    The President Donald Trump Thread

Um... Congress has overbite of intelligence, which isn't helping because the intelligence community and Department of Justice are ignoring pretty much every congressional subpoena. Congress is not an intelligence agency. If there is Russian election meddling, it is the job of the FBI and DOJ to investigate and intervene if it's in the United States, and the CIA and State Department to investigate and intervene if it's happening outside of the United States. It is the job of the State Department to engage foreign powers, not the U.S. Senate. The president is the head of all of those departments. Trying to blame the Senate majority leader? Seriously? That's a stretch that even I never anticipated.

I seriously doubt that Trump believes Putin. But here's a big surprise for many here. Um... Russia is our enemy. They spy on us, and try to sabotage us in any subtle or even obvious way that they can. That isn't going to stop. They will meddle in the next election, and the one after that. To not understand that is naive at best. And it's true that Obama and his intelligence agencies knew and did nothing, but to you that's okay. But then Trump won, and the left screamed "Russia" for months without any proof, and there's still no proof that there was collusion with Trump. A traitor and a fool? Can anyone on the left make statements without finishing up with childish insults like this?

Agreed. But I see a lot more Democratic legislators, including the minority leaders of the Senate and House, Congressmen and Senators, Governors, the DNC chair and vice-chair using the whole Nazi, white supremacist, homophobic lines than any GOP legislators using the communist, anti-gay stuff that you mentioned above. They can't even use "racist" any more because the word has lost all meaning. Now, simply disagreeing with a leftist is, by definition, "hate". So fresh lemonade, tofu fried in sesame oil with fresh herbs, roasted asparagus and salad it is.

Childish condescension isn't an argument as you answered nothing that I said. But I don't need to cry anyone a river, because Trump is the president and Hillary is not. Republicans control congress and Trump is appointing the next Supreme Court justice. Um... we win. Will be waiting for you to go ballistic over whatever MSNBC tells you you're supposed to next.

Also an excellent post, and certainly reasonable. I don't want no government regulation, or no taxes, or no public works. What I want is reasonable regulation that respects the needs of both job creators and the freedom of the individual, and a more fiscally responsible government. Trying to change behaviors with stupid things like huge soda taxes, taxes on foods with certain fat or salt contents, banning straws or even triple taxing cigarettes is counter-productive. Worse, it disproportionately penalizes the poor and working class. The majority of true conservatives have no issues with homosexuality. We very much believe in live and let live, and the individual's right to the pursuit of happiness. Hell, I'm a male nurse. It's not as if I don't have more than a few gay men and women as friends and colleagues. What's tiring is the constant screed of all Republicans as racist, homophobic, misogynistic, islamophobic, xenophobic, Nazis, white supremacists, deplorable, evil and etc. And that's not the left wing fringe. That's the party leadership and mainstream media along with the majority of our "cultural elite". Hell, this is Lil Nel yesterday. "Either they really do respect and admire the sexist, xenophobic, racist, environmental damage, no concern for the truth ways of the buffoon, or their ego is such, that the simply can't bring themselves to admit their grievous error in 2016." In the leftist mind, it's impossible to disagree with them about the role of government or cultural issues with anything other than evil intent. Sincere and reasonable dialogue is impossible. And the increasing calls for violence against Trump cabinet members and conservatives in general is more than a bit disturbing. I wish more on the left were as reasonable as you seem to be. If you're ever in Wisconsin, would love to buy you a steak and a beer.

When I consider what would have happened with a Clinton presidency, I'm ecstatic that Trump won the election. The corruption, waste and further weaponization of the federal bureaucracy would have been off the scale. Yes, Trump is crass. Yes, there are many times that I wish he would just shut up and govern. What's actually amusing is watching the left absolutely flip out about whatever they're told to flip out about. Trump called immigrants "animals"!! Oh, he was talking about MS13, the most violent gang in the country? Well, they have a spark of divinity in them too, and Trump is racist. Families separated at the border? Trump is a Nazi!! Oh, it started under Obama and happened a lot more under his administration? Well, Trump is still a Nazi. Oh, and Russia Russia Russia. Of course they tried to meddle in our election. They're our enemy. But there's still no evidence that the Trump campaign was involved. Quite the opposite, Hillary's fake Trump dossier, used to get a FISA warrant, originated in Russia. And Obama knew about Russian meddling and did nothing? Um... um... Trump is corrupt!! Oh, and it's well documented that Hillary's campaign rigged the Democratic Primary. Looking for leftist outrage on that one. The left will talk for days about what shoes Melania wore. But talk about the booming economy, the return of International investment dollars into the U.S. with the elimination of double taxation, the lowest unemployment rates for pretty much every group in decades? Oh... um... gee... let's give Obama credit for that even though he's the only president in U.S. history not to achieve 3% growth during his presidency. China still has huge trade barriers against the U.S., including a 25% tariff on foreign made vehicles. But stand up to their corrupt trade practices and currency manipulation? Oh... the horrors. A few times I made the mistake of talking politics on Facebook. My family was subjected to language that I never even heard in the Army. Many years ago I had a monthly opinion column in a large city newspaper. I was their token conservative. Not only was I threatened and treated to long vulgar diatribes, but my wife and children were insulted and belittled. Gee, I can't imagine why I don't like America's political left. But the left is morally pure, seeking only ever increasing government control of our lives because we the people are too stupid to govern our own lives. Just give them control of everything, and they'll make life fair, creating a workers' Utopia. We'll celebrate diversity as long as nobody disagrees with the leftist line. Anyone who thinks that we should have larger, more invasive, more controlling government really needs to get a couple of history books. And that's my position. No further clarification needed.

