Good Morning!

It's 3:51 AM (EST) in this part of the world. It's early. Coffee hasn't even started brewing yet!

I love the quiet of early morning. . .

Had a nice morning, yesterday, spent with my step-mother. We actually did not go car shopping as originally planned, though. Instead, we created a joint savings & checking account (after a failure to do this last week) between step-mother, my step-brother and me. This way, I can easily have some $$$ deposited into this account each week to help pay for a car for my step-mother. (We attempted to do this last week, but I didn't have all of the right documents the proved where I lived. THAT was very frustrating!) After the time spent at the bank, my step-mother and I had nice breakfast together. (My step-brother had to go to work.) It was a good visit together. Of course we talked about the type of car she'd like to purchase. But we also talked about other things, to. This step-mother is actually my father's second wife. They divorced a long time ago. But I spent my later teenage years growing up with our combined family. Those were tough years which involved ETOH (on her part). She's been in recovery for decades, now, and amends have been made long ago. Still, we talk about that time in our lives. We also talk about the present joys and sorrows that we experience. We've remained close, which is a gift all by itself. After our long breakfast together, it was nearly 1:00 PM and I had other chores to do. So, we went on our separate but merry ways.

My "merry way" was renewing my driver's license, which I've been avoiding doing for a while. What a chore! There were only just a few of us at the DMV. My goal was to renew my drivers license and upgrade it to "Enhanced". (An "Enhanced" drivers license enables easier travels within the U.S. of A., and to Canada and Mexico. This "Enhanced" drivers license is total crap. But that's a discussion to be made on another forum! UGH!) Anyway, the process of renewing and upgrading was a sloooooooow one! I was prepared with all of the proper documentation. It's just that the DMV officials were very meticulous in ensuring that all of the documents were appropriate, that all of the "T's" were crossed and "I's" were dotted. The DMV officials did this for everyone. It's their job, I guess. But it was so sloooow! I was there for nearly 2 hours. Again, it wasn't crowded at all. Not like other DMV offices. It was almost closing time when all was finished! (Gotta vent: As nurses we hold the lives of human-beings in our hands, and need to be careful in doing so, and we're STILL faster than what I experience at the DMV yesterday! Ugh! End of rant.) There was one positive outcome from this whole DMV experience: I demonstrated that I can see distances without corrective lenses! 😄 (As for reading?!?!? That's a much different matter!)

Finally got home after an hour's drive. Fed the dog, who was patiently waiting for me, then took a nap. Amy got home later yesterday evening and we relaxed together for the rest of the night.

I'm working the next three nights. I just got a text from one of my fellow ICU nurses. He said that the mother of the full-time Shift Director passed away. This is very sad news. Apparently the plan is for me to be the Shift Director tonight while she tends to the needs of her family. Of course I will! What a sad situation, though, for that person. Besides experiencing the loss of her mother, she has her own significant health issues to deal with. It's just sad to see.

Hope all are doing well. Hope all are peacefully slumbering away now!

Gonna try to catch a few more ZZZZZs myself. Peace!

Ted

Just a quick good morning as I overslept. I did a weird thing around 3:45 AM. I woke up and thought I didn't set my alarm, so I actually turned it off.  Then I over slept.  Will still make it to work on time. Opps....

Day 4 of 5 in a row.  Going pretty rough but one day at a time.

Hope everyone has a great day!  I read through the thread but can't respond as I'm late.

woo hoo

Oh dear, Tweety! It's Saturday, not Sunday this February 9th! 😄 I hope your 4th out of 5 workdays is kind to you! Hope you have a small string of days OFF from work once this stretch of 5 days in a row is finished! You deserve and NEED the rest! 😄 😉

Moderators? Can someone combine our two threads, please? Thank you! 🙂

Yes, Tweety, Ted is right. You will need and deserve a nice rest, when shift five is over.

Just couldn't do it.

Kudos to you.

One of my patients brought in roaches.

A new admit that outside hospital warned about roaches.

