Good Morning!

Beets are one of those tastes I acquired as an adult.  Somethings like onions and mushrooms I've grown to like as well.  I had canned vegetables of any kind.  Fresh, raw, steamed, roasted or sautéed and I'll google them up.  I once had a lover a couple of years ago swear I was on the little blue pill.  I told him it was my low cholesterol and good circulation. I wish I'd have thought to say "it's beets, you should try it" to confuse him.  😂

Joe, glad you got together with J and he's feeling better.  Have a good Sunday.

Ted, hope the weekend at work is kind. Sounds like a good event.  I usually wear the red on heart day but was off today.

Herring, hope the husband got to go home and recovers well.

Work ended on a sour note.  A patient was waiting on orders to go home four two hours and was getting agitated.  I told her we finally got her scripts and her nurse was walking on it.  She understood and said it wasn't our fault.  Then as the nurse was going to discharge her she got a call and the doc called and said he wanted her to have an ultrasound for fetal heart tones.  Why he didn't order it earlier in the day is beyond me.  The nurse told me to go tell the patient because she would be made.  I told her no that she should tell her.  She got serious attitude.  "you're the charge nurse and I ask you to help me and you said no".  She'd been with the patient all day and had rapport and I was to get yelled on because she didn't want to.  Don't think so.  Patient refused the ultrasound and went home AMA.  Why do nurses think the charge nurse is there to be their flunkies and do their dirty work.  Humph........

Morning Tweety.  That seems ridiculous, nurses should provide info to patients themselves not ask others to do it.

Yesterday was productive.  Met with the environmental group, met dad for lunch, got cooking done, got some more embroidery done, exercised, and watched Svengoolie...he had Son of Kong

Dad was happy that his ladyfriend has finally decided to sell her house and move into assisted living. It's about time, though it will likely take months for her to complete the process

Choir and church and brunch with J today.

In the 30s, gonna be windy with more snow and possibly rain this afternoon

Good morning-

i haven't felt much like posting, as I've been down in the dumps over recent events in this country.  I try not to let things get to me, but sometimes they do.  This past week was my 6 day work week.  I've had some horribly rude patients this past week.  It does wear on you after a while.  Today I am going to meet my younger sister and we'll see Little Women.  She is depressed as both she and her DH are out of work.  My older sister's DH has been out of work for over a year due to injury, and she is underemployed.  I am the only one of my siblings and spouses who are working full time.  It really is disheartening.

Tweety-I love beets.  Have since I was a kid.  That was not very nice nor professional of that nurse to try to dump the bad news delivery on you.  I hope today is better.

Joe-Glad J is better and you were able to get together.  Enjoy brunch.

Herring-I hope your husband is recovering well and is at home now.

Hi to everyone else.  Hope today is good to you.

Husband is home. I'm impressed with the young nurses and physicians on the geriatric med-surg unit. Just wonderful.

He feels great.

I disliked beets when I was a kid too. Now like them OK.

Good Afternoon!

It's good, because Nannie is asleep in the recliner. I went out for a small load of groceries. While I was gone, hubby said he saw Nannie 'looking all bunched up like she felt cold', so he went into her room and got that thick fleece blanket; he told me "It really IS a magic blanket ... she was sound asleep in less than a minute!"

It's not that it's cold in here, but this house has one of them-there heat-pumps and when it turns on, the air blowing out of the ceiling vent feels cold. I'm not much of a heat-pump fan, but at least we don't have to pay the horrifying cost of oil, and are in no danger of the house having a natural gas explosion as was in the news (twice) last year.

Personally, I have liked the places where I lived that had natural gas heat. Growing up, our house had oil heat with big ol' radiators that my dad had to 'bleed' so they wouldn't clank.(No clue of the cost of our heating oil back the.) Once I lived in an apt in Cambridge that had the absolutely noisiest radiators I have ever heard -- wrenching, scraping, banging clangs and ka-booms! That apt was always soooo hot, like 80 degrees (yes, really!) and we had to keep two windows cracked open to keep from suffocating, even on the coldest of winter days.

There is sunshine here today, temps in mid-50's, but I think we are supposed to be rainy during all of this coming week. Oh well, can't do nuthin' about it, but you can be sure Nannie will gripe repeatedly that she has NEVER seen such weather in her whole life.

I went past a road closed down that was in-the-path of one of the 6 tornado touchdowns they have officially declared happened around here. Glad they skipped over us!!! Missed us by a couple of miles. WHEW!

So, speaking of BEETS, now I have Michael Jackson's "Beat It" 😂rolling through my head, and wondering what the genesis of that particular song really was. Oh, I know, I'm bad.OH WELL! 😉

So, see yez all aftah a why-ell.

Hi. Nothing going on today. Had usual breakfast out with youngest ds. Trying to declutter the dining room table, and tackle laundry. I tried to go for a run, but the two places I went were too muddy for me, and my feet got wet and cold. Weather is cool, and overcast. I am trying to pack in my mind (have to wait until things are clean to physically pack) , get a dog sitter for Angus for the end of the month for an overnight trip to Seattle. I sautéed zucchini and crook neck squash with garlic and onion for dinner last night and it was surprisingly good. Normally those summer squashes seem tasteless to me, but perhaps because I didn't over cook them this time?

When I was growing up, we had what my parents called an "oil-burner". It was a stove that sat in the living room as the only source of heat, other than the oven. My mother went to work part-time when I was about 10, as a rural mail carrier. Her goal was to purchase an actual furnace, which she did and it was wonderful. I loved standing on the grate in the morning to warm my toes.

BC, I was one of those rude patients a couple of weeks ago. I became incensed when the tech didn't introduce herself, and felt like the staff was talking down to me. I later wrote a note to the office manager to apologize for yelling at him about my experience at their office.

gosh, I am ready for spring!

Tweety - I'm impressed and somewhat envious of those folk who try 'natural' approaches for medical problems before going the medication route. My leanings have been always been 'just give mea damn pill'. Yet I hate taking pills.

Did my computer 'grocery shopping'. I do a grocery shop-from-home service that also delivers. Since I'm housebound I've been doing my groceries this way from a local grocery chain for a while. It's limiting in that I only but one house brand, but I've gotten used to it. I mean afterall, wax paper is wax paper. And I try to order ahead so I don't run out of essentials, like 40 watt appliance bulbs. My order goes in several days ahead to give me time to add/delete as I think of things.

nursej22 - sometimes some thing just hits the WRONG way, like THE LAST NERVE, and you/I pop off. I got really incensed once years ago as I was signing in at a hosp radiology dept desk. I was seated in a whchair for the marathon long walk from ouptpt to the dept. The tech just started talking to my sister, NOT ME, though I signed in and I was passing on my paperwork to her.  How demeaning she was!!! I did one of my sarcastic "Hello, I'm here. You can talk to me" thing. I don't think she really caught on what was happening.
