You are reading page 2 of Pile on threads that last forever, OP long gone. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

I think many times those threads are started JUST for that purpose, because if you look, the OP DOES come back, they just elect not to post, rather they seem to prefer just sitting back and watching the pile on that they created. Kind of like an arsonist, except not so criminally deviant!

I've noticed threads where the OP presents an unpopular idea, or just a poorly presented one. Posters pile on the criticism, right and left. The OP might initially try to defend his/her position, but then retreats.

These threads can last for weeks, with one after another coming to chime in. Always, someone will indignantly mention that the OP has disappeared, as if any sane, self respecting person would continue to endure the humiliating barrage of negative feedback that seems to increase in volume with each cutting comment.

It's an interesting phenomena. Human nature is fascinating.

I agree with macawake, LadyFree, and Far.

Especially the comment about how we are not piling on. I've never called or PM'd anyone on a thread to say "Hey, let's gang up on that OP".

The threads that come to my mind are the anti-vaxxers where many of our articulate, patient, and very smart posters will rebut what the OP presents with scientific research and the OP comes back and ignores the facts and continues to present fallacy.

We aren't ganging up on the OP . . . we are just all individually commenting on their lack of knowledge.

Another trend I see is when someone asks a question, people respond honestly without any negativity, then OP replies with flaming responses, because the answer was opposite of what the OP expected.

Threads that take on a life of their own where people are responding to previous responses I have no problem with. The zombie threads, on the other hand...

Someone resurrected the "ICU nurses should get paid more" thread yesterday. Wondering if I should invest in some popcorn.