OT asked if I knew what bed bugs look like. I said yes, but identified insect as a roach, not bed bug.

This patient was also highly confused last night, and at one point, was removing his hospital gown because he "had to leave."

I was afraid he would rip out PICC line. I got him calmed down and back into a gown.

Overall, night a bad night.

Going to sleep.

Hope all are enjoying the day.

Tweety hope your remaining shifts go well

Morning Ted and Nell

Pretty good day yesterday at work, someone actually returned one of my calls.  Not sure what kind of future I have there but I'm going to wait at least until the spring and definitely until the fall before looking for something new

Had dinner with J.  Was a very cold night, thankfully the cold weather is past for now

Got up and did the cooking.  Have to run an errand before our environmental group meets, then lunch with dad

A church member who was in hospice died recently, he'd been fighting cancer for years.  He was one of the first people I met when I joined this church

Good morning from NOT SNOWPOCALYPSE 2019 . . .yet.

Friends from Portland have put up photos of grocery store shelves being wiped out due to panic about the snow we are supposed to get.  My weather app say 90% chance of snow all day and it is sunny with some high clouds.  Crazy.

Today we will go to the dump.  And if the weather holds, I'm going to trim that tree out front.

It is my grandson's 3rd birthday today.  We aren't able to travel there but I'm hoping to get up there in the next couple of weeks.

Spidey is still asleep.  His basketball game was 2 hours north of us and I stayed home due to exhaustion from only 4 hours of sleep.  How did I do that when I first started in nursing?  Head into work at 0245 with only a couple of hours sleep and work 12 hours?  Oh . . . right . . . I was 20 years younger.

Hope you all have a great Saturday.   And Tweety does need some sleep!

Happy Saturday, everyone,

Ted, I'm glad you got the chore of getting your new license done. How did your son like his birthday party? did he have one? My daughters both sometimes have their children' parties at either an earlier date or a later date if everyone is too busy on the actual date. We  live in such a busy world anymore.

Tweety, You had a good reason to sleep late. congratulations!

Lil Nel, I don't like auto correct either. Does it provided the wrong word very much for you? It does for me.

Hi to everyone else who arrives later.

Yes, Fran. Auto correct nearly always chooses the WRONG word. Very annoying.

Sorry about the church member, passing, Joe.

Do you have a quota attached to your job?

Hello People!

This morning Nannie told hubby that I needed to stop dying my hair, because I have left "black marks" from the hair dye on the sofa where I rest my head. 🤨

"Um, Nannie, she doesn't dye her hair."

"Why she sure does!"

"No, Nannie, if she dyed her hair she wouldn't have all those white hairs."

"Well...." (not conceding)

It's the same on hubby's side of the sofa, but he doesn't dye his hair. It used to be a deep copper-penny-red, now fading out to gray and brown. But she can't see his 'marks' from where she sits.

The material is a light-brown or tan color.

Must be scalp oils and sweat. I only wash my hair twice a week, and am well-known as a continuing hot-flasher, despite the YEARS gone by since I ended all the rest of that kind of thing. So I don't deny those are my 'marks' , which are actually a diffuse area of a faint smudge-ish spot. Guess I'll either wear some funky bonnet, or place a towel behind my head when I sit there. Then of course, one side of Nannie's mouth will declare, Southern-Lady style, "Well Honey, You don't have to worry about that old sofa." YUH, okay.

Gotta go to the Phramacy (not PHARM, but PHRAM!) to pick up 3 refills.

Be back later on...

Great evening of music last night. I saw people I know and we all enjoyed ourselves.  This is Clinton Davis, whose jug band played with Jim Kweskin:

Jim in the hallway at McCabe's guitar shop, where we were last evening, explaining how he "uncovers" old songs:

The musicians in the Clinton Davis Jug Band play really well. They swing. But I've heard many other jug bands over the years and what makes it GREAT is a showman too. The Kweskin band had several showmen (Mel Lyman, Geoff Muldaur, Fritz Richmond), and one great woman, Maria Muldaur.
