    Hi Folks,
I peeked in before I left the house this am, but didn't take time to post. I'm putting on the finishing touches to a presentation for a medical assistant association meeting about measles. I am afraid of going into too much detail, and yet being asked a question that I don't know the answer to. They want 50 minutes (yikes) plus time for questions. I am hoping there is lots of discussion and not too much of me flapping my lips.
Sorry Tweety about the 4 hour vs. 8 hour shift mistake. My poor old brain still likes the old 8 hour shifts. Congrats on your bowling! And the recipe sounds wonderful! And yes, I ended up watching "Howard's End" with Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, and Helena Bonham Carter. Youngest ds popped in and instantly recognized Hopkins voice and the "lady from Love, Actually."
BCg, I hope dd is feeling better. Not being able to catch one's breathe and not know why is scary. And I am sure you imagine all the worst case scenarios.
Ted, thank you for the music link. I heard "Staying' Alive" on the oldie moldie radio station alive while driving. I am sure the other drivers thought I was having a seizure, 😂.
Herring, good to read that stepmum is ok. Tweety is right, fine line between dehydration and fluid overload.
Hang in there Joe. Insurance company work sounds like it could be interesting.
Dianah, making a CD sounds like writing a thesis. Edits, more edits, and then more edits. It will be wonderful when finished, though.
    bye,

Good Gray Cold Afternoon to you all!
Glad not to be up in the mountains, as THEY are getting or going to get a "Significant Ice-Event" and they ain't talkin' about Championship Ice Skating.
S'posta be gray and cold through Friday.
Dogs get groomed Thursday AM, so Ozzie will once again have to be wearing his turquoise sweater. Pip just likes to be buried under a blanket with the tip of her nose showing.
Hubby and Nannie went to get their hair done; I told Nannie, like a good little dgt-in-law should, that her hair looks very nice. Nannie started  squawking that "She cut it too short; there's no curl left in it. She was supposed to give me a perm. She's going away for two weeks, so I don't get my perm until then." (hubby adds, 'no, nannie, it's 4 weeks until you get your perm...') To which Nannie responds, "SQUAWK!GRIPE!GRUMBLE!SQUAWK!"
I often would LIKE to say, "If you don't like it, or she doesn't do what you think she should do, SAY SOMETHING TO HER BEFORE SHE STARTS!"  Yegods and little catfishes! But, y'know, if she spoke up ahead of time, what would she have to complain about? She said, about the 4 wk wait for a perm, "Well, that's just one more thing I'll have to worry about." [ok, nannie, let's make a LIST of ALL your worries!] This is the woman who, after she takes her evening wash, fixes and sprays her hair. She'll be going to bed within 2-3 hours, so what's the point? We don't give a flying-anything what her hair looks like between 7 PM and 10 PM. Hubby says she is trying to seduce the Sand Man.
I'm doing okay, no major pain. But I am constantly catching myself ... either I shouldn't have done some move just after I've already done it, or I am about to do something, but realize it is on my NO-NO list. I have to keep reminding myself, "Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD!"
It's not that I am non-compliant, but I guess I am ...I am full of habitual movements, leaning, lurching, awkward bending, stretching to reach too far,  sitting down but turning around from the waist to the left or right to see something, picking up the (12 lb) dogs at times...  I am discouraged with myself because I am causing some aching and soreness with my unconscious and abrupt leaping up and all those other motions I make, lacking finesse.
I am trying to behave. I've decided that the only 'exercise' I can do is to stand up straight and adjust my feet-knees-hips-shoulders-head-chin...like I learned way-long-time-ago in a yoga class. Do you know, it is actually kind of tiring? When I think I've got it all lined up, I realize I have to readjust and readjust my adjusting! By the time two minutes has past, I'm shaky!  [Oh pitiful posture, seek thine ideal! And again! No. Wait...again!'] I will have terrifically strong thighs because I have to do deep knee bends to get things out of the clothes dryer or change the pup-pee-pads or pick up one of the 3,000 things I DROP every single day!
So, Tweety, at work, take a bandaid, upon which you have written the word "NO!", and stick it across your lips. At home, when you pick up your ringing phone, ( I have done this myself, many times, truly and for real!) answer it by saying, "NO!"
Joe, that insurance co. work might be the very thing for you. Whether it is or not, you have some time before you have to say yes to any job offer. Like others have said here, it is good to be cautious.
*Sidebar re: the word CAUTION. An uncle, when a teen, wrecked more than his share of cars. His step-dad said to him, "You need to be more cautious!"  To which my uncle replied, "Who could be more cautioner than I?"
Ted, It makes me smile to think of your core being containing all that MUSIC-MUSIC-MUSIC! (Did that sound like Ethel Merman just then?) I'm sorry that sometimes it requires a pick-axe and mining tools to get the compositions out! I'm sure, though, that Amy's head shots came out GREAT. She is, I think, beautiful and photogenic. How'd she end up with you? Does she have really bad vision? 😝  Oops! Sorry! Baaaaad joke!  I didn't mean it, HONEST! Your link to Boogie Nights made me want to break out my Bee-Gees CD and ... well, can't dance right now, so I left it in its case. Phooey.
BCg, Glad to hear your dgt is doing better. Had something similar to that once. It woke me up at 3 AM when I took a deep breath, it HURT like I was being stabbed mid-back; I thought my kidney was on it's way to being severely deceased. They did a nuclear x-ray of my lungs, would not let me move at all until they had a diagnosis, they were thinking I might have a blood-clot. I didn't. It was kind of interesting to see my nuclear-green- sparkled lungs moving with each breath. They said, "Pleurisy" and sent me home with the prednisone.
    Hey to everyone who follows!

