Ted glad you have 4 days off, although the puppy will probably take up a lot of that time

Amo I think the holiday was officially recognized yesterday, although I noticed that the post office was still delivering mail

Stars good luck with Nannie's nails

Work was kinda crazy yesterday, until we got into the afternoon when things settled down

The rest of the day was calm, just exercised and worked on embroidery. Also starting work on packing for the reunion next week.

Today will go out birdwatching early, after getting coffee.  Will also pick some things up at the farmer's market for the soup I'm making.

Will also exercise and watch some of the Three Stooges.  Svengoolie has Curse of the Undead, which is a western with a vampire, it's OK

Weather will be a bit cooler today, in the mid 80s.  Rain should hold off until tomorrow

Good Morning!

"It's another beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day to be neighbors. . . "

Well. . . actually, it's overcast outside, with a high percentage of rain and thunderstorms. But, I like the lyrics and song from the "Mr. Rogers" show. (Used to "watch" that show during the day to help me go to sleep after working the night shift.)

So what went on yesterday??? Well. . . puppy, puppy, puppy. (Walks, training, and car-rides to outdoor ice cream stands to socialize with people and other dogs - and for "mom" and "dad" to have some ice cream!)

So what's the plan for today??? Well. . . puppy, puppy, and puppy. Oh! I'm scheduled to work tonight. (YES!!)

Actually. . . this past week was supposed to have been my scheduled summer vacation week from work. BUT. . . I didn't have enough Earned Time (ET), so I rescinded my vacation and took on hours as either ICU Nurse or Shift Director.  I need to save my ET for our re-re-rescheduled vacation in Italy that's (currently) planned for the end of September into October of this year. Currently, I have only about 1 hour ET left. So, I better get saving!!! (We're going to Italy no matter what amount of ET I have left!!!)

Tomorrow??? It's church in the morning, then - (drum roll, please) - puppy, puppy and puppy.

I hope all have a pleasant day and weekend! Peace! 🙂

Ted

Hi Joe!

I see that we posted today's "Daily Diary" nearly at the same time!! (It seems that you were 1 minute ahead of me! LOL! 😛 )

Seems like you have a nice day planed for your self. You're starting the day off with drinking coffee (then birdwatching). Every day should start off with coffee!! LOL! 😄

Good Morning!
Joe, enjoy the weekend and the soup.

Ted, hope you have a good day.  Looks like European travel is going to be okay.  My boss is going to France in September.  They seem to be lifting restrictions on Americans.  I'm sure with your longevity you'll pile up that time quick.  But also the temptation of being on call must be high.  LOL

Stars, I would have to delegate toenail duty to a professional.  I just couldn't do it.  Ugh...

Speaking of time of, apparently with so many people not traveling  because of covid a lot of people in my organization are starting to get close to the 320 hours we're allowed to keep, so the organization is offering a one time buy back down to 240 at 100%.  Usually they would just cap people off and they would stop accruing hours.  I like how this organization listens to it's employees concerns and can act if they can.   I don't quite understand these people.  I took a staycation and stayed home rather than let my hours accrue that high. Still, I'm kind of with them and let my hours pile up since there hasn't been anywhere to go.  With the time I took off with BF when his hip broke I have 250 hours so not sure I'll take the 10 hour buy out, but I might.  But this includes sick time and vacation time combined into PTO.  So I want to make sure I have enough time for emergencies and sick time.

I'm supportive of the Juneteenth holiday as it's one of the most important anniversaries in American History.  However, I think 12 Federal holidays are too much and they need to find one or two to drop.  Maybe combine Memorial Day and Veterans Days as people don't always know the difference.   Or dropping President's Day or Columbus Day (but there's the idea that people want to change this to Indigenous People's Day).  But anyway, it's good this is starting to be recognized and it wasn't always the case.  It was off my radar for probably the first 40 or so years of my life.

