    Release the Memo

Atty V was in NY to represent a client in court (there was controversy at one time why she was allowed in the country-to the best of my recollection it was a provisional visa for this reason) Fusion GPS was somehow involved in that court case. Right now, all I remember about the case is that Atty V's client was supposed to pay many millions & got off by paying a fraction of it in a deal approved by our Sessions led DOJ. So yes, she did meet with Fusion GPS in relation to her court case that was going on at the same time as meeting with Jr, Manafort, Kushner, & assorted Russians. Now do we know she didn't discuss anything with Fusion? Not for certain but there really wouldn't have been a benefit for her or them. As for Nunes memo. Yes, he has credibility issues. He got information about an investigation by being a part of the HPSCI- and ran to tell the subject of that investigation. Kosher? Nope. Due to that, he recused himself from that investigation- but retained chairman duties, & subpoena power-and power to deny subpoenas. Kosher? Nope. Supposedly this memo deals with FISA warrant reapplication on Carter Page- who has been under investigation since 2013 for his Russia dealings. He & others, were picked up on, I think it's called 'incidental recordings'- where our IC is recording people from FOREIGN countries they are concerned about & oops, those nefarious dudes are recorded talking to Americans. Our guys weren't spying on our people-they were trying to keep us safe from Russian bad guys! Once they hear Carter Page setting up deals w/ bad guys, they get warrants for him. Make sense? Well, apparently it takes a lot to get a FISA warrant on an American (as well it should). The Nunes memo doesn't contain all the info provided to the court-because only a judge can approve a FISA warrant- he just picked out what helped make his point that the FBI is abusing their power. If it's a true abuse- release the ENTIRE FISA application, right? I think that must be what is in Dem memo or more of info provided to court. Ok, that's your FISA lesson for the day, I have to finish charting now

    Release the Memo

I'm not sure where you got your information about the meeting between trump jr & the Russians- but your description is one I've never seen before. As for the Steele dossier, it started out as opposition research that all politicians do on each other. It was initiated by a republican opponent, then they were paid by the 'Free Beacon' (I believe that's the name, a conservative publication. After they stopped financing, I think money came from DNC. At any rate- it did not begin as a search for Russian collusion. They found connections between trump & Russian mafia here in US & followed the trail back to Russia. Steele was hired for the contacts he had developed in Russia as a MI6 agent who's area was Russia. When they contacted the FBI, they'd already started an investigation into trump's campaign d/t someone on the inside having reported issues already. That person hasn't been named. And it possibly could be Papadopolous who bragged to Australian intelligence officer-unknowingly-who reported to FBI. As you'll recall Papadopolous has already been indicted for lying to FBI, as has Flynn and those are campaign related. I read the Fusion transcripts. Interesting & enlightening. I'll try to find a link if you want to read. And I've not heard anywhere that Fusion had anything to do with trump jr's meeting with Russian lawyer. Jr released his emails that show very clearly that Rob Goldstone set that meeting up at the request of the lawyer

    Release the Memo

This is in no way a response or comment on your post- I just thought you might appreciate this more than some of the others (that is, if I can manage to post a link! I'm not great at this...) http://www.msnbc.com/sites/msnbc/files/doj_letter_to_nunes_180124.pdf It's a letter to Nunes from Stephen Boyd, Asst AG (trump appointee) advising the have HPSCI classified info with their promise it remain so. Only a limited number of people were to read it- I read somewhere that Nunes didn't even read it. He points out that releasing memo without DOJ & FBI being given a chance to address the problems Nunes states are there is a breach of promise they made & may reveal sources & methods. He offers alternative of going to inspector general with issues. And about a vote of whole committee. Some that have read memo say it is theories & conjecture on Nunes' part with no facts to back it up. Smoke & mirrors.

