Morning

Fairly quiet day yesterday.  Went out for coffee then did the cooking for the week.  The rain eased up long enough to get outside for a while, but didnt' see much in the way of birds.  Also exercised and watched some Stooges and  most of Night of the Lepus, though by the end  I was falling asleep, it was pretty dull.  Hard to make rabbits, even giant rabbits, look scary

Today have church, will exercise again later and do some more crafting.  Not much else planned

Feeling good that fall is here.  When I did get outside yesterday I saw some of the fall flowers were blooming, like goldenrod, boneset, and prairie and New England Asters.  Prairie environments typically dont' have much color until  the fall, when you see yellows and whites and purples

Will be in the 70s most of the week.  Rain should hold off, which is good as I'm headed to Madison on Saturday

Good morning!

Joe, hope you have a good relaxing day.

BC, I'm sure today won't be easy as you go through your mother's things.  Good that you're sisters are with you.  I'm sure some happy memories will emerge.  Love is always lasting.

Happy belated birthday to Stars's husband.

J22, hope the fires and smoke don't affect you guys too much.  I'm definitely not a hoarder or have a lot of stuff, but being in the same spot 20 years now I do need to go through things again and see what is necessary and what isn't.  I have lived alone 10 years here now and still have a lot of crap.

Dianah, hope you had a good time doing Jamkazam jam (I just wanted to type that).  I googled it and it seems like it was a head of it's time in doing virtual jam sessions.

Amo, that seems like an easy service to get your car sold.  Hope the chin strap helps.

Waffles seems 100% herself and gobbled up dinner and breaks.  Slowbro, not so much.  He ate a small amount yesterday for dinner and skipped breakfast.  He's drinking and his mucous membranes are nice and red and moist, so I'll let him fast a bit.  Going to get some roasted chicken.  I know Ellie who had a delicate stomach couldn't resist this and maybe getting something in his stomach will make him feel better but I won't force it.

I finally got my wireless internet fixed.  I went in person to exchange the cable modem (I have cable internet) and the guy was very nice saying that a new modern should solve the problem.  Got home and hooked it up and no internet at all.  Called them and the guy was able to do something from his end (he said he was working from home and again was super nice and professional like the last guy) and got it up and running.  I hooked up my router and my tablet worked right away.  My speaker that I stream music wireless on took some effort because I had to redownload the app and start over (which took some hits and misses to get there) but finally all is well.  I use wireless to stream songs on the speaker, and watch TV on the tablet and smart TV so I missed it.

Otherwise it was a dud of a day.  I stayed in and ordered a sub out.  Upped the dose of the melatonin per doc's instructions to 8 mg (well he said 7.5) and still didn't stay asleep.  I don't mind waking up once but four or five times a night is not good sleep.  Oh well.

Got a spot in today's 11:00 yoga class.  It's raining out there now which I think are bands from Tropical Storm Sally as our typical rainy season is afternoon storms.  This should keep it on the cooler side although it's already 76 degrees.  Not much going on otherwise.

Not sure what I'll do today other than a load of laundry. I got some green plums at Trader Joe's yesterday. They are in a paper bag to ripen. I've never tasted plums that color.

Tweety, that is great that you have your wireless internet up and running. The last time I had to upgrade it was at least 2 trips to the provider store, 2 phone calls and much rebooting. Quite a change from the old dial-up. I do most of my financial stuff on-line. At least dh and I share our bank account so he would have access if needed.

My sister, who is a book keeper thought she had our dad's stuff all figured out, including a will. But when he passed, it required several meetings with a lawyer, and she actually told him what needed to be done. It was a giant PITA. No matter how well you think you have it thought out, the system seems to designed to trip you up.

I just got back from breakfast at the diner. Had my usually crispy waffle and a slice of bacon. I rode my bike and even though the air quality is still unhealthy, it didn't seem too bad. And it just looks foggy, not the nasty brown air we had a couple of years ago.

There aren't many natural fall flowers here, when I think about it. There is some tansy blooming, but most of our color will come from the trees. Big leaf maples and vine maples are native here and will soon turn color.

I am going to work in the garden today pulling up spent veggies and spreading some compost.

Hello all!

