It's not clear at all from the POTUS budget recommendation that he does, in fact, care about the lives and futures of American children.  It is clear that the secretary of education is going to expand the failed charter school experiment to a national scale while the administration seeks to turn public education into simple training of the labor forces, reducing it to an office within the Department of Labor.

The children will not benefit from cuts which make their poor families less secure or stable.

It is obvious from Trump's proposals and actions that he, and his cohorts care very little for the lives of the living.

Again, I don't demonize the other side. There is no need to. They do a fine job of demonizing themselves.

Seriously, how do you claim to care about the lives of children, when you support a candidate who spends each day actively seeking to make the world less safe and more polluted?

I was going to respond to Dude's post r: Republicans caring about children, but Nel and TMB summed up exactly what I was thinking.  No need to repeat it.  They hit it right on the head.

What am I missing? Congress controls the purse, and this article attributes these education funding cuts to Congress and the sequestration. Plus, the 2015 Congress was controlled by the Republican party.

Fundung cuts started in 2011.

“OVER THE LAST FIVE years, Congress has cut federal funding for K-12 education by nearly 20 percent, about five times more than overall spending cuts, according to a new report. “

From the article

Quote

The report additionally compares how President Barack Obama's 2016 budget proposal stacks up against previous years. Overall, there would be a slight increase to many programs that have seen significant cuts or that have been entirely defunded. At the same time, the House and Senate both have appropriations bills in the works that make further education-related cuts, such as to the Obama administration's Investment in Innovation Fund, or i3.

"From schools to hunger to homelessness, Congress is cutting investments in nearly every aspect of children's lives," Lesley said. "If Congress is going to turn this around next year, they've got to raise the budget caps for kids, not just weapons systems."

It wasnt Obama'said bydget recommendation and Obama isn't running for election in 2020.

I remember when Obama and the Democrats proved to us how little they cared for children.

I remember Republicans screaming bloody murder over Obama spending too much to the point of starting the Tea Party.

While I see your point, I didn't see Republicans line up to protest to this compromise in spending cuts.  It was a budget deal orchestrated by Boehner and republicans to avert a government shutdown wasn't it.

Yeah-some of the Trumpsters are still chanting "Lock her up" at his rallies.  Time to move on, folks.