    Good morning-
Cold and sunny here.  We're due for more snow on Thursday.  Last night I took DD to Urgent Care after work.  She's been having chest pain for several days, and couldn't take a deep breath.  They diagnosed her with chostochondritis and put her on prednisone.  I was concerned she might have pneumonia, as she did also have a cough, but the xray was clear.  She's feeling a little better already, but as predicted, she's very hungry.  Fortunately, she lives kitty corner from a fancy donut shop, so she can head over there to quench the steroid munchies.  Lucky for her she's tall and thin, so she can indulge a bit.
Tweety-I hope you sleep better tonight.  I hope you don't get called in today, as nice as the money would be.
Joe-I hope your stress level decreases, and a great job comes your way.
Ted-I hope your muse strikes you today and the composing goes well.
Herring-I hope Step mom is better today.
    Stars-How are you feeling?
    Back to work I go.

    Good Morning!
Herring, hope MIL gets well.  Such a fine line with these old folks.  I had a dehydrated 90 year old patient that went into fluid overload on IV fluids the other day and had to give her a low dose lasix to help with that.  She made it to rehab when I worked the other day so she was okay.  But you put out one fire, and another starts up.
Nel, I always have a resentment about "customer service" training.  It's quite simple...good staffing equals good customer service and I do not need any training on how to be a good nurse.  That river of poop situation sounds like the one I saw the next shift dealing with while I was charting (and call lights going off with one tech tied up in a room with an 18 to one ratio...there goest those customer service scores).
J22, did you wind up watching any Netflix?  I just watched a series on megacities which highlighted four megapolis's around the world (Dehli, Mexico City, Moscow and Hong Kong).  I enjoyed them except there were no subtitles when they were talking with non-English speakers.
Had a poor nights sleep again.  Hard a hard time falling asleep and slept fitfully.  Sometime after 1AM I took 1/2 a sleeping pill and slept a few hours.  Up early so as not to ruin tonight's sleep.  Waiting to see if I'll be called in.  It would be an 8 hour shift from 11-7, not a 4 hour shift.  Again, I'd be happy not to do it.  I don't need the money, but like Dianah said, it's for "life", and after paying off my debt a few weeks ago, I could use some emergency money and spending money.
I had an okay day off yesterday.  Mowed the front grass.  It was quite warm and the air conditioner came on.  Made a lovely "Cambodian sweet and sour eggplant and tofu" dish. I added the tofu actually and it cut back on the sweet.  Was quite good.   Bowling team did well last night.  We jumped back up to 11th place.  🙂
I need to mop the floors and cook something for dinners the next couple of days.   If I don't get called in I hope to go to yoga.  I finished up a 20 class pass.  But if I don't get to work today, I will not, I will not, I will not volunteer for Friday and work 5 12's in a row again.  😂
    Have a great day!

Tweety hope you get better sleep tonight.  Last few days I've had problems with waking an hour early
Pretty stressful work day yesterday, one of those somewhat confusing days of "can I do anything right?"  By the end of the day things had improved, but I am frequently feeling overhwhelmed and uncertain.   I'm trying to roll with the punches and change, but it sure isn't easy
Did talk briefly with a recruiter.  The position she was recruiting for was one I didn't want...at a problem hospital using skills that I don't have...but she does recruit also for one of the big insurance companies, something I would be interested in.  She's going to check into that and get back to me.  Hopefully that will prove to be a good lead
Apart from work troubles it was a pretty ordinary day.
Meeting J tonight instead of Wed since he'll have guests that day
More snow expected tonight and possibly some ice.  Wish this dreary winter weather would go, it does't help my mood

    Good Morning!
Been up for a while. Been working on February's composition. Yep! Pulling out chords and melody from deep within my body. (It's a process, and not always an easy one.)
Spent a good portion fo the day, yesterday, photographing my lovely wife. She gave various poses while I shot using various different lenses. Afterward, I sat my fat ass down in front of my computer, picked out best-liked photos (by Amy's direction, of course), and put finishing touches to the pictures. There were two teeny-tiny lights reflecting off both of Amy's eyes which were distracting. It took FOREVER to figure out how to convincingly "dull" those reflected lights in her eyes. Now, to be clear, I am NOT a trained photographer. All that I learned was from watching YouTube videos and a whole lot of trial & error. After a whole lot of "trial & error", I managed to edit two very acceptable photos that Amy will use as "head shots" for auditions, and for display at the theater(s) where she will be performing this summer. (She'll be doing two shows at one theater, for sure. 🙂 )
Today?!? Gonna pull more melody and chords from deep within my body. The plan is STILL to complete this composition, even if I have to take a cathartic to complete it! Later this evening, I'll be going to a monthly church council meeting.
Working Wednesday and Thursday nights. (Blech!)
herring_RN - Hope you MIL is doing well.
Joe - Hope work is kinder to you today. Enjoy your date with J!! 🙂

Tweety - THIS is for you! ENJOY!  (I LOVE the intro!! It's a great tune with a cleverly-written arrangement!!)

