We should be aiming for the least damaging economic impacts we can obtain, which is completely dependent on how well we mitigate the spread and effects of the disease.

Being unnecessarily aggressive with mitigation certainly can harm the economy and jobs, although it's a bell curve; failing to adequately mitigate can be far more harmful to the economy.

My business, a restaurant, is completely dependent on effective mitigation.  That doesn't mean mitigation doesn't effect my business, I'm not doing as well as if I could still have a packed restaurant.  But I need staff and customers that aren't sick or dead to do well even with just carry-out only.  I need the spread to be reasonably well contained for people to feel safe even just picking up food.  I need my suppliers as well.  It doesn't take all that much more of a rate of transmission for me to lose some of these links in the chain that keeps it going.

Pretty much common sense, no?

Maybe I'm taking this wrong, but I feel like you are trying to debate me on this.  I'm not sure why you think I would disagree with anything above.

From today's NY Times, a story about TRUE heroes:

3 Hospital Workers Gave Out Masks. Weeks Later, They All Were Dead

Compare and contrast these individual stories of sacrifice, kindness, and sense of duty to others to those stories featuring overweight White men, holding assault weapons, whining about tyranny and acting out their Rambo fantasies.

More Rambo wannabes.

Yep.

Read the story.

All the usual right-wing rhetoric from a Red Hat rally.

Again, if they are so worried about feeding their families, why don't they take their "tyranny" signs outside the WH and McConnell's office?

Republicans are not supporting another round of stimulus measures are they?

Or are these more questions that you refuse to answer?

And why do these folks somehow think THEIR families are more special than anybody else's family?

I recall the Red Hatters demand folks at the southern border be locked up, and families separated, when they simply wanted to "feed their families."

Do you remember that, dude?

Hmm.

Again, nearly 90,000 Americans dead as a result of CVirus pandemic, and what is Donald John Trump doing?

Throwing red meat to base, and helping to further divide, an already divided and beleaguered nation.

Trumpsters ought to be ashamed.

Does anybody in the Trump family have a properly functioning brain?

Wait.

I already know the answer.

While the Trump family continues to make moronic false statements, here is what True Heroes are doing during the pandemic.

I was unable to this from WaPo, but did find these: The 'magic’ is back! Eric Trump says coronavirus will ‘disappear’ after Election Day and Eric Trump says coronavirus will 'magically go away' after election, suggesting disease is a Democratic ploy.

Thanks for posting, Chare.

I am waiting for Eric or Donnie Jr. to state publicly that ICU patients are paid actors, and that the recovered Covid patients are simply "failed" actors who couldn't get a paying gig on Broadway.

Geez.

I wonder why people dont read beyond the headline.  On second thought, I guess we know why then headline writers do this.

Once again, no one is saying the actual disease is a hoax.

"Eric Trump said Democrats would drop their objection to reopening American businesses after the election is over, regardless of the deadly virus."

The next paragraph following the one you quoted:

Quote

"And guess what, after Nov. 3, coronavirus will magically all of a sudden go away and disappear and everybody will be able to reopen,” he said.

If he isn't suggesting it's a hoax, what is he saying?
