Good Morning!

Hope all is well with everyone. ūüôā

It was a nice day, yesterday. The sun was out, the humidity was low, and the temperature was in the low-70s.  Perfect day for a nice hike. So, that's what Amy and I did yesterday afternoon. We went to a local conservation area and enjoyed the outdoors. Of course, I took my happy drone with me and got some nice video-footage of the area where we hiked. Yesterday morning, I had to go to work for a skills-day practice session. Each year we're required to demonstrate proper skills on equipment, and go through scenarios that have to do with ACLS & PALS. Yesterday, was a practice day for the actual skills-day that'll be held next Friday. For some of the equipment that we don't regularly use, these skills-days are a good opportunity to clean out the "cob-webs" on using them.

I'm scheduled to work tonight and tomorrow night. Because I'm taking a vacation starting later this month into October, I will be declining being On Call if offered. I need to save up my Earned Time (ET). Besides, Sunday night is the Labor Day holiday for us night workers. I don't want to give up the time-and-a-half pay rate for working Sunday night.

As for working on the dance recital video. . . I got a fair amount of work on it, earlier this week. But I did not even look at it Thursday and Friday. I'm off Monday & Tuesday, next week. I'll get back to editing that video project then.

As for scheduling an HOA meeting. . . I'm going to provide the other HOA officers a list of available dates which would be best for me to attend an on-line HOA meeting. It seems that we're all avoiding this, though. L O L! Still, we got to get the ball rolling. AmoLucia - I enjoyed you sharing about your experience as secretary for you condominium association. It seems that the lack of interest in being officers for HOA and condominium associations is a universal challenge. Amy and I have been living in our home for over 15 years, now. I've served as secretary for going on 8 years (although, not consecutively). The treasurer has held his position on the HOA board for even longer. Truly, it's time for some "young blood" to take on these responsibilities. Don't know if I'll hold my breath on this, though.

Today is my father's birthday. As you know, my father passed away last year. His death that night, actually watching him take his last breath, remains a vivid memory. But today, I focus on his life. He was a good man, well-beloved by his family, and well-beloved by the congregations that he served as an Episcopal Priest. I know that I am not alone in losing my parents. It seems that most, here, are at the point in life when parents have "Gone to Heaven". Admittedly, it's a weird reality to face, at least for me. Today, I am grateful for the wonderful memories that I hold. . . that we hold. . . of all our Loved Ones in Heaven. Happy Birthday, Dad! (((Heavenly Hug)))

Peace, folks. . .

Ted

Morning Ted.  It can be difficult when you come up on a birthday of a deceased loved one.  I know my sister does a little remembrance every year on our mom's birthday

Work was mostly pretty good, although again a brief burst of work during the morning.  Got enough work done for the week

J's allergies were still acting up so we're delaying dinner until tonight.  Hopefully he'll feel up to it today

Met with the cat sitter yesterday, gave her keys and instructions

Today planning to go birdwatching and then do some baking aftewards.  Same cookie recipe as before, this time I chilled the dough overnight, hopefully this will help it turn out better.  Need to stop at the farmer's market too

Will skip Svengoolie tonight, he has The Blob which I've always found boring

Weather should be good today but rain expected tomorrow

Morning-

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers.  It's been a difficult time this past week.  I still think I'm in shock.  I walked the beach for a while yesterday.  The sound of the waves and the smell of salt air bring me a sense of peace.  Mom's service was beautiful.  My younger sister wrote a beautiful eulogy. Mom loved any type of animal print clothing, so we all wore something leopard print to the service. I'm sure she was looking down on us laughing.

Ted-my heart is with you today.  I hope you find some peace in your memories.

Joe-I hope you and J are able to get together today.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

Hello all!

Ted, hope work isn't too too busy tonight.  Lovely hike (got your steps in)! I enjoy any of the videos/music you share.

Joe, hope you and J can get together.¬† Flareup from allergies can greatly affect one's day!¬† How is your craft coming?¬† Hope the cookies turn out better for you (though I expect the others were just visually disappointing, still tasted great ūüėČ ).

BC, I'm sure this past week has gone by in a fog.  It sounds like the service was well-suited to your mom.  Hugs (((((((((((((((((((( BC )))))))))))))))))))))))))  Rest.

Ah, the weekend -- a LONG weekend (we have Monday off) is HERE!  I was the only Case Manager yesterday and it was steady-busy all day.  I implemented a little cheat-sheet for the clerks who take phone calls from pts and direct them to the CMs.  We each have been fielding calls from whoever they are sent to -- regardless of whether the pt is established with EP (Electrophysiology), Heart Failure Clinic, or Cardiology in general --- or even NOT established with Cardiology!  So I devised a little triage flow sheet, hopefully to help them when they initially triage the call.  IS the pt established w/Cardiology?  If so, with which service?  (Ah, then call THAT CM, not the CM of your choice!) Why did the pt call (med refill, etc)?

I know the clerks are not clinical, tried to make it easy and right there to remind them of what to ask and where to send the call.  Hope it helps, time will tell.  I reminded them it can always be tweaked (not twerked!!), to let me know if it needs to be changed to better suit their needs.

