Captain Sir Tom Moore, 100 yo, 1920 - 2021 The Army veteran won the nation's affections by walking 100 laps of his garden last spring during the first coronavirus lockdown, raising money for NHS Charities Together. He had initially set out to raise £1,000, but he eventually raised £32,794,701 - which totalled £39m with Gift Aid - from more than 1.5 million supporters, and was knighted by the Queen in July. Capt Sir Tom tested positive for Covid-19 last week. His family said due to other medication he was receiving for pneumonia, he was unable to be vaccinated. People have been taking part in a national clap to honour Captain Sir Tom Moore. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-55923671
Feb 3, 2021 by amoLucia Am not familiar with the gentleman. But definitely sounded like a worthwhile charitable endeavor. Another sad victim of covid which knows NO limits. May he RIP.

Feb 4, 2021 by GrumpyRN There has been a real outpouring of affection for Captain Tom. I forgot to mention that he even managed to top the music charts last year getting a number 1 with, surprise, surprise, "You'll Never Walk Alone" the old song by Gerry and the Pacemakers from 1963. There is talk of trying to get him a state funeral and also erecting a monument to him on the 4th plinth of Trafalgar Square in London.
Feb 4, 2021 by No Stars In My Eyes, LPN I've read about him, saw some TV video clips, back when he first started walking his garden, pretty neat idea, and seemed well within reach by the way he was going. Sorry about the wretched COVID. Makes you wonder how long he might have lived had it not been for the Covid-exposure.
