i know that there are some of us that are trying to quit smoking or want to try to quit. i have three days under my belt cold turkey. this is how i have quit the two other times i did it, so it is what i am used to and the best way for me. i was hoping we could all support each other here. i know how difficult it is and when you have others around you trying to do as you are, they won't be critical. so, how about it?

if you have come here to bash smokers...please leave now. this is for support in quitting smoking or wanting to quit! it's hard enough to do without others being derogatory towards us.

I just read about this site yesterday-

http://www.tobaccofreenurses.org/

Our secret weapon against smoking? Each other.

Welcome to the web site for Tobacco Free Nurses Initiative, funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This is the first national program focused on helping nurses and student nurses to stop smoking. Our partners on this project include the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, American Nurses Foundation/American Nurses Association, and the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurses Associations

I just wanted to say 'you CAN do it'

I haven't any personal experience in giving up smoking as I've never smoked but my Nan gave up smoking using a fake cigarette and my Grandpa gave up cold turkey.

Good luck, take it one day at a time and don't be too hard on yourself.

Congratulations on making it through the first three days :hatparty:

Thanks Emmy! I appreciate it. I wish more people would post on here. I was really hoping for a supportive thread for this truly very hard task.

Hi Kim

How are you doing.

If you want to be a midwife I'd recommend you read Baby Catcher by

Peggy Vincent, It'll keep your hands and mind occupied for a day - you won't be able to put it down but it will at least help you through one more day :chuckle

Seriously, you've done great so far, just get through today :)

Emmy...I'm working on it. I quit at noon on Tuesday and I'm still hanging in there. Every day is a challenge, especially when my upstairs neighbor smokes and I get a whiff once in a while! As for the CNM...I'm not sure I want to do it anymore. I am thinking on it and am going to give it time and get through my first two years of school and see where I am (and where the profession is) then.

Now, come on aren't there any other nurses out there willing to give support or wanting to quit?
