You are reading page 11 of Oh, the weather outside's getting frightful...... If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

It got down to nine degrees just before bedtime, then started coming back up a little bit as the clouds moved in. Thank goodness, or who knows how low the temperature might have gone? Anyway, it's up to freezing right now, which feels almost balmy by comparison, but the winds have kicked up and we're expecting some sort of frozen precipitation any minute. On the Eugene news station this morning they said the precip could be anything, followed by falling temps again tonight and 3-5 inches of new snow tomorrow..........Our schools were open today and my son got his first chance at driving in this mess; he made it there OK, but I'm hoping he'll get out early because getting back up this hill is NOT going to be easy.

The good news is, the Arctic front is moderating somewhat, and by the beginning of next week we should be back to our normal wet, cool December weather pattern. Hurray! I never thought I'd be so happy to see 45-degree temps and rain return!

BTW: My dh's boss lost control of her 4WD truck on the ice this morning and broke an axle. She wasn't hurt, but she called him this AM to let him know she understands now why he wasn't able to come in Monday, and tore up the write-up she'd given him. Ah, nothing like a little karma to shake things up.......but I am glad she didn't have to be injured in order to "get it".

I've got to work this afternoon; the administrator says he'll come get me in his chained-up SUV if necessary, but there's only 2 hours to go and we're only getting a few flurries, which is far better than freezing rain. I may have to hole up there tonight, but I'll worry about that when the time comes.......I have my bag still packed.

Stay safe and warm, everyone!!

Well, back to this thread. The electricity has been out most of the day because the snow plow hit a power pole and downed it near my house. The poor guy, he was stuck in his snow plower all day until the power company finally came out and got the broken pole off his snow plow, and put in a new pole. We all gather 'round the wood stove and cooked and read by kerosene lanterns.

Well it was supposed to start snowing yesterday afternoon but it didn't really start until sometime early this morning (it is 9:30 am on Thursday). When I went to bed last night there was no new snow but I got up this morning and there was about 5 new inches and it has been snowing HARD since I got up. I was going to take my dogs up to the groomers this morning, its a 25 mile drive in snow....NOT!!!!!! So hopefully it will be better on Sunday when I rescheduled.

I guess I will sit her and work on Christmas gifts and get some things finished before I have to go to work tomorrow. Shouldn't be a bad drive tomorrow the snow is supposed to slow down this afternoon.

Now, the town is so behind on snowplowing because the snowplow was out of commission all day yesterday, that school was delayed 2 hours. It's still snowing. 14 degrees outside.

Nothing like experience to educate. Here, it's freezing cold, pipes are breaking, and the sidewalks are icy. I wish it was Spring already.