Senate Intel backs assessment of Russian election meddling

No, Obama is the worst president ever. Why is the left okay with Hillary rigging the Democratic primary, but absolutely flip out any time Trump's name is even mentioned? First, there's zero evidence that Trump's campaign colluded with Russia. The Russians did not hack into voting machines or change the vote count. Yes, they probably hacked the DNC's computers. Of course, that can't be hard to do when you have private servers and Pakistani spies as your IT guys. Hillary didn't lose because of Russians. Hillary lost because of Hillary. Trump is the President. Get used to it.

There is no such thing as capitalist socialism. If you're celebrating cheerful profanity, then I've got nothing for you. But I guess when your party's leadership encourages you to publicly harass people for the crime of not sharing your politics, what else should be expected? TDS is alive and well.

Timothy must be pretty sharp. So, Venezuela is a Democratic Socialist country. They elected Hugo Chavez, and now the average Venezuelan citizen, in one of the world's most resource rich nations, can't get basics like flour or toilet paper. So, apart from electing leaders (which all socialist countries do, even though there's usually only one person on the ballet), please enlighten me as to the difference between socialism and democratic socialism. And no, Denmark is not socialist. Though I guess a 180% tax on cars could be argued that way.

Senate Intel backs assessment of Russian election meddling

Of course the Russians tried to interfere in our election. So they posted on Facebook. Wow... the horrors. Of course, Obama's State Department used taxpayer dollars to the tune of $350,000 to interfere in Israel's election in an attempt to unseat Netanyahu. But that's okay, right?

    The President Donald Trump Thread

Trump is a shrewd businessman, which is exactly what we needed in the presidency. What we didn't need is the ball of corruption that is the Clinton political machine, or a governing philosophy which wants to grow our already massive government. Democrats routinely yell that Trump is corrupt without specifics or evidence while ignoring the massive corruption of the previous 8 years. Sorry, not buying it. I didn't vote for Trump because I want him to date my daughter or teach Sunday school. I voted for him because politicians have corrupted our system and caved to both special interests and foreign governments at the cost of We the People. We needed a shrewd SOB who would actually stand up to the corruption and for American interests. And yes, I'm disgusted with establishment Republicans as much as with establishment Democrats. We have all of world history to learn from, and they simply don't understand the basic principle of limited government. Of course, you could just go on the advice of Maxine Waters and publicly harass people with whom you disagree. Nothing like calling people Nazis while engaging in Brown Shirt behavior. And I'm aware of the soldiers of NATO. I served with them in Iraq. As I criticize the Clintons, I would like to point out that I am very happy and not suicidal in any way.

Condescending much? I understand quite well how trade and NATO work. As a soldier, I cared for wounded soldiers of several NATO countries in Iraq. A part of the NATO compact is that each member spends a minimum 2% of GDP on defense. Right now, only four nations meet that benchmark. And American military power is the reason that you don't have to speak German or Russian right now. That the articles weren't invoked until 9/11 was because of American military power standing at the border of the Soviet Union. The Chinese government still levies significant tariffs on many imports, including a 25% tariff on foreign made cars. More, the theft of intellectual property by Chinese state owned industry is rampant. China also has significant restrictions on the operation of foreign owned companies within China while using government subsidy of Chinese industry to squash competition. Trump is finally standing up to the Chinese, which had to be done. Maintaining such a huge trade deficit is not sustainable.

    The President Donald Trump Thread

Socialism is government planning of and control of the economy with public ownership of the means of production. And by "public", this means the government. Denmark is not a socialist nation, and their prime minister made that clear when he tired of Bernie Sanders holding up Denmark as the socialist Utopia that he was going to change the U.S. into. Denmark is, though heavily taxed and having generous government benefits, still a market economy. It is capitalist. Socialism is a totalitarian system of government, usually rife with corruption. Karl Marx described Socialism as a transitional state to the elimination of capitalism and the realization of Communism. Examples of Socialist Utopias include Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, China and Vietnam. Note: in the 20th century, Communism was responsible for over 100 million deaths. Looking at the idiots that we have running our government on both sides of the isle, I'm not keen on giving them complete control of the economy. Again, the only reason that Americans can claim to be socialist is because of the prosperity created by capitalism. As far as the cries of Trump being corrupt, everyone is still waiting for anything resembling evidence. The Mueller probe is an investigation looking for a crime, which isn't how our system is supposed to work. Unlike the previous administration and Hillary, Trump hasn't weaponized the federal bureaucracy against his political opponents, created unsecured private servers, deleted subpoenaed documents, smashed phones with hammers, assisted in the rigging of a primary election, used false documents in court to secure an investigation, etc etc. There's a reason that over 90% of Washington D.C. votes Democrat, and why a corrupt government bureaucratic system hates Trump. And that's precisely why I like what he's doing.

    The President Donald Trump Thread

Well, reading through this thread has been interesting. I voted for Trump, and am very happy with what he's doing as president. Our trade partners have been taking tremendous advantage of our weak State Department and presidents over the past several decades. China steals our intellectual property, violates our patents and copyrights regularly and keeps their markets closed to our goods to the point that the trade deficit is over $350 billion. Most European countries have gutted their militaries with the understanding that the U.S. would defend them should the need arise. Our southern border is porous, allowing a nearly free flow not just of illegal immigrants, but of gang members and drugs. And there is no difference between a socialist and a Democratic socialist. The only reason that many Americans can claim to want socialism is because of the tremendous prosperity that has been brought about by capitalism. Socialism only works until you run out of other people's money. Socialism sounds good, but fails to take into account human nature, which is why it has never worked. It is the nature of government to be corrupt. Wanting a powerful government to have complete control of society is an insane idea. The founding fathers understood this, which is why the wrote the Constitution with the clear intent to limit the power of government. Nothing is free...
