I hear the Flat Earth Society is accepting new members.

    The President Donald Trump Thread

Up until last week I had a decent amount of respect for John Kelly. Now, not so much. He is simply showing himself to be the glue holding the Trump White House together and not in a positive manner, but enforcing lies to keep Trump in power. Which let's face it, is the job of the chief of staff and he's doing it well. Doesn't mean I have to respect him as a human any longer. Down some notches on that score. At 9 months and we still aren't any closer to having articles of impeachment upheld. We are no closer to having America's day in court are we? Robert Mueller's team is still working fervently, I get that, but I have to wonder if they had anything of substance that would hold up in court why they wouldn't have trotted it out by now. I was holding onto the idea that they were simply gathering so much fodder for the cannon that would take out the Trump Administration that it would be a slam dunk. Now I'm not so sure. I wholeheartedly believe that is the worst thing to have hit America probably ever. I think he is incompetent and disgraceful. He is an embarrassment to every thinking, feeling, intelligent American in our country. But that doesn't mean that he can be removed legally for being a moron. This Cabinet will never use Article 25 to get rid of him. Not a chance. The only way to remove him, through impeachment, would be to show something that would make the Senate vote to convict. And if they had enough, I don't think we would still be talking about it. Why there isn't enough? Certainly I don't know, none of us do, but it's disheartening to say the least that everyday that goes by is another day that we have a pretender to the throne. Dark days indeed.

Trump condemns violence erupting at white nationalist protest

Oh, I hear you (see my comment to elkpark). I personally don't believe that a black co-worker in my facility, one who is in a decidedly Blue Collar, low wage earning job, who has minimal education, knew he was getting a racist for a president. This coworker spoke of how Trump was a "regular guy who is going to shake things up with those suits". He heard that Hillary Clinton was messed up in some "cover ups with emails", doesn't mean he really knows what happened just that he heard that she was of bad character, and flipped his vote the other way. Was he wrong? Absolutely. Was the information he heard about Hillary Clinton wrong? Absolutely. His mistake was believing the wrong propaganda in an ugly campaign. I will not condemn him as "getting what he deserves" simply because he was ignorant and uneducated in his voting choice. He knows now it was a mistake. He did not know it then. It is what it is.

Not much, I'm afraid. What has always seemed so incredibly obvious to me, that this man was wholly unprepared and completely ill-suited for the office of president, somehow has not been so obvious to those who have supported him. Didn't say I agree with it, don't say I get it, just think that I can explain it is all.

LOL I imagine even his supporters believed he had a certain level of schmuckness! :-) Yes, definitely a schmuck. But one with a message that managed to get through to enough people to make a difference to them. I found this article and thought it was interesting that at least one articulate and apparently intelligent former Trump supporter is now at least a FORMER supporter! I Voted for Trump. And I Sorely Regret It. - The New York Times

Yes he really did use an urban myth (AGAIN) to support the killing of Muslims as a deterrent to terrorism (which his own secretary of defense has had to talk him out of using because it doesn't actually work). True colors showing.

I'm not talking about giving free passes to everyone who voted for trump. I'm saying that while you (and I and others) became aware of the racist hx not everyone who bought his general message did. You can insist that they MUST HAVE, but I quite sure you are incorrect. People really do, in am outrageous amount of the time, only experience news as sound bites. They bore easily (low intelligence? Low interest?) And don't care to know more than what they think they need to know. For some, their version of an informed decision was simply that they trusted HRC less. He ran a smart campaign not matter how much we don't like the fact that he did. It was dirty, but smart. And for a third of this country that was enough for them. Doesn't make them racists, just ill-informed, uneducated voters. :-(

