10/17 What I Learned This Week

On iPhone, there appears to be no quote button here on blue side. (Didn't look on browser yellow.) So, in case any of you have not been by the thread referenced a few pages ago regarding WILTW threads, the yellow side will continue to have WILTW threads. They will need to make an honest, focused effort to remain nursing oriented. If you happen to have a non-nursing lesson that may still be of value, you may contribute it, but the responses really need to remain on the topic of nursing. The idea of also having a blue side thread has been mentioned multiple times. I know that the blue side does have a daily thread that a WILTW thread could steal thunder from, and I really wouldn't want to have that happen. Honestly, I don't know blue side. I don't know blue side culture, but of course, I absolutely want to respect it. I do like blue side and enjoy the stuff I have read here. I do think my prior posts came across as anti-blue side in general, and that was not my intention. Honestly, I'm just a lazy person and that's why I'm not here more. It requires extra effort to find my way to what I'm looking for, I can't quote posts on my phone, and I find myself on yellow side for so long that I've never really put time aside for blue. That really is it. If my prior posts were rude toward blue, please know, I didn't mean it the way it was stated. If those of you who know blue's culture well would like a blue side WILTW thread, please do have one. Whoever would like to make that "theirs", go for it! You will get no resistance from me, only encouragement! I wouldn't be here enough to truly participate in it anyway, and I admit the off topic stuff was just as fun as the on topic stuff. Anyway, you people need to put a word limit on me. I just scrolled this tiny screen up and realized how much I've just typed.

10/17 What I Learned This Week

Do you know what? I seriously love you guys. And I'm realizing my post came off as a "I'm going away forever" sort of deal. I'm not, I'm just not playing the game of going to the blue side because suddenly these threads have become irrelevant. My goodness, if you took every derailed yellow side thread and moved it to blue, blue side would be nicknamed the "yellow-side graveyard", and I imagine the blue side-only crowd would get pretty annoyed by the clutter. I do stand firmly with my previous comment, and second what those who have said that the blue side is simply not as accessible. We haven't replaced our dead laptop because our tablets and phones work just fine, and I'm an exclusively-app-only user. I think making blue side a sub forum of yellow would be fantastic because then there would be no need to even have another separate app for it. Yes, it is annoying to have to switch to safari, and then find the thread I'm looking for. The desktop site feels way too big to me, and I hate navigating it. Maybe it looks differently because I'm viewing it from my phone or iPad. Anyway, I digress..... I thank those of you who have defended this thread remaining yellow. And I'm overjoyed to hear the love you have for it. With these threads, I'm more engaged with so many other threads. I think the newbies have been getting more traffic on their threads, too, although sometimes not the traffic they expected. Spin-off threads have been created on other helpful topics. Better friendships have been made. There has been colleague to colleague support. Heck, for a little while there, the students tried for a knock-off thread. I was hoping that one would succeed. Thank you for the support, all of you. I am not leaving. I just don't want to jump through the extra hurdles. You may see fewer posts from me in yellow, and that is partially a reflection of frustration, for reasons mentioned in my prior post, but also as I said in this one - these threads had me looking at other ones far more often.

10/17 What I Learned This Week

If you look, it is more than just this week's thread that was moved. If a general "what I learned this week" thread, which includes topics relevant to nursing practice, private life, and nurse/patient relations isn't worthy of the general nursing forum, I don't know what is. Either ratings need to be boosted on the blue side, or I pissed someone off when I commented in support of a (worthy of discussion) RubyVee thread. I'm certainly not vain enough to pretend that I, one of 800,000 members, makes any damn difference in the scheme of things whatsoever, but it actually is getting frustrating to see great members and great conversations be driven off. Being that that this is, like, the fourth time ever I've made the extra effort to come to the blue side, I won't be playing this game. Anyone who would like to continue what was one of the most fun threads I got to be part of, I would be honored if you would take it over.

Aghhhh I'll catch up on missed things but.... I FORGOT MY BEST LEARNED THING! People think I KNOW stuff!!! This blew my mind! We had a patient with a very atypical seizure presentation. It was night shift, and slow for once! So we were talking symptoms, med history, prior neuro stuff, and two of the guys had a side-bar where one said, "see! I told you you should ask her!" And I'm all like, "nut-uhhhh", because really, me?! But they actually meant it! It was this amazing moment where I just realized, I do make a genuine contribution and it's valued. So cool! Alright, back to GOT, my low-grade fever, and my pillow.

I'm that way with Angie Jolie. She's still rather nice to look at, though.

If you haven't learned it yet, this is the time. Postmodern Jukebox is da bomb diggity. Vintage remakes of the popular songs of today and yesterday. Different performers across multiple genres. WE LERVES IT, THE PRECIOUS! Here's some Fiona, only sexier.

About the Clonidine: 4-year old who doesn't sleep and is exhibiting conduct disorder behaviors was started on Clonidine to try to get him to sleep. 2+ weeks in, he's hallucinating and his behaviors have escalated. He's gone from simply punching people in the face to actually trying to stab them.

Oh, dear. I wonder if my phone autocorrected that, or if I did it? It really could go either way.

To the inpatient masses, I've started next week's a day early. Might do the same next Friday because I work through next weekend. Enjoy! https://allnurses.com/post8743616-num1.html Btw, love the pet pics! We should revive the pet therapy thread. ❤️

10/17 What I Learned This Week

Because apparently *some* of you are impatient and believe this should be posted before the sun comes up on Saturdays (I mean this in a silly way, I promise!), here it is, a day early. This week, I have learned.... When everyone around you has been sick, and you think you've managed to get through it untouched, think again, idiot. I'm not ready to turn 35. It just feels weird that I'm going to. After 3 weeks of the worst patient groups ever, leaving late every shift from one disaster after another, it feels amazing to get back to normal. I even had a shift waiting for the clock to run out. Why is our staff biannual education literally the same topics always? Large heroin busts decrease the number of heroin-related admissions. Large heroin busts increase the number of cocaine-related admissions. This guy. Always this guy. (What IS a squash?!) P.S. NSFW NSFK Cycling between hot flashes and cold flashes is an utterly ridiculous reason to lay in bed awake when you could be happily asleep. I need to be permanently banned from free trials. Seriously. Clonidine is a hell of a drug. Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X. I'm marrying Farawyn and Dogen blue himself. What have you learned?