I have never met a a parent working and paying for child care who had car payments, not on a new car or even a nice enough used vehicle. I remember being an LVN unable to work outside the home because day care for two kids was about the same as my pay would have been. Husband was working minimum wage in a restaurant after losing his business to street widening. I got licensed and cared for six kids, two mine and four paying $5.00 a day for me to care for thos kids. (Those 49 & 50 year olds and their parents are still my friends.)

I wonder why society shouldn't share in responsibility for childcare. I am not certain that dual income households are a choice more than they are a necessity, for much of the country. Historically, the wages for those households has been flat while the COL has not been flat.
If our government demonstrates a need to share in the costs of business by allowing some wealthy corporations to avoid taxation entirely, why shouldn't that same government share in the costs of being a citizen? Corporate socialism.

Trump did actually tweet about the shooting in Aurora on the same day it happened. He praised law enforcement and sent condolences to the victims and families. Perhaps this wasn't reported in WaPo or the NYT, but he did send a tweet, which he seems to use more than his own press staff.

Apparently many trump supporters were also naive about their so-called income tax reduction/withholding.
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/trumps-tax-scam-some-taxpayers-get-unwelcome-surprise-after-filing-returns-201206749.html
Some of us did take steps to adjust our withholding for 2018, but many did not. And now they're  being hit with owing taxes instead of getting their usual return. I will admit for our situation, we had to make our best guess, between no longer itemizing and a change in income.

    Happy President's Day,
I am old enough, as are a few other posters here, to remember when Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays were separate holidays.  My birthday is the same as Washington's, so I used to have a school holiday for my birthday! I have a greater appreciation for both of these presidents, especially after visiting the DC area. And I have today off. It was supposed to be sunny, but its looking pretty gray so far.
BC, That meal sounds lovely. For some reason, I seem to have lost some sense of smell and food just doesn't taste that good anymore. But I do enjoy hearing and reading about others' experiences.
Joe, good luck on your employment search. I concur on the effect of weather on one's mood.
Tweety, a four hour shift seems like a sweet way to pick up OT, as long as patients "behave themselves", that is, arrive/depart on time and avoid unforeseen events.
Ted, is that where your creativity comes from? Wow.
herring, I hope step-mom is okay. Ugh, sitting in a ED sounds dreadful. Hopefully the provider can see her.
I have no firm plans today. Travel prep, food shop, and trying to stay away from Netflix.

I hear the president saying repeatedly that billions and billions are pouring into our country because of tariffs on Chinese goods. And yet, I am pretty sure I learned in high school civics that tariffs are paid by the people importing the goods, in this case, American consumers and businesses.
    https://news.yahoo.com/trump-apos-tariffs-producing-billions-090000310.html
My questions are: Does the president not know this?
Or does he know and is intentionally trying to mislead the naive?
Are his followers really that naive?
Why aren't more business people speaking out about this? Or is there just so much other noise that no one really cares?

Sorry to read some of you have work on this FEDERAL holiday.  Makes no sense to me.  What holidays does your employer deem eligible for recognition????
Tweety, good you are able to pick up some extra shifts to fund, well, LIFE. 🙂  Love hearing about your trips and seeing your photos -- even the obligatory beach photos!
We (dh and I and K) drove to the high desert (in the rain, which wanted to turn to snow as we went over the Cajon Pass!) yesterday around 3, and met bass player E at his recording studio.  Listened to the songs yet again, made a few more tweaks to some areas.  Just so they weren't as grating to our ears ;).
Then went out for sushi and some good wide-ranging conversation (theological, sociological, general topics as well).  Had safe trip home, got in around 11.
I had trouble getting to sleep (the usual after doing a program or working on our music), so slept in.
Dh is up playing bass to the revised versions of the music.  Next step in getting the music out in CD form is arranging them in a preferred order, then getting them and "liner notes" and our CD cover choice to the man who will put it all together for submission to be replicated.  Will probably use CD Makers, although we have used CD Baby in the past, for distribution.
Gosh, we just want to make the music.  This marketing stuff, we are not good at.  And that's OK.  🙂
Will do chores today.  Decided to go to Disneyland another day.
    Have a good day!

I did go to Whole Foods in Tampa today and spent my usual $200....how I do that, I'll never know.  I'll have to be careful the next couple of weeks if I want to stay on budget.
Dianah, you are describing "lomo saltado" a dish very popular in Peru and with a bit of Asian influence in that it uses soy sauce.  I had it several times in Peru and it was my favorite dish.  I've had it at the Peruvian restaurant here as well.  I've made my own vegan version too.  Peruvians are one of the odd cultures in that they eat potatoes with everything including rice.  They are crazy for potatoes which apparently was first cultivated in South America and introduced to the world.