Characterizing all those who voted for trump as racists is a bit much. NO, people did not have to agree with him on "some level" (or any level) when it came to that particular character flaw, as there were simply too many who were incredibly ignorant about that man's history in the first place. To many of the willfully ignorant, he showed up with a message they wanted to hear about jobs, economy, and making changes in Washington. They thought that the businessman who is not a politician would be there to "shake things up, change things up". While I most obviously disagree with that thought process entirely, I cannot condemn all of his original supporters as racists. I know for a fact a number of people who had supported him who are absolutely, unequivocally not racist. They were simply people who felt that a change was needed, and this asshat was somehow going to be the answer to that. There are also those who felt that Hillary Clinton was such a horrible proposition for the White House that they were willing to vote for anybody else and that meant Trump. Does that make them racist because they hated Hillary Clinton more than Trump? No. I think it makes them foolish for their choice but that is a different problem. Now, going forward it would be hard for a trump supporter to claim they know nothing about his Alt Right associations. Now that it is the news that it is, continued support would indicate to me support of his views as well. It does make me wonder how those members of his party, his base, who are decidedly "not acceptable" to the alt right becaise of their color or religion reconcile their status now?

Have just reread the last couple of things I posted, guess I should proofread better! Used a word that makes no sense when I was going for "decorum",LOL!. And forgot to mention along with my comment to Margin about the roughly quarter of the country that will never change their stance that the boost to hate, indifference, self righteousness is evident here in great measure. Yes, you are absolutely right that for those who need a platform of "ME FIRST!!" (the rest of the world be damned), they now have their guy. Instead of rising above, this country is now sinking below. Disgraceful.

Trump's new immigration policy-would you qualify?

I just checked my eligibility numbers against the requirements. Sadly, I do not possess a Nobel Prize nor have I won an Olympic medal. My higher education and great job wpuld still not allow me to immigrate to the United States at this time. I would say it is very fortunate I was born here, LOL, but recent news has made me question that privilege. What a time we live in, when the contributions and achievements of immigrants to this nation are now reduced to minimal "points" and an ineligible status. Indeed my entire family would never have been able to make the trip across the Atlantic and that, I can assure you without question, would have been a loss to this country. Such a shame our president sees no value in a solid work ethic and dedicated commitment to labor and improving one's self and ones family's station in life. Guess that's what comes from his being raised with privilege and zero work ethic.

Margin, you made a very good point. I hadn't considered the number of people who will, no matter what, continue to support a losing proposition. I think back to Nixon, the day he was giving his resignation speech live on the air, resigning and disgrace and shame, he had a 24% approval rating! That's right, about a quarter of this country was still so utterly clueless that they continue to support a man destined to spend time behind bars if he had not resigned in shame. What does that say about us as Americans?? It is sad and embarrassing. Had we learned something from that experience it would have been one thing, but the fact that we are at about a third of this country still in support of the next Criminal in Chief is equally embarrassing. America has taken on the look of a banana republic. The very type of corrupt government set up that the Trump supporters will so vehemently decry. Ironic, no?
  13. Yup. Although a little unfair to used car salesmen!

People who have no capacity to understand may be called stupid. People who have capacity to understand but have not been educated on a topic may be considered ignorant on that topic. What I have trouble with are those people who, once educated on the topic of Trump's lies and disregard for both fthe law and decoum continue to believe he's the best thing since sliced bread. I cannot believe they are all stupid, some of them MUST be intelligent. I can't say they are ignorant, certainly they have the same ability that I do to read news reports, read the rather unhinged and disgraceful undignified Twitter posts, and watch video of public events. So what are we left with? Willful ignorance? People who are so enamored of their own need to be right that in spite of all evidence to the contrary, they must insist that Trump is on the right path, and a good thing for America? Certainly they see what is happening, but they must be so blinded by the need to be correct that they refuse, absolutely refuse to see the truth in front of them. I'm not talking about a difference in political choices. I'm not talking about a disagreement in method. I'm talking about the absolute refusal of the Trump supporters to see what the hell is going on right in front of their faces. I just cannot understand this!
  15. They've had eight years to do something better and they have not been able to. Throwing out the ACA only means that those who weren't covered will still not be covered and about 24 million people who were covered will now lose coverage. Premiums will go up, benefits will decrease, this isn't opinion it is noted to be the truth. This seems like a good idea somehow?
