Good Morning!  What a glorious day it is.  I'm so full of blessings and gratitude!

Oppss....sorry guys I was possessed there for a minute by Sabby.  Anyway, I'm working this weekend.  Slept pretty decent with the help of benzo and woke up early and realized the alarm wasn't set so I got up about 15 minutes early.

Had a nice visit with best friend and we decided rather than see saw about our trip in the fall to Europe just to cancel.  Final payment was due in two weeks and with a good chance of him not being ready for all that walking but also a good chance of him being ready to all that walking....we just don't know, it's best to just remove all anxiety and worry about it and cancel for now.

Good news is I have all that money saved up for the trip to use another time and maybe even another place.

Otherwise did three loads of laundry, including sheets which Slowbro decided to vomit on.  He ate well and looks and acts good so it was weird.  I changed his dog food a week ago so maybe it's just not agreeing with him yet, although he gobbles it up like he hasn't eaten for days.

Stars, I saw Nel in the political forums today and hopefully she'll read your note and catch us up here.

amoLucia, glad things are going well with home health.

Dianah, sorry your son has to move so far away.  Good that you can see them there later on.

Ted, good that your so versatile.  Our floor census fluctuates a lot and we have to float a lot too.  But as a frequent charge nurse my turn doesn't come up all that often unless we are totally closed like around Christmas time.

Good morning Tweety and all to follow.

I fell asleep ok but woke up at 0230, tossed and turned, got up at 04.  It is almost 5 now.

One cup of coffee down.  One to go.

I've got the window fans pulling in all the nice cool air.  It has been getting into the 90's here but should cool off in a couple of days into the 80's.

Yesterday was busy.  Got a call from the ER about a patient I visited three days ago for a "meet and greet" regarding hospice.  He didn't meet criteria but then two  days later had an event at home where he couldn't breath.  My manager and I met the wife in the ER and stayed with her until he died.  Not sure what happened but he was septic.  I made sure to privately talk to the ER doc about whether having hospice there was stepping on any ER toes and he said "Absolutely not, we are glad to have you".  After he died, the social worker helped us move him to a private room, where post-mortum care was done while we waited with the wife for the mortuary.  Our cafeteria brought a cart with drinks and snacks.  I love my little rural hospital team.

I got called out for a death about 6:30 p.m.  I'd visited the patient earlier in the day to replace a cassette of dilaudid on the CADD pump.  This man just didn't want to die, he made that clear from the beginning, he hung on way longer than anyone expected him to and after 7 days of no food or water, he finally died last evening.  I did post-mortum care and the family had laid out his favorite clothes.  Pressed Wrangler jeans with a crisp crease, a long-sleeve red cowboy-style shirt, a  red neck kerchief.  They thanked me for helping and I said what I always say and I mean it . . . it is an honor and privilege to be asked into someone's home to care for them as they are at the end of their life.

Tweety - hope your friend heals.  Glad you made the decision to cancel the trip.  Really glad you got your money back.

I'm on call all weekend but it should be quiet.

My goals today . . . clean my house and mow the lawn.

Have a great Saturday.

Morning Tweety and Steph

Well that was an ugly surprise....turns out I wasn't paid this week.  And I wasn't paid during the last pay period, the check I got at that time was my unused PTO from my old employer.  Which I thought was still on its way.  Well, will be talking to HR first thing Monday morning, you can be sure....

Apart from that shock has been a busy morning.  Got up early and did cooking for the day.  Later I'll meet with the environmental group then go to lunch with dad

Yesterday was a long day, work followed by driving out to have pizza with J and his family to welcome his cousin and her daughter from NY who are in town for a few days.  Apparently she and J were very close growing up.  Was nice although I got back quite late

Possibly going to rain today.  Will be quite warm, and warmer the rest of the week too

Morning-

Working my Saturday 3 hour shift.  Have already had 2 no-shows. It's a gorgeous beach day here, so I guess people have better things to do.  I wouldn't be here either if I had a choice, 😂.  Later today we're going to a

Tweety-I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip, but better to go when you know BF will be able to be fully functional.  Will you still take the time of from work?  I hope Slowbro feels better.

Steph-I've always admired hospice nurses.  It's not a job I think I could do.  My father was briefly in hospice before he died, and I wish we had contacted them sooner.  His team made a difficult experience better for all of us.  You and your colleagues are a special breed and do so much good.  I hope you sleep well tonight.

Joe-I can't believe they messed up your pay!  I hope that gets rectified quickly.  Hope you have a good rest of the day.

Hope all are doing well today.  TTYL!

I never imagined I'd be a hospice nurse.  I've mentioned before I didn't like to be around dead bodies and refused to go to my step-father's funeral because he would be laid out in a casket.

