Good morning! Monday showed up quickly! I hate when that happens. Off to work in a bit. Hope all are well.

Good morning! Sunny and chilly here today. We're due for some snow later this week. It seems like we don't get much snow until Feb and March (April, May) now. It's like the seasons have shifted a month. Then we get a week of spring and then, BAM! it's 85 degrees. I miss spring and fall. We saw an excellent production of Othello last night. It was set in the present day, with the original Shakespearean dialogue. The themes of deception, betrayal, and racism are still relevant today. Tweety-Glad you made it to Day 5. You must be tired. Hope you have a nice relaxing day planned for tomorrow. Joe-Is the environmental group a new thing for you? Are they local, or part of a state/national group? Nel-You're at the end of your stretch, too. Hope things are settling down and you're feeling better. J22-How much snow did you end up getting? I hope you didn't lose power in the storm. Stars-Are you healing well from your procedure? How is your pain (I mean your back pain, not Nannie!) Hi to Herring, Ted, Spidey's Mom, Dianah, Fran, and everyone else who passes by today. Hope it's a good day for all of us.

    The President Donald Trump Thread

My statement was not meant to be snotty. Sorry if you took it to be so. I think access to late term terminations must be guaranteed, and a woman should not have to go through physical and emotional torment if both she and her physician decide this is the best course of action. If laws need to be re-written to guarantee this access, then yes, I support that.

    The President Donald Trump Thread

I have to agree with Nel. It's just a distraction that the Right is throwing out there. This procedure is very rarely done and only in dire circumstances. You can't walk into your local Planned Parenthood at 36 weeks and say "Hey, I changed my mind about this pregnancy and want to terminate." There may be only 1-2 places in the US where this can be done, and very strict criteria have to be met. It's disengenous and utterly false for the Conservatives to tout this as a popular procedure that is done for convenience. It is between a woman and her doctor, and is no one else's business.

Good morning- Yesterday was a good day at work. Nice patients, nice co-workers, no crises. I call that a win. My schedule looks decent today. I have a hair appointment after work and then will meet a friend for dinner. I'm working tomorrow for 4 hours in the AM, and plan on relaxing on Sunday. My sister asked me to go to a political event on Saturday, but I won't be out of work in time. Tweety-I hear you about not wanting to give up seniority and vacation time by making a move. It stinks to have to go back to low seniority and less time off. I hope things don't come to that. Best of luck with the 5 12s. You can be as cranky as you wanna be after that! Ted-There's a new James Bond movie out??? I love those movies! They are so campy and over the top. I like all the old ones and think Sean Connery was the best James Bond. Good luck finding a car for Step-mom. She's lucky to have you and Amy to help her. J22-I hope you get the part time position. Hi to Joe, Dianah, Nel, Herring, Stars, and anyone else who stops by. Hope today is a good day for us all.

Morning- Wednesdays have turned into my "bad" days. At least the dreaded Fridays are a lot better since changing the office hours from 7-3 instead of 9-5. Not much going on. Sleep has been meh, which is par for the course with me. We just got tickets to see a production of Othello this weekend. It got great reviews, and is set in present day. It's good to get some "cultcha" every now and then. Tweety-Ugh, that's kind of a sneaky way to raise ratios. Are you thinking about looking elsewhere now? Nel-Ugh to your situation, too. I hate Press Ganey. I've had to fill them out a few times from a patient perspective, and I let them know in no uncertain terms that I don't give a rat's patootie if the staff smiled, etc. I say that my only criteria is getting out of there alive and well, and will comment on the actual medical care I got. I hope you are feeling better, and I'm sorry about the barn situation. Joe-hope the throat is better today. Hope your workday goes well. Time to get moving. Wishing all a good day.

Good morning- Mother Nature is teasing us today with temps in the low 60s. It will be back to reality tomorrow with temps in the 30s. I also had a restless night. DS had left some Halo Top ice cream in the freezer, and I had a small dish. This is a high protein low carb ice cream that he loves. First of all, it tastes like crap. Second, it's sweetened with erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol. It did not agree with my belly at all. Lesson learned-if I want ice cream I'll just have a little bit of the real thing. Tweety-I hope you sleep better tonight and that you don't get called in to work. Joe-Hope today is better at work, and the headache is gone. It's good to hear that Stars is feeling relief. Hope everyone else is well and having a good day.

