Amo a Baccardi rum cake sounds interesting

Stars mine contains no meat but I think it usually includes ground beef or lamb

Another fairly productive day yesterday.  Shepherd's pie done before church, although just barely in time.  I'd forgotten how long it takes.  Thankfully no choir practice before church this time.  Ran some errands after church and updated my LinkedIn profile to include my new job, and exercised

Today will see how I did on our final exercise last Friday and if it's pretty good I'll start working with a preceptor this week.  Hoping to get more practice and start working on actual cases, although I still need to learn a bit about her site we use to keep in touch with the insurance adjusters

Texted with J, he's planning to return on Thursday, which hopefully means we can get together on Friday

Was expecting rain most of yesterday, but except for the morning before church we really didn't have much.  Has been dry here so we could use some

Will be cooler the rest of the week, up to lower 70s, though lower 80s by the weekend.  Might get some more rain.  Still strangely warm for this time of year

Good morning!
Joe, sounds like things will continue to go well with your job. What do you use for your base instead of meat in your shepherd's pie? I had one with lentils that I made for Thanksgiving. It is indeed a bit labor intensive.

BC, I've made Afghan "lubya" before, it's a red bean curry.  I also remember making some kind of stew.  I love the flavors from that part of the world.  Not sure what the original non-vegan version contains but it was pretty good.  Brady going to play the patriots wasn't such a big deal here, but his win made front page news.  I just read he was paid 50 million for two years here.  Seriously?  Well, he did win the Super Bowl.

Amo, sorry about the windburn.  Hope that can be resolved.

Had a garden variety busy day yesterday.  The tech that was a no show yesterday called in sick today.  She lives an hour away and is 7 months pregnant so I suspect we will go back to not having a tech on weekends soon which sucks.  We had a different tech scheduled today along with her and she was a no show as well. WTH?  Miracle of miracles at the final minute they were able to float us a tech at the final hour.  Really made a difference because we have a heavy patient load.  Garden variety heavy but heavy.

I'm off the next three days.  No overtime.

We're having nice weather in the upper 80's which is fine with me.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning-

We're having heavy rain today.  It made the drive into work a lot longer than usual.  I've already had 2 patients no show.  It gave me a little chance to catch up on reviewing labs.  This kind of weather makes me sleepy.  Not much going here.

Tweety-I can't wrap my head around people just not showing up for work without calling.  I'm going to sound old and cranky here, but back in the day, that was cause for immediate termination.  I'm glad you were able to get a tech.  Enjoy your next 3 days off.

Joe-I'm glad the job is going well.  Hope you get to see J this week.

Amo-The windburn sounds uncomfortable.  Would a new mask solve the problem.

NSIME-I hope Nannie can be otherwise occupied now that baseball season is over.

Looking forward to hearing about J22 and Dianah's weekends.

Well, hello! I am back after a rather stressful week, some of it self-inflicted.

A big stressor was trying to get COVID tests done for me, dh and youngest ds. To cross into Canada they must be done within 72 hours, and the main testing site here is overwhelmed with testing for symptomatic, contacts, and other travelers. And ds was working and didn't feel like he could go to the "quick site" that you get results in 24 hours, so he did it at a drug store close to his work. But then it appeared he wouldn't get results in time to travel. Argh. And then the morning before our trip he had a cough, and was very fatigued. So I was able to get him in sooner because he was symptomatic. Turns out he was negative, but in my mind I was thinking "oh crap, if he has it then dh and I have to quarentine!". And in the mean time ds's passport and enhanced license came, and I was able to fill out the online app for crossing the border. And I made ferry reservations, but needed to change the time, which took 3 hours to redo, waiting for a call back. We set off last Thursday, with vaccine records, passports, and covid tests in hand, and got picked randomly to be re-tested at the border. And almost missed out ferry.

The wedding was Friday,  outside at a semi-remote cabin overlooking a lovely inlet on Vancouver Island, and the weather cooperated, nicely. I will send a pic if and when I get one. The following day, Saturday,  we got together again, and dh offered to drive the bride's parents back to their AirBNB. Unfortunately, her mom, fell and hurt her hip trying to get into our vehicle. Two friends there, an EMT and MD checked her out and felt she didn't need to be seen emergently. Ds and new DIL transported her back to the states the next day, Sunday, and a CT showed she had a hairline fx of her hip. They decided to fly back to Maine today.

