Olympics.

The government also funds the Paralympic military program.  Should we pull that too?  The measure of a nation is how it treats its most vulnerable and disadvantaged.  We really suck at that.  Mega tax breaks for the rich, but no more funding for the Special Olympics.  Caging children, taking away healthcare, cutting Medicare and Social Security.  We should be ashamed.

I am ashamed.

Which is why I posted my earlier comment.

Thoroughly enjoying reading about how happy people are living with Socialism in Denmark.

It is unfathomable to me, that some Americans don't believe healthcare is a right.

Hell, if a fetus has the RIGHT to be born, it surely has a RIGHT to healthcare, after birth.

Why should the government be funding charities?  How do you pick one to fund over another?

I think this is actually a good question, but I would expand that to many Government programs.

Should the government be brokering deals to sell weapons and arms, especially when they are used on children?

Should the government give tax breaks to industries that emit toxic waste?

Should the government be issuing drilling and mining rights in fragile, non-replaceable wildlife refuges and parks?

All good and reasonable questions.

It's a sports event like the regular Olympics, not necessarily a "charity event".  But you know us liberals, so politically correct.  But it's a small amount and perhaps could be made up elsewhere.

I think it's not just a matter of her wanting to watch her expenses when she seems favor families of privilege over families of need.  That's what bugs me about her cutting it.

Trump has overruled DeVos, and restored funding for Special Olympics.

I saw that on MSNBC, this afternoon.

Good.  The backlash for this one event being unfunded was severe.  Maria Shriva made a viral video on social media in support.  However, as I mentioned above, this is chump change.  What about the after school programs and other cuts that affect children.  Where's the outrage?

I know you are all volunteers, but it took so long we decided to start another congressional thread.  Maybe you can merge the two?  😂

I am outraged, Tweety.

I am ashamed at how little children, or anyone who isn't part of the 1% is valued in this society.

A woman in my Liberal Literary Ladies of Lexington book club is a retired teacher.

Teachers are very active in KY, protesting cuts and cuts in their pensions.

I told her I would protest with teachers.

Nurses, teachers, police and fire, need to unite on a number of issues.