    Government Shutdown

It's been so long since we've been able to talk politics here. The government shutdown draaaaaags on. What are your thoughts on this? Ok-I'll go first. I think it's Trump throwing a temper tantrum over not getting his way about the wall, and he has taken his toys and gone home. He had 2 years in a Republican held Congress to get this approved, so why is it such an emergency now? I think it's unethical to hold government workers and their families hostage over this issue, and that doesn't even take into account all of the peripheral businesses and employees who are affected by the shutdown. It's bad for the country, pure and simple.

Hi all- It is beautiful in Miami. Mid 70s and sunny. It was below zero when we left yesterday. Heading out to dinner. Hope all are well.

    Presidential Election 2020

Agreed. I watched the interview and liked some of his ideas. He seems to be a smart man who has done well with his businesses. However, we've already seen what happens when an allegedly brilliant businessperson gets the top jobs as first foray into public service. Let's not make the same mistake twice.

    Wednesday January 30, 2019

Morning- The vortex hasn't hit here yet, but will overnight. I'm glad to be getting away right now. Temps are supposed to be in the mid 70s in Miami. That's swimming in the ocean weather for me. Work has been annoying. Patients don't want to come in and want all their problems solved over the phone. Our office policy is that all non-emergent communications need to go through the patient portal. I get that deductibles are an issue and co-pays are high, but we can't do everything over the phone, nor do we have time to. I had numerous calls yesterday from a patient who has cancelled all follow ups, but calls 2-3 times a day with questions. I outright refused to talk to her. Enough already. There's no reason why she can't make her appointments, and I'm not going to enable this behavior. End of rant. Tweety-That's a shame that many stores won't build in your part of town. I don't think you're imagining the reason why. Bigotry is alive and well. Look what happened to Jussie Smollett yesterday. I'm sickened by it. Joe-Stay warm. Don't go out if you don't have to. Take care, all.

    Government Shutdown

What happened to his campaign promise that Mexico was going to pay for his wall?
  14. BCgradnurse

    Government Shutdown

Regardless of unseen events, many people affected by this shutdown do not make enough to save for that rainy day. I think of all the small businesses in the DC area, like cafes, food trucks, etc. who have had to let people go or cut hours due to the shut down. It's really despicable that this shutdown is continuing. Shame on Washington, and especially, shame on Trump.
  15. It seems to me that Trump and many of his followers are living in a parallel universe, where it's always backwards day. I can think of no other reason why supposedly religious people (evangelicals) feel this morally empty man has been sent by God. That's just one example.

Morning all- I'm sad today. We had to say goodbye to Barney to the Bassett Hound yesterday. He had not been eating, and fiance took him to the vet yesterday. We knew he had a tumor on his spleen, but it grown a lot and the vet felt he was bleeding internally. He had also been losing weight and had no energy. It was the right thing to do, but still sad. He was old and had had a good life. Fiance's oldest daughter went with him, and I think that helped. The house seems strange without him. I think the cats know. My older cat, Jolie, is usually pretty aloof, but she sat on fiance's lap for a long while last night. She's never done that before with him. Tweety-Yesterday sounds like a nice day. I bet the concert was fun. Where did you eat and what did you have? Hope all are doing well.
  17. Good morning- We also got about 4 inches of snow and it's sleeting here, too. Unfortunately, temps are supposed to plummet as the day goes on, making for very icy conditions. I don't think it's supposed to get above 6 degrees tonight and tomorrow. I think I'll stay in, too. The cars are cleared off and the driveway is shoveled, so hopefully there won't be a lot of ice. The auto show was meh yesterday. There were a couple of makes I had wanted to look at, but they weren't there. The travel show was better. We looked at some not so touristy Caribbean islands and the Galpagos, and also got information on African safaris. A safari is a bucket list item for me, and I hope to go someday. We also looked at European river cruises, which look quite nice, albeit very expensive. Ocean cruises are off the table for me, as I get horribly seasick, even with medication. I started watching "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" on Amazon last night. It's really funny and I look forward to seeing more of it. I'm also listening to a podcast called "Dirty John", which is a true crime story about a charming sociopath. I think HBO has made a mini series based on the podcast. Ted-Enjoy your last night off of work, and stay warm and cozy. Be careful shoveling that heavy, wet snow.
  18. Good morning! It's bright and sunny out now, but that will be changing later today. Last forecast was for around 8 inches of snow, but then lots of freezing rain and ice. I'd rather have 2 feet of snow. I plan on staying in tomorrow, making French onion soup, and watching football and reading. Today we are going to an auto show and a travel show. Fiance likes to look at cars we can't afford, and I like to look at travel destinations we can't afford, LOL. The 2 shows are across the street from each other, and we will likely find some place for lunch in between. Last night we went to a lovely interfaith service at our synagogue in celebration and remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr. It was nice to see people of different faiths come together to remember his legacy. What are you all up to today?