I did that first-thing, then fielded pt calls and returned them, all day!  Mostly clinic-type work, though I did refer one patient to our sister hospital for surgery.

I had a little headache by the time I went home.  Stopped by the Credit Union on my way home, did my business there.  It was a quiet evening, and I was tired.

Did NOT sleep till 9 or 10 this morning!

We were scheduled to help with music for a Vespers tonight at the Desert Hot Springs church.  It was to be outside, in the shade of the building.  Well, we got a call last night from our friend Pastor C, who arranged the music/vespers:  Vespers is CANCELLED!  It is predicted to be 116-117 degrees tomorrow, so that's a lil too hot to be sitting outside for any length of time.  We do have a heat warning issued for the entire Labor Day Weekend.  We will be laying low and staying inside (so what's new???).

Hope you have a good day!

Good Noonday!

I have only been up for half an hour, so I am having coffee out on the back patio which is still in the shade. The temp, though, is a marvelous low 80-ish and the humidity is very low, plus there is a lovely breeze. Aahhhhhh!

Not sure of the itinerary is for today. It being Saturday and Monday being a Holiday, there will be no banking or post-office-ing. I know hubby is going to be mowing the lawn. Nannie is in her recliner. I like her better mood, although she still is a chatterbox; she'd have to be deeply under anesthesia to stop that!

Probably will stop by here later on~

Hugs BC.

My dad's 87th birthday was on the 2nd.   I think about them often and the dreaded phone call that is coming one day.

Glad to hear of Nannie's better demeanor

Working this weekend.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Latest project should be done within a week

Cookies seem to have come out better, although the dough is crumbly and hard to work with.  Might have to reduce the amount of oil and chips used

Just yesterday husband and I talked about our family members who have passed. Good memories.

Our kids and I are blessed to have known his mother's brother, Uncle John. He was born in the 1800s and died in 1977. Married with no kids he paid to send three of his sisters kids to college. When they were children he bought new shoes and school supplies for all ten kids, and any cousins living there that year.

He reminisced about he and his sister's childhood. I wrote about what he told me and copied his memories for his nieces, nephews, and two younger generations and first handed out copies, made at a copy store in 1989.

Our daughter remembers him teaching her to tie her shoes.

Nice memories. He was a wonderful man.

Joe - I will be watching 'The Blob'. Like that movie. If I recall, some of the diner scenes were filmed around the Philly area. It was a very early, if not first, TV use of zambony-ing the floors. Like they do for ice hockey floor maint today

What kind of cookies? That one recipe seems to be giving you the darndest time. But I bet when you nail it, it'll be fantastic!

herring - those are the things that are soooo nice to remember. I think off you & dianah for those Calif fires and the HEAT WAVES! Hoping you stay safe.

Joe - are you adding some alternative shortening, leavening or sweetening items? They can make a big difference! I'm going to make my simple crockpot stewed apricots/prunes again. Only this time, I plan to leave out the sugar. I want to use the blue 'Equal' sweetener. But I read somewhere that those sweeteners shouldn't be added to the cooking process. So I'll give it a try again. I like using anise seeds - like licorice in it. I was using rosemary - good also. Also took out a chicken breast to thaw - HUGE, like the chicken was exercising its pecs!!! Think I want to do something Tuscany with it. Again, I the crockpot as it's the easiest for me to manage.

stars - am so glad that Nans is better behaviorally. I'm getting more & more thoughts about her abrupt discharge, altho I'm not surprised because she was admitted Medicare. That is very time-sensitive based on continuing skilled need. Once she plateaued out, she became custodial - not coverable. Could she have been given any official documents to HERSELF by the facility staff? Like look in all her loose papers. I know I was given all my documents to me, even way back when I was in that NH From Hell.

Just a thought to say, I don't think the NH discharged her with a whch just for the sake of giving it to her. I believe she was issued it thru Therapy and it was covered by Medicare (Nans may have been billed for a difference.) Does it look brand new??

I'm concerned there was another resident with the same name as you say. I'd be fine-tooth combing all her bills and reports and documents. I pray that there were no mistakes between the 2 of them, but in these C19 times, nothing is certain. Makes me think if things may also be incorrect for that other pt.

Now is the time for y'all to start saving EVERY receipt for EVERYTHING that is bought for her use. From her pullups & pads, to a haircut and hairspray. Every prescription and OTC, to all socks & shoes. EVERYTHING to facilitate 'caid 'spend down'.

Don't know how complete all her legal stuff is, but you may need to consider having her competency determined NOW. That decision means everything.

Another fire started this morning around 1030, about 20 miles from us, as the crow flies.  It is in the foothills, moving towards a local ridge - away from us but towards Oak Glen, the apple community.  It has been evacuated, and a couple other mountain communities are on alert to evacuate.  Prayers going out, that the fire is soon contained.

I went out to get some food this evening (sun is not down yet) and this is what I came back to, in the car:

Oh, and I took this a few days ago.¬† Dh and I were doing the on-line jam, and I glanced over at the other couch and there he was -- totally relaxed!¬† Sorry, the pic is a little blurry but you get the idea. ūüôā

I am home now, and the temp shown in the car was 109 degrees.  We are INSIDE now, a/c on.

Have a good evening!
