    Do You Support Euthanasia?

i'm so sorry, artsy girl. My father just had a feeding tube put in. When he was more lucid he's said to my mother, "This isn't much of a life, is it?" Now that he's in a nursing home he says, 'I am praying all the time that I'm home." If I could I would give him one perfect day and sit with him while he fell asleep. And I would then push the syringe in a heartbeat, out of love.

    Spoiled or Smart?

All they have is cash, Maura. She sees the social worker next week. She's as stubborn as a sleepy mule. Her way or the highway. Love the new name, BTW. :)

    Smart, Savvy Middle-Aged Women

"Eichmann in Jerusalem" was quite compelling. The portrayal of these people who performed such monstrous acts as difficult to differentiate from any of us made it chilling. "A Study on the Banality of Evil." WHoa!

    Michigan unemployment rate hits 15.2%

This is so not a "last 7 years" problem. The entire "rust belt," the old, indsutrial areas of the east and midwest, have been destroyed by jobs being sent overseas. No jobs = no tax revenue = higher payouts to the newly poor = the current disaster. This started in the 60s, when textiles went abroad, then garments, then hard goods, now "brain" jobs such as programming.

I got one like that saying that I'm a rotten person because I was voting for Obama.

AZ state senator: Earth is '6,000 years' old

Nasty, tnt. That's what was unnecessary.

I don't know why you voted McCain. Your beliefs align right with the President's.

AZ state senator: Earth is '6,000 years' old

But many do not deny a higher power. It simply doesn't belong in their research. Your last sentence was unnecessary.

My biggest problen is her willingness to give people like Jenny McCarthy a forum for downright dangerous ideas and then support them, lending credence to them with the millions who trust her.

And you can make me an honorary man, but nobody'd ever mistake me for one. It's the hips. Botticelli's use me as a model in a heartbeat. Well, if his were still beating, of course.

Pew Poll: Only Six Percent of Scientists Are Republicans

I was attempting to interject some humor into this. I also didn't imply that you are even close to violating the TOS. I HAVE been posting here for a looong time and wanted to impart a little very friendly, because I like you, advice about getting along here a little more easily. But it is clearly not welcome, so I shall desist.

Pew Poll: Only Six Percent of Scientists Are Republicans

No, it's too short to be in a constant uproar. Being polite and responding with respect to those with whom you differ is important. "Well, that's a fascinating take that I hadn't considered, bless your heart" gets quite a different resonse than, "whaddaryou, stoopid?" Being a native New Yorker the latter is my default mode but I have had ti change the factory settings. It usually works. :)

Pew Poll: Only Six Percent of Scientists Are Republicans

First, Marla, this is scarcely a dead issue. I think, though, that blue note is young, and his/her delivery can be a bit, um, off-putting. But I do not get the impression that he wants anyone with faith to shut up. That is, frankly, an over-sensitivity I am picking up on from a lot of folks who are inferring criticism where none is implied. While it is disconcerting to have one's beliefs called into question it is not fair to label everyone who does not share your faith and questions the Bible as being disrespectful. Unfortunately, there's a lot of this in here lately. To be blunt, any intellectual discussion of science, philosophy, or religion gets hijacked by Christians being offended that we're even discussing such things. The board really can't be All Jesus, all the Time and survive. One thread said, bluntly, that if you don't believe, keep out. I had a comment pulled from a thread that started out asking a question and morphed into testimony. I did not object then but, if it happens again, I will. The complaining that the liberals are running this board is ridiculous. Please take this as it is meant, with respect, and as an attempt to perhaps shed some light on how those of us who are not Christians feel.

Student Exercise shows folly of socialist system in action

    1) Nowhere has it been established that President Obama is a socialist. 2) This was an AARP editorial piece. They are, frankly, a lobby for the pharmaceutical and insurance companies, and as such will be stridently against any health care reform that helps us and lowers their profits. 3) I can't find another source to verify that that experiment even took place, nor does the author reveal the school. I doubt it as it sounds like a hackneyed reprise of similar stories.

Pew Poll: Only Six Percent of Scientists Are Republicans

blue note, there are many people of faith who do not believe the creation as laid out in the Bible to be literal. Those who believe that earth was designed do not necessarily believe that it is 6,000 years old but, rather, the 4.67 billion years confirmed by reliable dating methods.

Nurse Jackie and HawthoRNe - thumbs up? or thumbs down?

No, unless it's on Showtime's site it was pirated. In true Ferengi fashion, however, I figure, "Finders keepers."
