This is the essence of what SamJ is attempting to Convey:

If you don't want your every thought or spoken (typed) word read by the world, might want to rethink posting your face photo in here or anywhere else.

It would appear that SamJ is concerned that certain Safety and Security areas of importance could be theorectically threatened if "every thought or spoken (typed) word... might be read by the world".

Those Safety and Security Needs are identified as the Second Level in Maslow's Need Hierarchy. Safety and Security needs include personal security, financial security, health/well-being, and a safety net against accidents/illness and their adverse impacts.

I've also posted a recent note about just how this photo recognition works, and how simple it is for anyone to find out who you are.

SamJ seems to be warning us that posting true representations of ourselves might just be threatened if some malicious Individual learns who we are and hunts us down. However, no example of any malicious act as a result of anyone posting true representations of themselves online is identified, only the possibility thereof.

It's scary.

I'm just sayin'...

The percieved possibility of harm without a actual/factual threat is termed "paranoia".

But it's okay to be a little paranoid. A little paranoia is a good defense mechanism. And even true delusional Paranoids have enemies.

Now, just for argument's sake, let's say that some malicious Individual recognizes my true online representation and is out to threaten my Safety and Security due to something I posted.

What have I done in order to prevent this sort of thing?

I told Ruby Vee in a previous post that I like living on the edge. "Living on the edge" means that I'm willing to have to deal with the ramifications of any and all of my actions. In order to have some semblance of control over those ramifications, I adhere to certain Principles and Standards.

For example, I have learned to respect boundaries as a result of being smitten by the experience of overstepping them. It's like Mark Twain said, "The cat, having sat upon a hot stove lid, will not sit upon another hot stove lid again. But he won't sit upon a cold stove lid, either".

Believing that I adhere to sound Principles and Standards, I stand behind everything I say and/or do. My Family, Friends, Acquaintances, Peers, and Co-Workers are aware of my stance. Information that I communicate to them is theirs to do with as they wish. Or, if I communicte a decision, I own responsibility for that communication and/or decision.

As Tony Baretta use to say: "And you can dat to da bank!"

As far as saying something that I might later regret, in those instances, I have only myself to contend with. Others are going to think of me in whatever way they want. I have no control over that.

I am not impervious to saying or doing stupid things. Hell, I'm Human. I can accept that trait in myself.

Now I only hope that "SamJ" is not David Berkowitz's AN.com username!

User ThePrincessBride has a picture of - you guessed it - Robin Wright from The Princess Bride as their avatar.

This is going to sound bad, but unless it caused serious harm to the patient, I wouldn't self-report.

If anyone learns anything about working environments, it is CYA and WYB!

Now, that's scary, knowing that there's a Nurse out there somewhere who wouldn't report a med error "unless it caused serious harm to the patient"!

Under these, hopefully, aberrant circumstances, I wouldn't use a real picture of myself either!

Unless... OH NO! ThePrincessBride is going to send Westley out to get me!
