The heightened approval for how Trump has managed this crisis -- particularly among independents and even Democrats -- is what is pushing up his overall approval numbers, which have been largely stagnant for years.

In times like these I think it happens.  George W.'s approval ratings went up to 92% at one point after 9/11.

Still, I think Trump really is having a moment and he could really shine and be a good leader if he wasn't Trump.  But still happy the country is leaning towards approval.  We need confidence right now.

I agree we need confidence, as a nation.

Unfortunately, Trump doesn't inspire confidence.

Dr. Fauci inspires confidence.

The governors of KY, NY and OH inspire confidence.

Trump will kill us all, with keeping this country open.

Fortunately, the governor's of OH and Maryland, who are Republicans, are pushing back.

And Trump doesn't have the power to "reopen" what governors have closed.

I am VERY thankful for that.

President Trump is the reason millions of Americans are suffering right now because of his cutbacks to the CDC.

His refusal to accepts what was going on in China.

The LameStream Media is the dominant force in trying to get me to keep our Country closed as long as possible in the hope that it will be detrimental to my election success. The real people want to get back to work ASAP. We will be stronger than ever before!

Trump being Trump.

It's very important to continue the campaign that the media is not to be trusted and only out to not get him elected.

Sad thing is his followers are going to believe that the media deliberately wants to destroy the economy to not get him elected.

Dr Fauci has a a few things to say about President Trump, the job he is doing, and the disgusting behavior of the media.

I'm not really seeing how Fauci "blasts" the media, and I'm not really sure what this "disgusting behavior of the media" is.  I'm really not trying to be obtuse, I've been out of the loop lately.

CDC budget was not cut.

Travel from China to US was banned in January ( and he was criticized for it).  Wouldnt that indicate he knew what was going on?

He didn't "blast the media" and the media is not engaging in "disgusting behavior".

See my note about how important it is to continue to foster the belief that the media is not to be trusted and Trump is a victim of fake news.

To me that's very disturbing to see that continue in these days.

Right wing media star Glen Beck continued in the vein (from the comfort of a home and private office) and his millions that people should continue to get out and work, even if it means old people get sick, it's a sacrifice we should be willing to do for the economy.

Such a moronic point of view.

First, as the bodies pile up, and the economy is still in the toilet despite the "sacrifice" of the elderly, how does that help Trump?

Secondly, perhaps many of those elderly could potentially be Trump voters.

If they are dead, they can't vote for him.

The living will see how his moronic behavior continues unabated, and will vote against him, and he loses.

I would think it is all pretty obvious, but then, we are talking about the Trumpster Cult.

I am not elderly, but I am still unwilling to sacrifice anything for Trump's economy.

Maybe, Trump should implore his wealthy donors to "sacrifice" some of their fortunes to help out financially stressed folks out of work due to coronavirus.

Gee.

Why doesn't the Trumpster Cult suggest self-sacrifice among the rich, in order to help the poor, and this nation's deficit?

Hmm.

Well, it isn't just cuts to CDC and NIH that has lead to this point.

It is merely one, among a string failures we can attribute to Trump.

There is also his downplaying of the severity of the virus.

There is his continued attacks on science.

There is his continued refusal to invoke the power that allows him to order businesses to make the medical products the country needs.

There is his calling for the "opening" of the country, when the virus is still peaking in our nation.

But again, he has been a failure for 70+ years.

A person would have to be damn foolish to believe he would suddenly transform into a success.
