Good morning!

I slept last night!  A full 7.5 hours without interruption.  I feel somewhat human this morning.

We had a very productive day yesterday.  We bought 2 couches and a coffee table for the family room, and picked out wallpaper for the upstairs bathroom.  We got some good deals and spent less than we had budgeted.  Then we went out for a belated Valentine's Day dinner.  We went to this little restaurant with only 28 seats, where the chef does a tasting menu that's different every night. That's all they serve-there are no other choices.  We had 5 courses, and the only choice was between 2 desserts.  It was one of the best meals I've ever had.  I had a nice glass of red wine with dinner, and then a small glass of "ice cider" with dessert.  The cider was similar to a sweet ice wine.  Hmmm-maybe that's why I slept so well last night.

Will go visit Mom today.  What is everyone up to today?

Morning BC, glad you slept well.  I've been having some early waking lately but I seems to be resolving

Yesterday was quite quiet, dad was busy so I spent the time doing some cooking  cleaning exercise and rerranging things around the home.  Svengoolie was presenting The Creature From the Black Lagoon, which I skipped since he had already presented that one recently.  Instead I watched The Court Jester, which I have to say is one of Danny Kaye's best movies.

Today the usual choir and church.  Will meet J at one of our usual places for lunch.  Apart from that should be a fairly quiet day

Bit colder than usual but at least for now no more snow or ice

Good morning!

Herring, glad you enjoyed the hootenanny that wasn't a hootenanny.  🙂

BC, glad you slept well.  Carbs supposedly help you sleep, so maybe that was the difference and the win.  😂    Sounds like a good day.

Joe, have a good day.

My sister was a no-show last night and claims she forgot because she has a cold she caught from the grandkids.  She didn't sound great, so I cut her some slack.  Since best friend was going to join us it was just he and I.  Had a nice walk on the beach and a very un-healthy non-vegan meal at a new restaurant at the beach that was pretty good.

Supposed to have some warm weather the next few days.  Going to Whole Foods and yoga today, but otherwise going to lay low.

Morning all.  Been awake since sometime around 5 a.m. and got up at and made coffee.

The birthday party was fun, lots of folks came out to wish Nana a Happy 90th.  She had a little nap right before the festivities.  My youngest son, Spidey,  was there along with one of his big brothers, Aquaman and his fiance.  They got engaged last week.  I asked her to be the photographer and people kept coming up to me saying how nice she was and beautiful as well.  We teased our son that he is marrying up.  ❤️😉

Today, no plans except church and maybe go cut down a dead cedar tree.  We are running low on firewood.

Oh and the basketball game was canceled again due to snow.  Supposed to play Monday.  We'll see.

Snow flurries this morning.  Hopefully that will cease . . . I'm pretty much ready for nicer weather.

Good morning all!

BC, your restaurant sounds very nice -- different!  Good you enjoyed it.

Saw some of the birthday party pictures on FB, looked like Nana enjoyed it.  Get that firewood!

I love The Court Jester!  The "pellet with the poison" scene/script is always a delight, one of the best ever!

We had a quiet lunch yesterday, just the two of us, at a Peruvian restaurant we had never tried before.  The food was tasty, if a little salty and more carbs than I like.  Sauteed meat (or veggie meat) and tomatoes and onions over French fries , with a side of rice.  The ceviche appetizer was good.  If we go there again I will check out more soups and salads.

We visited a friend in the afternoon, the one who is recuperating from his bike accident.  He is in rehab now, and just getting the beginnings of movement back to his feet and hands.  Other friends were visiting and we enjoyed some singing and lots of chatter.  The PT went on in the midst of the guitar and cajon (box drum) playing, and C sang along while his arms and hands were exercised.

One of the singers remembered us, from when he and our youngest ds were 7 and 8, and they hung out together in 2nd grade.  He and our youngest, as I recall, were PISTOLS.  He is a smiling, tall young man now, very polite and nice.  Works as a physical therapist in a nearby town.  We exchanged numbers so ds could call and re-connect.

We had a quiet evening later.  Today will be quiet (read: chores) as well, and then at 2 we will drive out to the high desert and have a final band discussion about the CDs, followed by some sushi!  It is clear out right now but forecast calls for rain in the afternoon.

Tomorrow I have President's Day off.  Weather report calls for sunny skies.  We may go to Disneyland and walk around.

Hi all,

Sitting here enjoying second cup of coffee, watching the Sunday am news shows. Grandsons spent the night. We had baked potatoes with various toppings for dinner, and I cooked a small steak for dh. We watched the movie "Coco" on Netflix, which I really enjoyed. I made pancakes this morning instead of going out for breakfast, at the little boys' request. They are playing with legos now, and reading our collection of "Calvin and Hobbes" books. They both love to read.