Did anyone see or read Jeff Flake's speech to Congress when he announced he wasn't seeking re-election? It was pretty magnificent! He addresses a few things to Mr President but I'm not aware if the orange atrocity was actually in the room- I'm betting not. If you haven't seen/read it, you may want to- there's sure to be a 0300 rage filled tweetstorm about it! But seriously, he does scold his fellow senators for accepting trump's ridiculous behavior & not calling him out on it and accepts his part of the blame too. Hopefully it will inspire more of them. We'll see. Also saw where trump is planning to auction parts of the Gulf of Mexico to oil companies. That doesn't even sound as if it would be legal? This whole presidency is exhausting! Everyday there is a new assault on our democracy, a new crime or nefarious act uncovered, a war of tweets started/ongoing, an old issue resurrected, and that's just the president! His cabinet & administration is their own 3 ring circus of dysfunction & malfeasance! I do think Mueller or NYAG will eventually get him on, probably, financial crimes. But there may be a possibility they will go for impeachment before then. I think that's part of Corker, Flake & McCain's plan-although I could be mistaken. I just wish it would all happen faster than it's happening!!
  5. Before this election, I didn't give much thought to the ideology of republicans, democrats or much thought to politics in general. When I heard trump was running, I thought it was a joke- another stunt of his. After the primaries, it got more serious but I never really thought he would actually win. If there is any good that came from this- I am more educated about politics, policies, laws, legislation, etc. I am more involved & will never miss voting in any election again. I'm hoping it affected many people that way. Conservatives today. Roy Moore in AL-wants to make homosexuality illegal, didn't know what DACA was, had a gun on stage at a rally, Rohrabacher. JFC. A Russian stooge. There have been several GOP recently that have come out with straight up conspiracy theories that you would see on Infowars. And trump. That covers crazy. Then there are your everday republicans- Ryan, McConnell, Cassidy, Graham- that are greedy & cruel. Trying to take healthcare from millions, cut m'care/caid to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy so the Koch brothers will give them the $400mil as promised in exchange. Since very few stepped up to oppose (some did though!) I hold the majority of them in very low esteem. If that's being conservative- count me out. My heart & conscience wouldn't let me do that & sleep at night.

Trump is on twitter boasting that Dems insurance companies stocks plummeted. Right after signing the EO, he said Obamacare was about to fail & Dems should come to him to fix it. Somehow in his mind I think he believes this personally injures Democrats & Obama, not middle/lower class Americans. I think Dems should sit back for a while & let him own this disaster for a while. Let all his rabid supporters be unable to pay for HC & find out why. Maybe it will let a trickle of truth start in their minds & hopefully turn into a river, that their Dear Leader does not have their best interest in mind & never did. Then when they realize the tax cuts actually cause them to pay in more, maybe- just maybe- when mid term elections come, people will feel compelled to vote and vote republicans OUT. I saw an article today that said "Mnuchin refites trump & says repealing estate tax disproportionately helps rich people". Really. Estate tax doesn't kick in until estate is $5.5 mil. I know trump lies, but he may also think most Americans leave estates that size. I've also seen printed that he thinks middle/low income is around $200k. He is the most uninformed, ignorant person-generally- but certainly to occupy the WH. He makes GWB look like an astrophysicist. And he needs to go!

My take on the NFL tirade: Like most everything that doesn't directly affect him- he doesn't care about standing for the anthem. He was at a rally, in the south, in a room full of good ol' boys that love football & the flag. (I'm from La-so don't get offended!) So he does his regular routine because trump is addicted to cheers & applause, but he starts on the NFL thing because he knows it'll play big with this audience & it does. I think the crowd went crazy & he just kept ramping up his rhetoric til he'd called a bunch of black men exercising their constitutional rights "SOBs". I don't think stuff t like that is planned or that he's even thinking about what he's saying- he's like an alcoholic w/ a bottle of whiskey, as long as they're yelling his name, he's spouting out hateful sh*t. And then afterwards, when his people are like "wtf did you do?"- he's certainly not going to back down or apologize! His only choice is to go all out moron. He doesn't seem to ever consider long term effects of anything or consequences. He may do some of this crazy stuff to change the public narrative, and it does-for a while-til his next crazy stunt. But nothing he does changes or stops Muellers investigation. Surely he knows that in his little pea brain? I realize he's never had consequences from any of his shady dealings, so I don't know if he's so scared he's spinning out of control or if he genuinely thinks he can somehow subvert the course of justice with shenanigans. Ok, just mainly wanted to put in my 2¢ on why I thought his NFL rant wasn't an issue he cares about. Everybody take care-these are some frustrating times!!

    First Amendment

Herring- I read that the Berkley protest wasn't so much cancelled as it was never really organized as advertised. Someone interviewed the guy at Berkley who is in charge of events & he said they never confirmed-or contacted- most of the speakers. And getting them to pay took forever. But the whole time they complained of being persecuted by the left & said they were trying to shut them down. Which was probably the whole plan to begin with! As for the first amendment- have y'all seen where Roy Moore- the repub senate candidate from AL- said it only applies to christians? That's his latest proclamation. He's also said he believes homosexuality should be illegal & believes in conversion therapy. And he won the primary. We really don't need another religious zealot in congress. He's worse than Pence!! Ok, I could type a book on trump's craziness in the past week- but y'all already know. So I'll stop ranting here, lol!

