What are you depending on when you are depending on the government? I trust my community 1000% more. That being said, there isn’t enough community $$$ to support every hospital in the same way my employer is. The problem in healthcare today isn’t the nonprofit and for profit organization of hospitals. That’s for another thread. Anyway, I’ve accepted the fact we are headed to Medicare for all. I’m just hoping it’s nit as bad as I fear.

No, because I know the government could never do as good a job providing all that I mentioned. And, next door to my employer I have the new VA hospital to remind me of that. It just opened last summer, several years late and $1 billion over budget. The original budget didn’t even come to $half a billion! And, inexplicably doesn’t even include things such as many primary care rooms as the hospital it replaced, so the old one hasn’t completely closed yet. https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/va-hospital-scandal/new-colorado-va-hospital-state-art-more-1-billion-over-n898091

You opened with, “How predictable that a conservative would conflate a fetus with a child. “ My apologies for not seeing that as a segway to a reasonable discussion.

I’m not anti-abortion, and I said using abortion to show liberals don’t value children is ridiculous. Nice example of pre-programmed liberal outrage, however. Everything else here just more of the same, here. Conservatives don’t value children. I get it.

    Presidential Election 2020

Yes, I know. It’s actually conservatives who don’t value children. Once again, I’ll say we have the same concerns but different ideas in how to address them. If you are going to get political about it, some might argue that the millions of abortions that have occurred in the US are a sign that liberals don’t value children. Of course, that is ridiculous. But not any more so then your assertion.

My apologies, but I’m not completely understanding your well- thought out response. Isn’t there a great demand for child-care? And that is why it’s so expensive? And so you say wages should go up? But they are not. I guess I don’t see the answer to my question. In your opinion, where do you think all the money is going? I see society values our children every time I go to work. Our children’s hospital is relatively new, and I’m sure there are a handful of others equal, but I can’t imagine there is a more physically beautiful hospital anywhere thanks to many donations from the community. We also offer every medical service you could imagine to a multistage region. This includes lifestyle medicine and a medical day school for medically complex kids. I could go on and on. All this is heavily supported by donations from the community, from kids making money from their lemonade stand to the most wealthy people in the area. A radio station last week had a telethon and raised $1.3 million for our hospital in 24 hours. Of course our society values children. I guess it’s all in how one views the world, imo.

Abuse, neglect, babies born to drug users are definitely societal problems. However, most people do care about those issues and believe we should be doing things to alleviate them. Not caring and not doing anything about it would better indicate that society doesn’t value children.

I think Tweety did a great job answering why it is so expensive. Where do you think the money is going? Children aren’t valued in our society? That’s an intriguing statement that I would respectfully disagree with. Other then expensive child care, any other examples?

    Presidential Election 2020

I agree with all that. Another poster asked why it was so expensive, and no one answered. That is what we need to know first before we can fix anything. Subsidizing childcare isn’t going to fix most of those issues. Certainly not the supply side of it. Instead of giving out money to use on childcare, maybe it would be more cost effective to encourage more people to open that kind of business. Especially the home childcare model. Maybe some regulations could be better thought out, and education could be standardized and left to a school to do and certify workers ( like is done for CNA’s). This may help keep the costs of insurance down as well. Thats just a few thoughts off the top of my head as someone has had spent almost zero time trying to figure it out. Surely there are some experts who have even more and better ideas. Generally speaking, things that are subsidized usually get more expensive. https://www.sayanythingblog.com/entry/when-subsidies-make-things-more-expensive/

    Media behaving badly

A Emmy-winning journalist’s opinion on bias in today’s media. Lara Logan of CBS: “That’s distortion of the way things go in real life, because although the media has historically always been left-leaning, we’ve abandoned our pretense, or at least the effort, to be objective today." https://www.dailywire.com/news/43610/propagandists-emmy-award-winning-journalist-lara-amanda-prestigiacomo?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=benshapiro

    Winning...the economy under Trump

Yes, we discussed this a page or two back. It’s frustrating too me so many people don’t have a basic understanding of how they pay taxes. I wish it could be that we got rid of income tax and paid a national consumption tax. Maybe people woukd have a better idea of how much they are paying and would pay more attention to when our politicians waste our money.

    Winning...the economy under Trump

I agree. He knows, and is spinning it. China might pay for it in fewer goods exported. US business is who is mostly paying for it directly. Companies paying into the government. Liberals should like that. I would say it’s the public as a whole who is naive in these issues.

It’s not really a deflection if I addressed the subject of the discussion.

It was an accurate statement imo to make a point. However, I get what you’re saying and I’ll refrain in the future.
