Morning

Was a nice day yesterday, except for the weather which was cold and rainy

Had church earlier than usual, and the potluck thereafter. People seemed to like my beans

Then met J for brunch at one of our usual places

At church I talked with a member who's part of a cookbook club at the local library, the group chooses a cookbook each month an everyone makes something from it. Going to look into this today

Going to be another rainy day here, hopefully after today thing will be drier

GOOD MORNIN everyone.

Hope you all have a great week.

Gloomy here today. Colder. Not complaining about the cooler weather, however. :)

Hi, Joe. So you had potluck yesterday. Was this an All Saints Day celebration? We did potluck last week for Reformation/Oktoberfest. What kind of beans did you make? I did pinto beans and cornbread. DH did sausage and sauerkraut. (blech .... hahahha)

Good Morning!

Joe, does that group get together and share what they cook? Or how does it work? I sometimes participate in an online Instagram thing called #vegancookalong. This month they are doing the cookbook "Mississippi Vegan" and I've made one recipe from it that was an avocado kimchi grilled sandwich with a spiced vegan mayo that was real good. But we just cook it and take picture and post it. I actually love pictures and descriptions of food.

Herring, good to hear young people are getting excited about voting. Their record for voting is typical of young people..not good, but I think like boomers of the 60's and 70's, millennials are starting to recognize their power as the largest voting block in the US. I have a feeling Wednesday people will be talking about that.

J22, hope things work out for the "surprise" party.

Today looks to be a beautiful day with a high of 79. This will save on the electric bill for air conditioning. I did turn it one when I got home from work yesterday as it was stuffy. The tech that seems to sign up for every Sunday to work but calls in when I'm working called in sick. Rumor has it she was really sick but that could be her doing spreading the rumor. I don't care. Fortunately they were able to replace her with a float tech and I had a good day. Got two last minute admissions and a discharge and wound up staying an hour late.

Slept in today and need to get busy. It's "clean the bathrooms Monday" and I want to go to the gym and work out some before doing for a dental appointment. Billy is doing so well, I stopped giving him pain medication and he's finished with his antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. I'm going to try solid kibble tomorrow as he was to be on soft for a week. He'll be disappointed as he loves loves loves the canned, but it's expensive so he will have to deal. Hopefully it won't bother his areas of extraction.

Don't know if I mentioned my boycott of political news. I've quit participating in Facebook (I'm so tired of people telling me "get out and vote!!!" and reading vitriol LOL) and the political forums here, and don't listen to the news or look up news online. I'm rather enjoying it. Every now and then I'll pass a TV at work in a patient's room and the political ads are relentless. How they get away with such misleading twists of the truth is annoying. I understand the importance of this election for sure, but I'm tired of the back and forth.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi Tweety!

I spend a lot of time watching (and poor attempts at creating foods from) all things Food Network. I even had someone ask me last week at potluck if I got my ideas from there or was I just naturally a good cook. Talk about laugh out loud. :)

Glad Billy is improved. He might start a gofundme account to get that canned food. LOL!

I'm sure you're a good cook. I used to keep Food Network or their companion channel "The Cooking Channel" on when I had cable. Now I watch cooking travel shows on Netflix.

Billy is more than welcome to start the Gofundme. I might do one myself if he drives up any more vet bills. LOL

It was an All Saints celebration as our church is All Saints

The recipe is called Ranch Beans, its a mix of ground beef, kidney beans, and pork and beans

I think they get together once a month to share what they've made

I'm limiting my politics intake as well, tricky to be involved without being overwhelmed

Morning-

We had a nice weekend in Philly. It's always good to have a change of scenery. We did the tourist thing and saw the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Then we spent some time in the Reading Terminal Market. That is my idea of heaven. I came home with some Amish butter and cheese, honey, and several different kinds of pickles. We bought this amazing smelling cinnamon raisin bread that we gave to the relatives we visited. It was so hard not to sneak a slice from the middle. We visited Fiance's cousin's baby in the NICU. He is a grower and feeder now. He was born at 1 lb and 11 inches @25 weeks. He's now 4 months old and weighs just over 8 lbs. He should only be 2 weeks old right now. They're hoping to bring him home by the end of the week. There are no obvious deficits, but time will tell. He looks like a healthy newborn now.

Like several people here, I love to cook. I subscribe to the NY Times food website and a couple of cooking magazines. It's the only creative thing I do.

Joe-Glad you had fun at the potluck. The cookbook club sounds interesting.

Siri-I'm with you on the sausage and sauerkraut..blech! It's always nice to see you here.

Tweety-Glad Billy is back to himself. I have not been successful in turning off the political stuff. I'm afraid that if I do I might miss something important, LOL. I am pretty invested in the safe staffing bill for nurses in my state and the bill to protect transgender rights. I guess I feel somewhat disloyal if I don't keep defending these bills. It will all be decided tomorrow, and then I can either mourn or celebrate.

Has anyone heard from Ted?

I love cooking. But, gourmet meals with ingredients that I'm pretty sure I'd NEVER find in my neck of the woods ... well, I'd never be able to do that.

Tell Billy if he starts one of those accounts, I'll help him out. :):)

Now I'm curious what all you put in this besides meat and beans. My dh would love that, I think.

Hey, BC.

Thanks, good to be back with all ya'll.

I can remember years back the Break Room Good Morning thread was the very first thing I'd come to every day ... trying to be the first to start the thread (some members who I will not name ..... TWEETY .........oops, I said that out loud, didn't I?).

Politics? Those who know me know I can't debate and live on TUMS and beta-blockers when I have to enter the political domain. LOL!

The 50% German in me that loves sauerkraut and sausage can't stand this blaspheme from you. LOL

There's only so many times I can say "get out and vote" and read "get out and vote". I'm done. I'm hoping you have cause to celebrate on Tuesday. I'm really hoping I do too. I only want two things...Ted Cruz out and the Democrat to win our Governor. I'm not too thrilled with him, but the other candidate would be just like Trump...and well you know. Oh wait, this is the Daily Thread and I'm not supposed to talk politics. Opps...my bad.

I'm missing Ted. A few days ago he commented on my Facebook but hasn't been here. Wonder what's up with that?

I'm a cookbook collector and love using them and browsing them. Which is a bit silly with so much free stuff on the internet.

Siri, I'm lucky to live in an area where obscure items can be found. I have been known to use Amazon for really hard things to find like the "tree tomato" hot sauce I had in Ecuador.