TMB- I will search for that because I've not seen anything (ever) where trump had remorse about anything! Have y'all seen his comments- I think they may be from his 2nd trip to TX- about It's a beautiful thing & telling them to have a good time as he was leaving? And he autographed a wall. Oh, and told a a guy who just lost his house & everything he owned he was goin to be famous because he was on TV with trump. I don't think any of this was malicious, I do think trump has no ability to empathize with others & therefore has difficulty coming up with appropriate things to say on his own. He made a statement about the CG rescuing 11,000 people, going into strong winds that the media wasn't willing to go into (unless it was for a good story) So he can't even make a definitive statement of congratulations or thanks to the CG without taking a swipe at the media in a completely idiotic way. He is completely narcissistic. Outside of Harvey news- Mueller has a letter that trump wrote with s miller's help that stated the reasons he was going to fire Comey. It was read to a room full of people including the VP. The WH lawyer wouldn't let him send it/use it to fire Comey as it would be 'problematic'. So he ended up using Acting AG Rosenstein's letter. But then went on TV and contradicted that theory anyway. But the current thing at issue is that since VP Pence was present & heard the trump/miller letter with all the reasons he wanted Comey fired then went on TV and lied saying 'he was 100% sure trump fired Comey for the reasons in Rosenstein's letter', it makes him party to obstruction. Whew. That's a lot of typing! If I hear of anything new & exciting, I'll update & know y'all will do the same. Now off to google 'trump remorse'...

Heron- Oh, I know the vast majority here wouldn't argue about trump's rationality. I guess I spend too much time on twitter where there are folks that think he was sent to us from God. (Blasphemous isn't it) Those are the most aggravating people. They would argue that the sun isn't shining at high noon if their orange emperor told them so. I just don't engage. But reading their posts is very disheartening- it will make you feel hopeless for the future of the country if you read too much of it!! PS I just read Sheriff Joe is considering a senate run!! Yay!
  11. margin261

    The President Donald Trump Thread

Heron- I think trying to read his mind is an exercise in futility. Way back, early in his campaign, when he kept doing/saying things that were not helpful to him, some of his supporters started with the theory that he is a master strategist & he had a long range plan that no mere mortal could possibly understand and all of this seemingly damaging stuff would end up being brilliant. Right. This pardon for sheriff joe, have y'all read that he asked sessions months prior- before the conviction, I believe, to intervene & get the case dropped? See a pattern here? I'd heard of this guy, but did not know many of the horrors he'd perpetrated. Many of them proven. The city has had to pay out around 43 million in civil suits against him & his dept. So my question would be, did trump know about all the atrocities joe did? trump isn't known for doing research into a subject, listening to advisors, etc. Or is it just that he knows joe is a supporter & he has the power to help so he did, no matter how it looks to the world. Just like he said when asked about putin when asked (early on) "he says nice things about me, I'm going to say nice things about him". I personally think people attributing to trump the ability, or desire, to think far enough ahead for this pardon to be a message to russian co conspirators is folly. He doesn't have the capacity to think ahead more than a few minutes. He is an instant gratification kinda guy. He'll read a speech off a teleprompter about unity the tweet the most hateful, divisive rhetoric an hour later & never get the hypocrisy. He tweeted the other day that he can't get bills passed because of dem obstruction & 20 min later was boasting about getting more bills passed by this point than any other president. He's not trying to send a message about anything down the road, he doesn't have a master plan or strategy. He doesn't want unity because he thrives on chaos. In interviews he talks about going after people who 'do him wrong'- that he 'hits back 10x harder'. That's what he revels in, what he enjoys most. Even when it's not in his best interest. He's not a rational human being.

