You are reading page 17 of The Caravan. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

But what do we do about the native born Americans, who haven't been properly vetted, and have access to all the guns they desire????

They are already here so nothing you can do. I am however in favor of some reasonable gun restrictions.

But the topic at hand is the threat, or lack there of, posed by the people in the caravan, not those already in the country illegally.

My point being that the whole hoo-ha over "500 criminals" is so much over-hyped, manufactured drama, not worth my time or energy to stress over.

I suspect that is the reason that most of credible outlets didn't report that estimated number of "criminals". It seems fairly obvious that many Trump loyalists in the administration have no ethical or moral aversion to lying or promoting false information. Some media are aware and respond accordingly.

The propaganda machine just hums along.

Who said anything about letting criminals claim asylum! The vetting process already in place, as explained by Muno, seems to stand a pretty good chance of weeding them out ... or do you still insist that there is no process? The Fox number is meaningful only if you assume that the asylum process doesn't exist. By itself and with no context - like what counts as "criminal" - ya, pretty meaningless.

Many liberals are celebrating a judge's temporary restraining order on Trump's rule that people who cross illegally can't request asylum. They get the same rights as those who entered legally. Not much incentive to wait one 's turn in line.

And, yet, that is what US law prescribes. People have a legal right to request asylum and have their request processed in the usual manner regardless of where or how they came to be in the US. I, for one, am "celebrating" (if that's the word you want to use; it's true that I am pleased with the decision) that the judge upheld the rule of law.

The laughable part is that establishment politicians, liberals and republicans, will send 1000s of troops to Afghanistan to protect them and their sovereignty/borders, but when Pres Trump sends troops to our own border it becomes "CRUEL AND YOU ARE AN EVIL MONSTER. STOP THIS NOW!!!!" from all the same idiots.

I'd like to know who these idiots are. Which politicians said this? Which liberals said this? Whom are you quoting or are you just making it up to stir the pot?

Given the nature and content of the most recent two posts, it seems evident that the intent is pot stirring. Not even very clever or effective pot stirring. Perhaps the poster forgot that a conservative started that war in Afghanistan and the Republican Congress refused to even debate it for 8 years, eh?

Washington Post "The Multilayered Uselessness of Sending US Troops to the Border Right Now"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/10/31/multi-layered-uselessness-sending-troops-border-right-now/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.4a6da37a9b6b

Sending troops to block caravan at Mexico border is waste, fraud and abuse

Oregon's Governor Kate Brown tweeted:

If @realDonaldTrump asks me to deploy Oregon Guard troops to the Mexico border, I'll say no. As Commander of Oregon's Guard, I'm deeply troubled by Trump's plan to militarize our border.

Nancy Pelosi tweeted "Donald Trump is using every cynical political trick in the book to ignite anti-immigrant fervor. Needlessly militarizing our southern border won't make Americans more safe - it's just another political calculation."

lol just a few

It's a complete freak-out. If one can't understand the President wanting to reign in thousands of folks just marching across the border to make their home here, I question your sanity. They can come LEGALLY LIKE MY OWN HUSBAND DID. We forked out OUR OWN MONEY for him to become a citizen. Lots of time. Lots of waiting. Lots of money. He was BROKE as all get out. Got a work permit. Got a job. Paid for it HIMSELF. SO CAN THEY. Insert smiling sarcastic face RIGHT HERE.

There's nothing I abhor more than some of these "Jeff Flake's." Believe me.

The difference is that it's legal to send troops to Afghanistan, it's illegal to use the military to enforce US law within (or at) US borders. If Trump wants to change that then he's free to pursue changing the law.

This is why many have pointed out that sending troops to the US/Mexico border serves little to no purpose and just costs a lot of money, not to mention lost time at home for these troops.
