What do you think about life ?

Thanks to all who have shared their thoughts, especially xtxrn and rn2bdfw for beautifully written thought provoking posts. I have never had to deal with a serious medical condition or the unimaginable pain of losing a child but do have regrets about not being a better parent when my children were young, divorce, poor relationships, etc. For many years I remained stuck in the past and became quite bitter. About 2 years ago I began exploring a spiritual path that has helped me realize the changes I need to make to start living instead of existing. So now I am trying to feel gratitude for all the experiences I have had, mistakes I have made and lessons learned the hard way. I am working on repairing the damage caused by the me who was lost for so long and to appreciate the blessings I have received. Letting go of the angst is a hard one for me. So thanks again to you 2 ladies for sharing such intimate life stories and the lesson of grace.

    Sewing, anyone?

SewMamaSew is a great website, lots of advice and a forum section. I think they even have one that rates different makes and models of machines. Google sewing blogs and you'll be amazed at all the online resources. If there is a Joann Fabrics in your area, check with them to see if they offer classes. good luck!

    The Economy

Here's an example: President Obama agreed to extend the Bush tax cuts for 2 yrs despite his personal objection to doing so in order to get congress to extend unemployment benefits that were getting ready to expire. this was at the end of 2010.

    The Economy

The financial meltdown was the result of many things, Wall Street criminals motivated by greed created derivatives; Alan Greenspan, Larry Summers, Tim Geithner, and many more will have to live with the results of their actions. Harry Markopolos warned the SEC for years about the ponzi scheme run by Bernard Madoff, they blew him off. BTW, I heard there is a movie in the works about Markopolos' book, can't wait for that! President Obama took the oath of office knowing the challenges that awaited him. His decision to bail out the auto industry enabled GM to get their act together and repay govt $ ahead of schedule. He has demonstrated his willingness to compromise with his political opponents, many of whom refuse to consider the thought of working together to solve the many problems our country faces. I am a registered Independent and try to consider all points of view but the birth certificate debacle and the failure of the Republican leadership to distance themselves from the freak show and lunatic fringe element associated with their party is shocking.

    Garlic Bread

this is a super simple and quick recipe--start with a good artisanal style loaf and slice about 1/2 inch thick, i sometimes use ciabatta rolls and slice in half horizontally. spread with softened unsalted butter or drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. season with s/p to taste and sprinkle with herbs/spices of choice (or not). bake at 425 until light golden brown, length of time depends on thickness of bread, check for color after 5 minutes or so. remove from oven and lightly rub with a fresh garlic clove. delicioso! if you have any leftovers, they can be cubed for homemade croutons. i am a firm believer in using the best quality bread/ingredients you can afford, it really makes a difference. in a pinch i have used frozen pepperidge farm garlic bread, the whole loaf kind. have fun in the kitchen!

Nurses Union marches on Wall Street

I was not aware of it either...a couple of days ago I saw a youtube clip of Jon Stewart's recent appearance on a fox news show. He commented on the mainstream and cable news media's focus on sensationalism that really made me think.

    The Austerity Thread

The previous administration gifted the current one with a budget deficit that resulted from the 2 wars we are still engaged in, decreased revenue by cutting taxes for those who need it the least, and just plain ****** away the surplus. According to recent polls the majority of we the people do not support the war efforts, yet we continue to pour billions into rebuilding a country that does not want us there. How many more young men and women have to lose their lives, suffer life changing physical/emotional wounds before we realize it is time to cut our losses and get out. Don't we have enough issues that need attention here at home?