    ANTIFA

Az- I read the article & followed one of the links and read carefully to make sure I didn't miss anything. I did watch a video a reporter made behind the scenes with an Antifa group that does believe violence works. Their rationale is that the only thing violent 'facists' (neo nazis, white supremacists, alt right) understand is violence. To me, that makes them just as bad as those they're fighting- no matter their cause. And it's wrong. However- I think the issue is the alt right is labeling anyone that doesn't agree with them 'antifa' and claiming they are the problem & it's not accurate. That is what trump did in his 1st statement re Charlottesville & why it was so offensive. It's also given the alt right/nazis/etc & their defenders their narrative. Yesterday on twitter 3 people- 2 random folks & tomi lahren- tweeted pictures they claimed were of antifa from Boston rally and saying how much worse they are than alt right. Tomi's was of a person holding a sign about killing cops & she said something defending trump- see why he said left is as bad, like that. But all 3 pictures were shown to be taken from other places. 1 from a Dover protest, 1 from Occupy Wall Street & Tomi's from the Baltimore riots. When the alt right/nazis are organizing a rally, they share info on what weapons are best. There's one on twitter today someone screenshotted from Gab (I don't even know what that is but have read that's a gathering place for them now) about an upcoming event in FL. They're talking about buying guns at a gun show, having concealed carry permits, etc. They talk about using push pins to put American flags on a good sized stick so it's easy to remove flag without damaging it & using the stick to fight. That's what I read the Antifa article closely for. Any indication/intimation of physical violence. I didn't see any. You probably won't agree with me, but I feel that trump being elected has emboldened many of these people. And when bannon, miller & gorka were given high level positions in the WH, it was a subtle nod to these groups that their beliefs were, if not shared, by a sitting president then certainly more than tolerated. And they've taken their cue & run with it.
  13. So, trump had a chance to be presidential & a decent human being and- surprise! He couldn't quite pull it off. He pretty much blamed violence on "all sides" then offered "best regards" to families of those injured & killed. That's not bad- just awkward phrasing- IMO. The WH tried to bat clean up- a few times. 1st, saying he condemns all violence, then later, a statement & a DHS guy said of course he meant he condemned hatred & bigotry. But, he never said that. Ivanka chimed in today with her condemnation of hatred & a call for the country to unite. But that was after her Daddy released his newest campaign ad attacking all his enemies. trump is one of the most divisive leaders ever. Bannon, Miller & Gorka are alt right/white supremacists right in the WH advising him-ironically enough, right next to kushner who is Jewish! Insanity. Not that I think it will change anything, but I hope trump sees david duke's comments about the rally fulfilling trump's promises & the daily stormer article about trump NOT condemning white supremacists as domestic terrorists. They took his speech as approval. And finally, I want him to see that headline about that beautiful girl they killed & what those subhumans said about her. And I hope somewhere in his tiny brain he gets that he spawned this. For no other readon than to win an election for a job he didn't even want. And that he is failing miserably at.

Pickles- I've given much thought- way more than is healthy, I'm sure- to why people still support trump. I spend a good bit of time on twitter & see polls about approval rates but usually don't put much value on them, for various reasons. But it seems there is going to be about a quarter of the population that's going to stick, no matter what. I think for some, they can't admit they were wrong & are still defending him. I think they may come around eventually. For others, it's a combination of ignorance & laziness. Those are frustrating- those are the ones that watch only fox or infowars and can't stand to hear anything negative & answer question with 'but Obama' or 'but Hilary'. Those are the conspiracy theorists & probably will never change. But I think I've identified another subset- those that don't particularly care about trump's policies, agenda or even trump all that much. These people like that a guy that spouted such hateful, racist rhetoric was elected president. That even though he was exposed as a misogynistic assaulter of women- people voted for him. These are people who have behaved badly in public since the campaign & election because the feel that his election validates & vindicates their behavior. Those are the ones that disgust me the most. They were around before trump- and will be there afterwards. But he has given them a bravado they didn't have before.

Dude- May I inquire as to why you think the fundraising info is relevant here? I realize that sounds snarky & combative, but I truly don't mean it to be. I can understand, as a Republican (and I am assuming you identify yourself as one from previous posts) that information would be of interest to you. But unless I missed some posts regarding campaigns or competition amongst R's/D's regarding fundraising abilities, It seems like a "this is the only positive news I could find" sort of thing or, I don't know, just odd. But, hey, I am definitely not the arbiter of normal! So you do you! And yay Repubs for raising money?! I read a good article by dershowitz-yes, I said good- I'll try to find link. He makes a valid, coherent argument/point. My interpretation of it was that it's not necessarily that no laws have been broken but that, with the information available currently, no reasonable prosecutor would charge jr or trump. That there should not be a double standard. Whatever was applied to HRC's or any democrats case should be used when considering trump/jr. The most salient point-for me anyway- being, with information currently known. I don't know how far Mueller is in his investigation. 1/4; 1/2; close to the end?? And he may have found no prosecutable offenses, or a dozen. I guess we'll find out when he's done. But I have learned more about US system of government, laws, insurance, taxes, politicians, republicans, democrats, lobbyists, etc. More than I ever wanted to know! And frankly, things I should've already known.
