What are your thoughts regarding reporting undocumented individuals to ICE? Do you agree with reporting a person convicted of a violent crime? For shoplifting? For working with a phony Social Security number?

Or do you want all undocumented people deported? Or no one deported?

The  Statue of Liberty poem, New Colossus

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” These words are mounted on a plaque on the Statue of Liberty. The only inscription can be found on the tablet in her left hand, which states JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776), the day the United States adopted the Declaration of Independence." That is the creed of America. When people are sent back by ICE sometimes, they become targets by their government. These people could be tortured or killed.  Since they left their country and embarrassed their government. If someone does a  VIOLENT CRIME, they should be sent back. If someone is shoplifting, why are they shoplifting are they hungry, do suffer from a mental health illness. The majority of people do not just steal (maybe I am naive ). What resources are available to these immigrants? Working with phony social security is illegal. It should not take that long to hear an immigration case why are they waiting months to years to be heard. How can  America contribute to, and help the country that these people are leaving and not let China take over becoming a superpower?

Fair point, I stand corrected.

To repeat Herring, do you disagree with reporting people here illegally who have also committed other crimes?

I asked the question so think it fair to answer my own question. I think people convicted of violent crimes, and of other serious felonies should be deported first.

What are the crimes? Are they defending someone from being robbed and they get arrested as well? Do they not have an ID and get arrested? For me, there are shades of grey.  If someone does a  VIOLENT CRIME, they should be sent back. Agreed, as far as using resources to locate them.  I think that’s obvious and most would agree.

But if they come across less serious violators, they should process those too and not release them.

Defending someone from being robbed is NOT "convicted of a violent crime or serious felony".

Arrested for not having an ID is NOT "convicted of a violent crime or serious felony.

Working with a fake ID is NOT a "convicted of a violent crime or serious felony".To repeat MunoRN:  Do you disagree with reporting people here illegally who have also been convicted of a violent crime or serious felony?

Examples of Felonies that are “violent,” “serious,” or both in California are  murder, voluntary manslaughter, rape, a felony in which the defendant personally causes great bodily injury, kidnapping, home invasion robbery, carjacking, selling drugs such as heroin and cocaine to a minor, and any felony punishable by death or life imprisonment.