Joe, I had to giggle when I realized Night of the Lepus was about a giant rabbit.  And I understand why they had to use the word Lepus in the title, otherwise, who would go see a horror movie called Night of the Rabbit???  Some ppl, yes.  It's just not as mysterious-sounding as Night of the Lepus.  Sorry it put you to sleep!  It will be nice for you to get out to Madison!  Hope your plans go well.

Tweety, hope Slo-bro goes for the chicken, and is soon eating normally.  And YAY your router/modem is working!  I know we depend on ours a lot!  Dh will re-set it every now and then.  He is my techno guru.

herring, I'm guessing the green plums are plum-colored inside!  That only the outer layer is green!  Hope they are delicious!

We had a good visit last night with friends.  Stayed inside, due to the AQI, and stayed 6 ft apart.  No masks.  It was nice to see them and just have a "natter."  We have printouts of the song we are to learn, and we recorded us practicing, so we can practice at home with their timing.  The "music" we have is notes and words and chords, but no timing assigned to the notes -- the music is written out in a very rudimentary fashion.  Well, we play by ear anyway, so the recording will be of more use to us than the music (except for the chords).

I read that gusty winds (probably the belated Santa Ana winds) will wreak havoc with the fires today.  I hope firelines hold and containment progress will continue, and not go backwards.  Praying for ALL firefighters, for ALL fires.

Today?  Well, not much planned.  Would like to drive up to the apple farm and see how our friends are faring.  They posted a video of 'after the fire' and reported the farm and buildings are OK, and the apples are ready to harvest.  I don't know, though, if authorities have opened up the roads to get up there, other than to residents.  Will have to investigate.

Oh, and I know dh will want to do Jamkazam.  Me?  Not sure yet.

Have a good day!

I don't know if this link will work, but here is what our air looks like:

That looks like really dreadfully thick air! Kind of like what my brain-fog is doing .... I posted TODAY's post at the END of Saturday's posts. OH WELL!

Well, spur-of-the-moment, we drove up the hill to the apple farm area.  Saw some amazing sights: a few houses on the edge of the community, hills rising behind them, then a swath of red/pink on the hills, from fire retardant drops, and then stark, charred land, to the top of the mountain.  This scene repeated over and over.  The community was saved/protected by the firefighters.

We were able to shop in the little store, buy some apples, some freshly-baked apple pies, and other goodies, and then came back down the hill so dh could host the Jamkazam jam.  On the way home we followed some heavy firefighting equipment.  The drivers turned right at the junction (which was closed for our through-put), to continue up Hwy 38 to where the fire still threatens, near Forest Falls community.  The fires is, I believe, 40% contained.  We turned left and headed home.

God bless the firefighters!!

To Amazon: Please deliver one volunteer fireman to hose-down a hot-headed Nannie!  🤣

She did not speak to me from just before supper, whence I made the mistake of saying, "Nannie! Don't dump the pills out of the cup into your hand; put them directly into your mouth from the medicine cup."  (Oh, the dreaded words "don't" and "no" ....they trip her trigger like nothing else!)

After supper, she got up and went to walk the driveway twice. Then she came in, walked right by me, went into the bathroom and slammed the door. A moment later she went into her bedroom and crawled into bed (7 PM), leaving the bedroom door open so hubby could see her when he came down the stairs, which he did. He asked, "Are you going to bed this early?"...YES!"..."Are you mad about something?" ... "NO!".... He said goodnight and he'd see her in the morning, to no reply. So he closed her bedroom door and said to me, "She needn't think we're going to start THAT kind of behavior again."

I am hoping that by tomorrow she's forgotten everything. Hubby said that, if necessary, he will have a discussion with her about the nursing home she was in, in a way that is not threatening, but just bring to mind what she has just recently been through. Don't know if it'll 'work' to switch her back to her "I am SOOOO thankful to be here!" frame of mind. *fingers crossed*

'Tis daft to dream in the divination of the power of daisy's and daffodil's petal-falls to diverge the destined-doll's dolorous ideations, deftly delivering us from the distressing, disintegrating, downward-diving, dastardly dementia ... so she and WE might dwell in a demure domicile...haHA!!!!!

"Que-sera-sera, whatever will be will be, the future's not ours to see; que-sera-sera." (😝raspberries!")