We went to Butchart Gardens yesterday, and it was lovely, as always, and splurged and had afternoon tea (like English tea) and it was wonderful. This is a stock photo from the internet.

And then we drove to the ferry terminal and found out our sailing was cancelled due to mechanical issues. And there was no room on the remaining sailings for the day. So we spent an additional night on Vancouver Island, then zoomed home this morning to shower and late arrival to work. We were luck enough to see an orca in the sound during the ferry ride.  I am exhausted.

I have read you all but don't have a lot of time to comment now.

Take care.

J22-That's quite the trip you had!  I'm glad it all worked out.  That tea garden looks gorgeous.  I'm so jealous you saw an orca!

Sleep well tonight.

Hello all!

Wow, what an adventure, nurseJ22!!  I guess the bottom line was met: the wedding went off without a hitch (that we know of)!  The other is all part of the adventure!  Now for the re-telling you will have lots of things to remember and recall!  Good you are home safe.

I have heard more stories of flights getting cancelled, delayed, and layovers switched around - for whatever reason --, since the pandemic.  I would think more than twice about flying, if I didn't absolutely need to.

Now, Ted HAD to fly, to get to Italy!!  His FB photos are beautiful, and it looks like they are thoroughly enjoying themselves!

Weekend was quiet.  I joined dh for the jam on both days.  Got the car washed, groceries at the store...  yah, real exciting!

We are planning on going to the Southwest Bluegrass Association's semi-annual campout and jam, weekend after next.  It is held at a regional park in the high desert.   I took that Friday off from work, so we are talking about camping.  It'll be a short trip (3 nites) but OUTSIDE, and will be nice to jam and visit with friends.

My computer and phone got fixed today, so I was able to work from my very own desk.  Apparently it was something simple, thankfully.

No Stars, what WILL you do once baseball season is over???  Does Nannie like any other sports or programs?

Shepherd's Pie sounds good.

Have a nice evening!

j22 - busy busy. But in the end, it sounds so wedding-full! Except for new MIL's fx.

stars - If the Braves make their playoffs, maybe it'll extend to the World Series? Nans will cont to be entertained for some time longer.

Had home podiatry visit today. PMP NP visits tomorrow. Got GYN out of the way. Cardiology is next, then pulm. Need to get the mfg recall issue resolved with my sleep apnea machine addressed. Still want ortho for a shldr inj.

I am STUNNED by the prices of facial oints/lotions. Just need something for the windburn.

j22, OMG I'd be berserk had I experienced what you just went through! Whew! Wore me out just reading it!

Joe, by now I'll bet you've had that "1st day of working new job". I'll bet you'll do just fine. Hope your preceptor is a good one.

Tweety, Enjoy your three days off! You've sure earned it!

Braves' next three baseball games are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; can't remember which team we play, but it is the one whose backup pitcher hurt his throwing hand and won't, naturally, be playing. I guess we'll do okay with no ballgames, I mean, this is the fourth year we've been here so we've gone through it before. Anyway at least emotionally she is doing better on the med change made back when she went to the Behavioral Unit. We can tell that her brain is still proceeding its slow decline. Every few weeks we notice a new little difference in her ... not particularly profound differences; She has what I think of as 'mental hiccups'.

We are supposed to have rain, maybe heavy at times, tomorrow. Hubby is taking Nannie to her usual general appt with PCP. He wanted me to take her, but I am going to go with them on Thursday to the foot doctor. I've had plenty more of Nannie than he has had, lately. By him taking her to Tues appt, that might get me an hour and a half, max, of quiet 'me' time. w00t, huh? But I need whatever I can get!

Now, watch, it'll rain so hard tomorrow that hubby will suggest calling to reschedule, and *pft* there goes my little cushion of silence. Don't bet me it will be otherwise, because you'd lose. This is a pattern of his, nothing new. I used to get excited about having the house to myself, this was when we lived up in the mountains, if he had planned to go visit someone or other, and just day before, for some reason he didn't go after all. And that was before we ever had Nannie!

Back then, if he actually went off for a few days, I'd go and get and eat roasted garlic, raw onions, y'know, all those things that bring on comments like "Eeuuww, what did you eat?" Now, not having much of a sense of smell or taste for the past 2 years or so,  a GarlicOnionExtravaganza isn't in the cards for me, regardless. Boooo! Man, I could eat roasted garlic like it's candy!!! YUM!

Okay, it's getting later, and I'm thinking of having a snack of popcorn while I watch a little TV. Don't know quite what I'll find, but here goes...................>
