    Coast Guard, anyone ???

FYI probable cause, Title 14 United States Code. Sec. 1. - Establishment of Coast Guard The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times. The Coast Guard shall be a service in the Department of Transportation, except when operating as a service in the Navy. Look it up if you doubt me. jnette, I am Mandee's Husband and I will try and answer a few of your questions in a PM. I just wanted to correct probable cause's misinformed post. The Coast Guard can indeed become part of the Department of the Navy in wartime at the President of the United States discretion. Although the above quote from the United States Code says we are part of the Department of Transportation, as we all know we are now the largest agency in the newly formed DHS. Our missions have largely remained unchanged in most areas with the exception of homeland defense, which has increased substantially. Mandees Coastie

    Coast Guard, anyone ???

Jnette, I'll write you more in detail tonight with hubby by my side. Basically after seeing a recruiter he will go to MEPS and have his physical done and write the ASVAB, how he does on that will determine, along with the needs of the Coast Guard what jobs are available to him. After going to basic training they will send him to "A" school to learn his rate(job) or straight to a unit which could be a small boat station or a cutter where he can either "strike" into a job or apply to an "A" school. Will write more tonight. Mandee

    Coast Guard, anyone ???

My hubby is in the Coast Guard, if you have any specific questions feel free to ask. My husband is prior Army and is now a Coastie and loves it. The Coast Guard is in the Dept. of Homeland Security but benefits(pay, housing, medical etc....) are the same as the Dept. of Defense and in war time can actually be considered part of the Navy.
  4. Mandi, Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time. You really need to learn to say no, no to overtime, no to evening shift if you said you'd work nights, you have to stick up for yourself or you will get people who will walk all over you. You have to take care of yourself! Mandee

    Disney World Discounts for Nurses??

If you go to http://www.disboards.com you will see the Swan and Dolphin on the right hand side-once you click on that there is a spot to put "nurse" in their discount area, I'm not sure how much of a discount it is. The Disboard is an awesome site for Disney information. We stayed at the Contemporary as my hubby is in the military and Shades of Green is closed for renovations. Do you have children? Some of the resorts are more kid oriented than others but really they all have that Disney Magic. :)

    Disney World Discounts for Nurses??

Hi! The only discount I know of is for the Swan and Dolphin resorts which are on Disney property but not owned by Disney, however, they are really nice. We just went to DW in June, it was sooooooooooo great. :) Mandee

    Fess up

One of the girls I used to work with in the ICU told me this one night and I almost peed my pants, they had all the beds in one long room in their old ICU, I think there were 6 beds, anyway...she was alone in the unit and tooted, a few seconds later her co-worker walks in and says " oh my gosh!" she then goes around to each patient checking them for code browns!!!! The girl who tooted was so embarassed but she did eventually tell the other girl.............. several months later.
