I kind of agree with that sentiment  "If we don't draw a clear distinction between Democrats and our candidates and socialism, the Republicans will paint us into a corner that we can't get out of."  Because republicans have already started denouncing socialism, knowing of course the Democratic stance isn't true socialism and probably like a lot of democrats themselves don't even know what socialism is.

However, as evidenced by the boos it is a balancing act because many people in the party are moving towards wanting social programs like medicare for all, free education, etc. expanded and embraced.

I too think he is right.   I heard the audio, the boos went on, it wasn’t just a quick boo over one statement.  I was  surprised at such a strong reaction.

I think it was you who said you knew someone who prefers Trump if it’s not Bernie.

It will be interesting to see how many are like that person and how much effect on the election they will have if they don’t get their way.

He hates Trump.  He will vote for no one but Bernie or another social democrat (I'll have to ask him about Warren), and will write in Bernie and if Trump gets elected he'll blame the Democrats and not the Bernie or Bust 2020 folks.

I'm pretty sure last election he just didn't vote.

But yeah, Democrats better work this out.  Bernie did not do a good job of convincing his diehards to vote for Clinton, so doubtful unless he gets the nomination my friend and likeminded folks will be moved and a write in for Bernie or sitting out a vote is a vote for Trump and they don't care.

Likewise the GOP needs to consider millennials who are now growing up into an age where they will become more of a voting block and more of a force in politics.

They have the older conservative vote, they have the hard line Trumpers, but sooner or later that is not going to be enough unless they come to terms with issues that are important to them.  They have the power to be the largest voting block out there and they are the most ethically diverse generation of all time.

Quote

"We live in a society where homosexuals lecture us on morals, transvestites lecture us on human biology, baby killers lecture us on human rights and socialists lecture us on economics!"

In a subsequent comment, the mayor wrote: "The only way to change it would be to kill the problem out. I know it's bad to say but with out [sic] killing them out there's no way to fix it."

This kind of talk might work in Alabama and I probably have some cousins and their children living there that think this way, but overall this agenda of fear based rhetoric is going to lose elections.

These are the kinds of "pyscho" people that Trump should Tweet about instead of Bette Midler.

Trump depends upon them to cement his approval ratings on the right.

But these folks make up Trump's base.

Do you think this guy is a Bernie Bro?

Trump will not insult, or call out his base.

“A new CNN poll acknowledges something that must terribly bother the network: 54% of respondents in the poll believe that President Trump will win reelection, a huge eleven-point hike from last December, when that number was 43%.”

I saw that.

The key word, however is THINK.

Did you see polls I mentioned yesterday, that SHOW Biden and Sanders with big leads over Trump in Michigan?

Couple that with young voters turning out to vote, in 2018, but voting against Republicans, the self-made abortion decabacle for Republicans, TWO possible trade wars, and well, it is easy to think David Brooks is right.

The Conservative writer predicts a train wreck for Republicans in the future.

You should really read his column.

He is a Conservative.

It is a bit shocking that so many people would re-elect the most incompetent, dishonest, and corrupt president of their lifetimes.  I guess propaganda and undermining public education works to further an authoritarian and kleptocratic agenda.

Again, key word is THINK.

Plenty of people THINK the Russians will work hard again to aid Trump 2020.

I didn't read that these folks necessarily plan to vote for Trump.

Most importantly, Trump doesn't think that Russia interfered in our election, he believes Putin. One time he said that Russia helped him get elected and then he backtracked on that. As long as Trump doesn't care about that sort of meddling our elections are not safe and it may not matter how many people "plan" to vote for Trump for him to declare victory and remain in office.