I started working what I guess would be called "med-surg" in a small rural hospital but quickly was trained to work ER and L&D.  In order to do that, I had to agree to be a nursing supervisor as well, which they pulled me kicking and screaming into about 2 years after I started.  I hate being a manager/supervisor/boss.  But, I really wanted to work in the ER and L&D.

I started hospice after leaving an ER job I got down in the big city.  Wanted to be here, not there.

Well, I need to head off to the store to get wood floor cleaner and some furniture spray.

Good Morning All,

We got back from camping last night. I took a long hot shower and then crawled into bed. I had a tough time getting to sleep in the tent, and things got cold and damp from the intermittent rain. But still had an enjoyable time. We completed a hike that we have wanted to do for a couple of years. It is call the Skyline Trail, is about 7.5 miles long and an elevation change of 2500 feet. It is supposed to take 4 hours and we did it in 6. It was absolutely beautiful , but exhausting . The pictures I took with my phone don't do it justice. Here are two from the internet. Mount_Rainier_-_Panorama_Point_on_Skyline_Trail_-_September_2017_-_02.jpg.83650992859cb85b203fa7512c66e51a.jpgWe camped among towering forests of hemlock, cedar and pine and an amazing array of wildflowers. Chipmunks, ground squirrels, and Stellar Jays kept an eye on us to see if any bits of food were left behind. A woodpecker was the alarm clock. Bigger wildlife included deer and marmot. And we saw 1 little pika sunning himself on a rocky bank.

Read you all later, have a wonderful day.

Tweety, I had a good giggle when I read the beginning of your post.  😄  😄 Nice to have all that money saved, and just have to choose a destination and plunk it all down!  Any ideas where you want to go?  (ever been out here?  Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree Nat'l Monument, seen the sequoias?  Muir Woods, up above SF?  Been to San Francisco?  Been to Norther Calif -- seen Steph's area?  Shasta Lake and Mt Shasta??  Just sayin' … 😄 )

j22, oooooo now I'm jealous!!  Wanna go camping!  Glad you had a good time!!  (and I understand that photos just don't do the views justice --- but one must try, eh?)  Welcome home!

Ds and DIL and the cats landed in Ohio safely, and we have received texts this morning that the cats seem to be transitioning well to the new digs.  Now, the humans are recovering from being up all night packing, then travelling for many hours!!!  But they are young, they will recover well.  We usually met them for lunch on Saturdays, will miss that...  We wish them well.  Glad they made it safely!  Time to turn the next page of that book.

I took half the day off yesterday, to help get ds and dil to the airport.  Then was SO tired, I slept for a bit.  I went with dh to his evening band practice.  I had been invited before, and decided to go.  They do more complex music than I can play on guitar, but I can sing the third part or can give a voice to some songs they now only do instrumental.  They are preparing to play for an art show in October.  We'll see if we can work up some songs for that.

After we left band practice we stopped to say hi to oldest ds, at work at the bar/grill.  It was busy but not crazy there.  He stayed up the night before, helping his brother pack and load the pods.  Got to sleep around 11am, then woke up to go to work.  Again, he will recover.  🙂  It was nice of him to help.  He turns 30 this week.

I couldn't get to sleep last night, was still awake at 3am.  So I slept in.   We are having a lazy morning.  May meet oldest ds for dinner.  We have not much planned, for this 100-degree weather.  Hoping the hurricane is downgraded and ppl are safe.

Have a good day!

Almost puppy-suppertime, but so far they've not been communicating to me about it, so I'm going to let it slide until they suddenly realize it's T-I-M-E!

Nannie went to bed at 8:30 PM because of the snit she was in, the cause of which we STILL don't know....but ain't a'gonna ask her! She slept until hubby woke her up at noon. In a much better mood today. She just went out to walk....in 94 degrees, wearing a sweater!

Hubby and I went out on some errands, then brought her home a big take-out lunch (late). I got a salad to add stuff to and will have it for my supper.

Getting the sofa cover, lap-robe/afghan and puppy-blanket washed. Then towels plus a few odds and ends will be next. Pippy is shivering, as the AC vent is blowing down on us and she is used to being snugged under her blanket. Such  a delicate little flower. Ozzie is upstairs lying (laying?)down on the floor, looking out the front glass door.

Guess we get to watch the ball game tonight at 8 PM instead of 10 PM.

Laundry is ready to be switched around. Not much going on, otherwise.

Tweety, when I saw your opening line, I thought "What on earth has happened to make him so happy?"  Then when you said you were channeling Sabby, I had to laugh! Wonder how she is doing these days?

There's a few folks who I'd wish would come back to this thread.

Que sera sera.
