People might take you more seriously if you ever posted anything that wasn't from a rabid anti-choice website, instead of the same old stuff over, and over, and over, and over ...

Life begins at conception; I was not discussing souls.

Those who have the audacity to claim choice forget (1) the innocent, baby isn't asked about their choice to live, and (2) it's easy to argue about murdering an innocent, unborn baby when one is alive. No one took away your choice by murdering you; so you want to take away the unborn babies choice by murdering the baby.

Yep.

You just can't seem to help yourself.

You do realize that returning abortion to an illegal status will only insure that millions more women are harmed or die from botched abortion attempts, right? Or perhaps you simply don't care much about actual grown and self determinant women, only products of conception.

One person always dies when there's an abortion. But you don't seem to care if an innocent baby, dies, right?

Last time I checked it was none of my business on an individual level, just like it is none of yours.

On a social level, I care enough to promote the notion of free birth control, excellent sex education in schools, and easy access to reproductive health care to poor women.

On a historical level I care that women have been terminating unwanted pregnancies since the beginning of time and we have taken steps to make it less dangerous in this country.

You should pray about how you could help poor young women avoid unwanted pregnancies without shaming them or suggesting that they are too poor to even have sex. I bet God's answer is a bit more loving than your current approach.

I'm not going to go back and read all the posts here. I'm not sure if this has already been addressed.

I usually stay away from this thread but read an article on Sporting News this morning about something that has always had me perplexed.

What do people think of the history of Margaret Sanger and the start of PP? Was she really into Eugenics?

Benjamin Watson: Planned Parenthood founded to 'exterminate blacks' | NFL | Sporting News

...It's just amazing to me and abortion saddens me, period, but it seems to be something that is really pushed on minorities and provided to minorities especially as something that they should do.

"In the public, it seems to be painted that when minorities get pregnant they need to get abortions, especially when it comes to teen pregnancy. It's like when black girls are pregnant, it's like a statistic, but when white girls get pregnant, they get a TV show."...

(Edited to add . . . I Binged "Eugenics Images" and was saddened).

Of course I had to keep Binging and Googling . . . I truly don't like it when things are taken out of context by either side and knee-jerk reactions are anathema to me.

It seems that some of her quotes are taken out of context but some of them have been disavowed by PP and she was a proponent of eugenics although she did disagree with some of the ideas:

From FactCheck.org . . . the Dem's Fact Check website.

Sanger, 'Birth Control and Racial Betterment,” Feb. 1919: We who advocate Birth Control, on the other hand, lay all our emphasis upon stopping not only the reproduction of the unfit but upon stopping all reproduction when there is not economic means of providing proper care for those who are born in health. The eugenist also believes that a woman should bear as many healthy children as possible as a duty to the state. …

We maintain that a woman possessing an adequate knowledge of her reproductive functions is the best judge of the time and conditions under which her child should be brought into the world. We further maintain that it is her right, regardless of all other considerations, to determine whether she shall bear children or not, and how many children she shall bear if she chooses to become a mother.

Sanger's early 20th century clinics later grew into what is now Planned Parenthood, and the group is aware that its founder had some views that it doesn't agree with today. In response to the controversy over Sanger, Veronica Byrd, director of African American media at Planned Parenthood, issued a statement saying:

Byrd: Planned Parenthood has a long history of condemning racism and opposes discrimination in all forms. Margaret Sanger worked for social and racial justice at a time when segregation was the law of the land. She was invited by African American leaders to help provide health care to women in the African American community and her work was praised by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For all her positive work, Margaret Sanger made statements some 80 years ago that were wrong then and are wrong now. Those statements have no bearing on the high quality health care Planned Parenthood provides today.

Thomas Jefferson sexually abused his slave - does that invalidate the Declaration of Independence?

That's apples and oranges, a red herring, a logical fallacy, etc.
