This lady may not mean much to Americans but she was a national treasure in the UK and a much loved actress.

She was famous for her portrayal of a sexy nurse in "Carry on Doctor" and "Carry on Matron." Films which were very much of their time.

I remember her from the Carry On films, especially her voice. I perused and few clips, and her serious roles showed her wide range.

The "Carry On" films were a series of 31 films that ran from 1958 - 1978 and one in 1992. Very much of their time they were sexist, slightly racist and very politically incorrect. They were also very, very funny.

Very British humour so probably did not travel well so unlikely you would have seen any of them herring. If you do come across them at any time they are well worth a watch. Every one of them was titled "Carry On..." except for 2. They were "Don't Lose Your Head" which was about the French revolution and loosely based on The Scarlet Pimpernel. The other was "Follow That Camel" based on Beau Geste and starring America's own Phil Silvers.