Yesterday we went into Costco to buy a suitcase. Man, there is one "brick and mortar" store that is thriving. We get a lot of Canadian customers, and the parking lot was packed and a big line at the gas pumps. We got our steps in as we parked in the far corner.

Our snow is melting slowly and the sun is out today. We still have about 12 inches, more forecast for Wednesday. Dh is leaving this afternoon for an overnight trip, so I may go to a movie later. Other than that, it is the usual weekend chore of laundry. I need to dig out some summer clothes for our trip to Arizona next week. I am really looking forward to some sunshine. I don't think I could live in the desert year-round, but I do like a dose of sun once in a while.

later,

j22

BCgradnurse: Glad you slept. A delicious meal? Great!

Hi Joe!

Tweety:  Glad you and est friend had a good time. I hope your sister feels better soon.

Hi Steph! I'm glad you all enjoyed the 90th birthday party.

Sounds like a nice day nursej22! I don't even have a membership ecause our local Costco is so popular it is an adventure just getting in and out of the parking lot. Costco only shares the lot with an In & Our drive thru that ALWAYS has a long line. It would take about the same amount of time to drive to a Costco in another town that stop and go more than 1/2 hour in that parking lot. From the street there is usually a long line to get in.

Dianah: I hope your son has a good reunion with his childhood friend.

Not much I need to do today. I plan to walk to the store. I may read some.

I think the Costco here does a good business as well.  It's actually in Clearwater just north of here and the traffic is usually pretty heavy, so I've never been.

I did go to Whole Foods in Tampa today and spent my usual $200....how I do that, I'll never know.  I'll have to be careful the next couple of weeks if I want to stay on budget.

Dianah, you are describing "lomo saltado" a dish very popular in Peru and with a bit of Asian influence in that it uses soy sauce.  I had it several times in Peru and it was my favorite dish.  I've had it at the Peruvian restaurant here as well.  I've made my own vegan version too.  Peruvians are one of the odd cultures in that they eat potatoes with everything including rice.  They are crazy for potatoes which apparently was first cultivated in South America and introduced to the world.

Hello all.

What did eat, BC?!!!!!

Was the restaurant in Providence or Boston?

Glad your friend is recovering from the bike accident, Dianah.

Glad Nana's birthday was fun, Spidey.

Our cars were encased in ice this morning, leaving work. My car defrosted while I fed the parking lot cats.

One more night!!!!!!!!!!

Drizzly rain here today.

Tonight's treat is a veggie tray. Last week, I brought chocolate macaroons. They were really good!

Just looking forward to getting this shift over with.

Hope all are having a good day.

Nel- The restaurant was in Cambridge.  They had amazing bread served with cultured butter and I broke the no carb rule for it.  1st course was cured hamachi (yellowtail) over collard greens and matchstick kohlrabi with a black sesame paste.  Next course was a piece of acorn squash(about 1/4 of a squash) stuffed with Maine crabmeat, topped with pea shoots and some kind of citrusy aioli.  Main course was a piece of strip steak grilled and served over sauteed treviso greens with a grape and chestnut sauce and teff polenta.  Next course was a scoop of cranberry sorbet in a small puddle of cold sumac tea.  Dessert was a choice of a poppyseed tart with fruit or a chocolate-star anise pot du creme with meringue crumbs and lime curd.  It's definitely a special occasion place.

Costco does good business in my area too.  I rarely go, because I don't need bulk quantities of anything, but I like that they treat and pay their employees fairly.  They had good diaper prices back in the day.

Tweety- are you getting any discounts at Whole Foods with Amazon Prime?

Dianah-Glad that your friend is recuperating.  I'm sure he appreciated the company and music.

Herring-Enjoy your quiet day.  Reading is one of my favorite things to do.

Spidey's Mom-Glad your MIL's birthday was a success.  Congrats on Aquaman's engagement!

J22-More snow?  Ugh.  Your area has been walloped this year.  Enjoy the weather in AZ.

Joe-Glad your early morning awakening is resolving.

That menu was amazing, BC.

I like your fiancee. He seems to enjoy food, and knows how to pick a good restaurant!

Yes!  I used the app for discounts but forgot to check the receipt to see what discounts I got.   I also remembered to put the bill on my Amazon Prime charge card to earn 5% back.  Usually I always remember the app but forget the credit card.

Nel, I hope your shift goes well tonight.  It's tough going to work dreading it.  I know the feeling.