    The Caravan

Herring, I agree with you 100%. Another saying would be "there but for the grace of God, go I." Another reminder for Zoey-undocumented people are not eligible for any type of government benefits like SNAP, welfare, section 8 housing, etc. They live under the radar and contribute to this economy by paying sales tax. These people also are willing to take jobs that no one else wants. Your rant about undocumented immigrants taking jobs away from Americans is simply not true. Unemployment is low, so that leads to the conclusion that most people are working, and employers are having difficulty filling open positions. Contrary to right wing groupspeak, Democrats do not want open borders. We want a reasonable path to asylum, immigration, and citizenship. We want border protection that makes sense and is effective, and don't want to spend money to stroke someone's ego or fund a vanity project. We want people treated humanely and with respect. I, too am happy to pay taxes to contribute to the greater good. I'm not keeping score of who has what or keeping a balance sheet of who is paying their so-called fair share. Life is too short for that. I find it ironic that the 4th Thursday of every November we celebrate a group of immigrants who were not invited to this country, and who caused great harm to the native population.

    Thursday January 17, 2018

Morning- Very cold here today, with temps this AM in the teens. We are expecting snow tonight, and again on the weekend. I think we'll stick close to home for the weekend. We're going away at the end of the month, so I want to save for that. We had a quick dinner last night at DD's restaurant (where she works, not owns!). She was surprised to see us. It wasn't too busy, so she was able to sit with us for a bit and chat. She's going to ask her SO, who is an architect, to design a catio for Niko. I don't want to let him out and he doesn't fit well on a windowsill, and he would love to be out in the fresh air but still be safe. We'll see how much this project ends up costing. Tweety-Hope the dreaded Thursday is kind to you. Are there still attitude issues on your unit? Joe-Sorry to hear about J's BIL. I hope for the best for him. BTW, if you're interested in a Lord of the Rings group, you might want to PM Farawyn. Hope all are well today.

    The President Donald Trump Thread

I love that Speaker Pelosi has requested this. It is 100% on Trump that adequate security protections cannot be made due to the travesty that is the government shutdown. The bonus is that we hopefully will not have to listen to him grandstand and bloviate in that setting for a while.
  22. hi Nel- Congrats on the addition to your family! He is so lucky to have had you come along. Will you ever move him to Biggie's barn?

    Good Morning January 15th, 2019!

Hey all, The Daily Diary thread has been moved to the "club" section. If you look at the "What's Happening" section on the right, there's a tab for clubs. The Daily Diary is located there. I would not have found it on my own, so wanted to pass the word.
  24. Good morning! I've missed this forum and chatting with everyone. The holidays were good. DD moved into her new apartment on New Year's Day. I was sad, but I'm enjoying the peace now. I drive past her new place on my way home from work 2 days a week and can see if the lights are on. For some reason, that's comforting to me. I was in Arizona over the weekend for a conference. It was nice to be in warmer weather. We're going to Miami Beach at the end of the month for a long weekend, not work related. Ted and Tweety-your trips sound wonderful. Definitely pack warm clothes. I was in Ireland in June a few years ago and it was only in the mid 40s and rainy. Scotland is on my bucket list. Hi Joe-Good luck with the healthy eating. I was a bit lax over the holidays and am trying to get back on track. That first week back is tough! Can't wait to see who else finds the Daily Diary Club. I want to hear how everyone has been doing.
