Morning

BC I tend to agree, things will be bad the next few weeks.  Although here cases have been declining, though restrictions remain

NJ22 it was a weird Christmas this year

Rose glad that you will be able to do Christmas even if it is a bit late

Herring I hope your nephew recovers quickly

Hi Tweety

Stars that is probably best, not to argue with her

Amo have not heard of that type of pizza.  Rarely even hear the term tomato pie

Very cold day yesterday, tried to get out to birdwatch but only lasted 10 minutes.  Came home and tried baking cookies but they turned out poorly, probably due to old brown sugar.  Have decided to go back to just buying cookies at Trader Joe's, baking them has become dull and time consuming

Watched the remainder of the 2nd Hobbit movie, exercised, watched Stooges and Svengoolie.  Talked with my sister, something I need to do a lot more often.  Texted with J, he had his Covid and flu tests, he has a bit of a fever.  I suspect he has flu

Slept a little less well last night, but once again feel awake and fine this morning.  Trying a new sleep app, the last one wasn't nearly accurate enough.  Interesting thing the app has shown me:  My snoring, which people have long complained was loud and frequent, is almost completely gone.  Probably a result of weight loss.  I wonder if perhaps my sleep quality has improved and I don't need as much as I used to

Today have online church and online coffee hour.  Will also do some cooking too, as well as watch Call the Midwife (reading the book too).  Might do laundry if a machine is free, laundry room tends to be busy on Sundays

Weather whoudl be a bit warmer today, will try and get outside even if it's just for a walk around the block.

Good morning!

amoLucia and No Stars posted about pizza they remember from long ago. No Stars commented that food safety regulations would not allow such practices as they had then: https://allnurses-breakroom.com/saturday-december-t177946/?do=findComment&comment=1604871

Back in the fifties our Mom's brother drove ten of us cousins, his wife, mother, and sisters in a station wagon to see "The Old Aunties" in  Fort Worth Texas. It was hot on that long ride, but our uncle entertained us along the way. Just a few miles from the city we stopped to eat where uncle J knew the guy.

There was a BIG grill where BBQ beef of all cuts was cooking. Long tables of various heights had knives on chains. The guy greeted our uncle by name. He wouldn't take orders, He decided what we would eat. When he pointed at 11 year old me he said, "Brisket for this girl", and served me tender tasty brisket on a thick slice of white bread and ladled sauce on it.

There were no vegetables or side dishes. To drink there was a well with a pump and a tin cup chained to it. Later we rinsed our hands at that pump. It was fun and delicious. We didn't get sick. We were glad to not be hungry because the auntie whose house it was was an awful cook. The fried chicken was raw near the bone, the okra was sliced and boiled so was like someone blew their nose on the plate. SHE served and wouldn't let us have chocolate cake if we didn't eat it all. No cake for me.

U old retired cousins remember that trip as fondly as the many times we camped and fished at "The Great Salt Plains" lake or "Lake Tenkiller." A highlight of our lives.

Best pizza we remember was from a now-gone chain, Numero Uno.  We ordered the most fabulous garlic-and-pineapple pizza!  Their crust was special, all very yummy.

Nowadays we get pizza from a small one-man-run joint nearby, Sorrentino's .  It is delicious! Dh gets one with a white sauce, chicken, pineapple, and jalapeno.  I get his special vegetarian.  Or mushroom (with extra mushrooms).   We each get a giant pizza, and it will last us for a few days. 🙂

Not much going on here.  Was 72 on Christmas Day (same 90% of the time for the past 30+ years).  Rain is forecast tomorrow, just for the one day.  That will be nice.

Back to work tomorrow.

Have a good day!

Step-dgt went to ER again last night and admitted again back into hospital; we don't know why (nausea?) and have been waiting and waiting to hear SOMETHING. Hubby is wandering around like a ghost ... very quiet and tense. Wish I could do something to help him out. This absolutely sucks.

I prayed for you, step-daughter, Hubby, and family.

I hope that step-d is discharged soon. It seems almost cruel to let your hubby know that she is hospitalized but not why. We all know, of course, that not every hospitalization is catastrophic , but that is certainly where one's mind goes.

Weather is mild and rainy. I am about to leave to shop for a birthday gift for youngest ds and then I will bake him a birthday cake. And perhaps I will start to put tree ornaments away. dh has been studying the instructions for his hot pot/air fryer, so we'll likely try it out tonight.

I agree, Joe, that homemade cookies are not always worth the effort. I usually only bake them at holiday time.

Herring, that sounds like a memorable trip. Ugh, uncooked chicken. Yeah, no cake is worth that.

Happy belated birthday, Dianah!

Thanks, herring. Hubby did talk to his dgt while I was out at the store. She's "sick" and they don't know what's wrong with her. Sometimes I think the insurances are so eager to discharge people, they get shunted out too soon. I'm not sure if this is the 5th or 6th hospitalization, it's hard to keep track.

Hubby just went out to drive around, to get out of the house.

Nannie is still obsessed about her room: "there's no place to cook in there.", "There's no water.", "The person they had before me had water," Nannie says, and she is just not used to living in a place without water. Pointing out that there is a glass beside the bathroom sink, and that we provide all her meals, etc. ..but telling her anything....what good does it do? I can't just muzzle her so we don't have to deal with repetitious questionsquestionsquestions! Now she says that her room is "dead" because nobody talks to her in there. OY.

Okay, here's the "final" say-so from the horse's mouth ----

The doctors had her on Dilaudid for at least six weeks, and then cut it off ... no weaning, no step-down med ... so, she's going through an addiction withdrawal !!! Yep, that'd make someone feel pretty darn sick.

PPFFFTTTTT! Stupid doctors.

Stars that seems to be a likely cause

Here's hoping she's discharged soon and they taper it slowly

Saying more prayers for your step-gdtr and her medical team, No Stars.

Dh got the new router working but we still have troubles with freezing up during a streaming movie or series.  Dunno why.  It's beyond my pea-brain, and according to dh there are multiple possibilities...  Not going there.  First World Woes.