I actually had a decent day yesterday.  Started with 4:1 ratio and discharged two patients by 11:00 and was able to get charting done before the next patient arrived.  Another scheduled admission was canceled so I was able to get out on time for the first time in months.

Nothing much happening today.  Slept in and feel rested.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning. Just finished first coffee and avocado toast. My insides finally feel normal again. I spent a lot of last week fretting about the diet restrictions (low residue, avoiding nuts and seeds, and fats) and am happy to be back to my multi-grain toast with avocado and flax seed meal and alfalfa sprouts.

Too many holidays, hmm. I'm not sure about that. My neighbors to the north (Canada) have at least one holiday every month. In August they have British Columbia Day! I could do away with New Years Day, frankly. And I would do away with switching holidays to Mondays. When I was little I never had to go to school on my birthday because it falls on Washington's birthday, and then they switched it up. But happy Juneteenth!

Another nice day.  I finally got youngest ds on a bicycle for the first time in years the other day and we are going for another ride this afternoon. If dh feels up to it we are going to see In The Heights in a movie theatre tonight.

Yello-

Suffocatingly HOT here, IMHO this 95-96 degrees is disgusting, even though it isn't terribly humid (yet). A breeze comes and goes at times, making it slightly more tolerable, but you don't want to be out there for too long. At least we aren't 'really hot' compared to Palm Springs yesterday, which was something outrageous like 115 degrees. It is becoming overcast, and I think our 'tropical rainstorm' is supposed to start tonight and go into the next two days.

Got up at 10 AM and once I had my coffee, then began sauteeing stew-beef for our crockpot. Made gravy after the beef was through, as it adds a nice touch to the stew. Then dumped in baby carrots and baby potatoes and half of a large onion (in three chunks), and a box of beef broth. I had it set on high for 45 minutes and when I went by it, thought I'd give it a stir. Well. I mean WELL! I had set it on high but neglected to plug in the crockpot! Thank goodness I caught it and plugged it in. If I had waited any longer, we'd have to be eating something else tonight!  // When we lived up in the mountains, that's how we found out our oven died. I put in something that was going to take 45 minutes at 350 degrees, and when I went to take out supper because it was suppertime and we were hungry ... I pulled out a cold casserole dish! Disappointing, for sure.

Hubby is, as usual, micro-managing the meal that *I* am preparing. He wants corn, peas and green beans added. Well, I don't mind the peas, but he thinks since they are frozen 'we' should microwave them for a few minutes before adding them to the pot. My gosh, peas will heat up in the already VERY hot crockpot in no time flat. (Yeah, especially since it has been a'burbling along for 3+ hours now!) I just hate putting fresh frozen peas in at the start of cooking because they'll just end up looking and tasting like canned peas, which I am not especially fond of. I'll put the frozen corn in at the same time as the peas, even though...to ME... corn does not belong in beef stew. And the green beans are canned, so they are already cooked. He has asked me 3 times, "When are you going to put the other vegetables in?" I told him I'd add them at 5 PM, since we will eat around six o'clock. He is still wondering if the little potatoes and carrots will have cooked sufficiently.🙄jeesh!    If he had his way, the crockpot would be started in the evening, and cook all night and all day until suppertime ... on HIGH! I keep telling him that if he does that, all he'll have by suppertime is hot mush.

It is about 4:45 PM and he just reminded me that I said I would put the veggies in at 5 PM. Nannie's only concern is, "What time is the ballgame tonight?" I refrained from rolling my eyes, and told her. THEN she asked if it's raining or if it's going to rain where the game is being played. I dunno! We will just have to wait and see. I have no crystal ball, and the game will be played in another state. The rain may come in a few brief waves, and then begin in earnest tonight. That's my opinion. What I think a tropical rain is, is a steady downpour, without a lot of thunder and lightning. But I may be wrong!

No toenail duty today. (Whew!)

Well, it's about time to baptize the vegetables, so I'll leave it here. May come by later, we'll see.

Be well!
