Cloris Leachman died yesterday at age 94, of natural causes at her home. A versatile actress, she is prob best remembered being the TV series friend of Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda. And in the office show with Lou Grant. She performed in multiple movies - the ones by Mel Brooks were hilarious. And she did win an Oscar for an early career movie role. Now I don't remember this, but I read where she was the first TV mom to Timmy in the orig TV 'Lassie' show. She was a healthy lifestyle advocate, also. Must have been effective to live to age 94. May she RIP.

Jan 29, 2021 by No Stars In My Eyes, LPN Yeah, Cloris Leachman was a good actress, and on the late night shows she was a real rip-snorter, funny as can be. I know there was another mother for Timmy, early on, in Lassie, Now I have to look up who was the 'mother' before what's-her-name (June Lockheart?) took up the role. I remember a sort of plain, brunette woman and it wasn't Cloris.

Jan 30, 2021 by amoLucia If I recall correctly, June Lockhart was one of Bob Cratchet's little daughters in the 1950ish version of 'Christmas Carol'.

My goodness gracious! THAT'S NOT "spilling the beans"!!!! Ima go look it up right now! But I guess I am thinking of the mother who was NOT Timmy's mother, but was JEFF's mother! " Jeff was Lassie's owner before Timmy was cast.

Jan 31, 2021 by No Stars In My Eyes, LPN And even though this is ostensibly Cloris Leachman's obituary thread, I will tell you young'n's all this with regards to the LASSIE show: When the show started, Tommy Rettig played Jeff, Jan Clayton was his widowed mother, and there was Gramps, her dad, too. (George Cleveland, then later, another actor). Tommy Rettig left the show when he was 15 because he was getting too old for the part. I think his family was to "move to the city". The Timmy character (Jon Provost) was brought in as a foster child before the farm was sold. Then the Millers (young couple) bought Lassie's farm, they also adopted Timmy, and Jeff gave Lassie to Timmy. I'm not sure about who played Mr. Miller or the new Gramps. I never saw the "Transition Show", though. Was June Lockheart also made a widow on this new version of the show? I dunno. I vaguely remember a husband being present at the beginning of the 'new' Lassie show. _________________________________ Rest in peace, Cloris Leachman.

Good review, @No Stars In My Eyes It was Ruth and Paul Martin who adopted Timmy. June Lockhart (mother) played opposite Hugh Reilly (daddy). I quit watching the show before it ended so I don't remember if Mr. Martin (Reilly) left her a widow or not. I vaguely remember when he died in real life.
