Morning

Was a little disappointed that we had to cancel brunch yesterday, J ate something that upset his stomach.  I do wish he'd be more careful about his diet

Was able to get laundry done after I got back from church.  Got out for a walk as it was quite warm outside.  Choir did well despite half the members being out and having no altos

Hoping for a fairly quiet week at work

Rainy day today.  Will be between the 40s and the 50s over the next week, with more rain but no snow expected

Good Morning!

Joe, sorry to hear about J.  He does seem to have a delicate system doesn't he?

Dianah, hope you slept better and sorry to hear about the cruise, but glad the family is still getting together.

Stars, I agree the news does seem a bit grim these days.

J22, hope you continue to heal.  I can so relate to having too much on your mind.  This happens to me at work a lot.  I too am striving to stay mindful and focused.  Not easy because I think sometimes I have borderline ADD.

Rose, that sounds like some good sleep!

Herring, rain is a good thing for California isn't it?

Amo, I didn't know I had an automatic time changer on my alarm clock by my bed until one day it switched and it wasn't time for it to change as I programed it incorrectly.  I have since turned that function off.  I'd rather do it myself.  Especially since I'm often working that weekend.

Speaking of, losing that hour of sleep hit me hard this year.  I was tired all day long and lived on coffee, not a good thing.  Fatigue and caffeine is not good for the borderline blood pressure.   We had a nurse call in sick and no one told the night charge nurse, so at the last minute I had to take her assignment after briefly thinking we were well staffed.  If it's not being short to start with, people call in sick

I slept in today.  Nothing much on the agenda for today.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi folks. I had a decent day yesterday, run in the park and did some yard clean-up. Whilst bending down to pick up some prunings, I got this awful pressure/pain in my face and realized that I must have a sinus infection or my allergies are kicking in, or both. This happens about every 2 years or so. So Neti pot, nasal steroids and claritin for this girl.  But I did some welcome sleep last night.

Joe, I think you are correct in that J might feel better with a more conscientious diet, but of course, habits are hard to break. Ha he tried any sort of elimination diet? Also for what its worth, I experienced quite a bit of gastric discomfort a few years ago. I ended up getting acupuncture, which seemed to help quite a bit. Plus I don't eat much wheat, except for my multigrain toast in the morning.

My alarm clock is super-old so no auto-time correct. I depend on my Iphone for that, and find it helpful when crossing time zones. Dh is pretty obsessive about changing clocks, so he reset the microwave even.

PJ bottoms! What a lovely discovery. I confess, I live in my PJ pants while at home. They're soft and comfy. But I draw the line at wearing them to the store, unlike my neighbors.

Tweety, yes, mindfulness is truly challenging, isn't it? The one thing I've been doing that helps is progressive relaxation. That just sucks about your staffing. Not much you can do about it though.

I best get back to carpe-ing this dium. Cheers.

Hello all-

It's 65 degrees here and I just got back from a lovely 30 minute walk at lunch.  It looks like it's going to stay above 50 all week.  I do hope the groundhog was right.  I'm itching to plant some pansies, but I'll likely regret it.  It's still a bit too early.

Niko was back to himself yesterday after a day of hiding after Sophie attacked him.  I was really upset and did not sleep well the night before, worried that I ruined his life, 😂. I can catastrophize at 3 AM with the best of them.  I will keep her in solitary til the weekend.  I did get some Feliway calming diffusers, and will put a calming collar on Sophie before I try the re-introduction again.

Fiance is in Florida for training for his new job.  I hope it works out.

Joe-Sorry you had to cancel brunch.  Is J receptive to any dietary advice?  I often recommend a 3 week elimination to patients who have GI issues.

Tweety-I hope you can recharge a bit today.  Being chronically short staffed is so stressful.  Did that witch of a patient go home?

J22-Hope the sinus stuff improves.  I agree that mindfulness is tough.  I have too much of a squirrel brain to be able to turn it off for meditation.  I listen to white noise or water sounds on an app on my phone if I can't unwind enough to sleep. Good for you for running!

Hope all have a good day, and something happens to make you smile.

I'm not sure how receptive J is to dietary advice but I can mention an elimination diet

Ah the joys of a nice URI.

Store shelves are looking a bit bare in interior Alaska.  The Iditarod is underway.  The temperatures have finally crept above zero as the sun is up.

Yo, peeps!

Nannie is in a tizzy. She has on two pull-ups and a pair of cotton panties, and she was about to pull a pair of tan pants over the white pants she has on. She had to put on all her makeup and is fretting about a 'dip' in her hair, ie it isn't  rounded smoothly at the top. Then she couldn't figure out what to do with the two clear plastic travel-size bags that I got for her purse so she wouldn't have to go fishing through the bottom of it for all the little things, like part of her massive collection of lipsticks.  Put. them. in. your. purse, Nannie. And Lordie, she is once again out of hairspray. OY. She also keeps talking about black lady who came yesterday and this morning to check on ... ? ... and "make suggestions", as she has done at other houses on this street. Don't know WHAT that's about! Nobody was here yesterday except hubby and I. And it doesn't matter how many times you tell her, "We are not going anywhere, we have no plans to go anywhere, no one has called about 'coming to pick her up', no one is coming over to visit or have a meeting, either." She says she understands that and in the next breath it is, "When are we going to leave?" Tizzy-tizzy-tizzy!

Hubby did call the pulmonary office and they are going to call him something into the pharmacy to replace the Anoro which gave him almost every side-effect on the list. He still has a cough I think is too vigorous; I'm afraid he'll pop or has popped another 'bleb'. He had no pain when it happened before, so him saying he has no pain does not reassure me. He has cut down on the cigts, but I suspect he had more than 10 yesterday. Like I said, the next CT scan isn't until the 27th. Wish I could stamp my foot and say "Do it NOW!" to the doc, but that's a fantasy that would not come true.

Sometimes I feel like I have to stand on his and Nannie's shoulders to get them to behave even just a little bit. And the lists in my 'brain' (notebook) are two pages full. Dreaming that I'll win a sweepstakes has not, so far, yielded any $$$. I'd love to be able to just get everything taken care of for both hubby and me ... hearing-aids, glasses, dental appts, his knees replaced, our wills done, and a permanent Nannie-sitter while we get the legalities about her straightened out so she will be all set up for placement, but who knows when that might be. In all the hubbub this morning, I didn't get to call the Eldercare lawyer. Supposedly, before she goes on Medicaid, (among the other things needing to be lined up) there can't be any of her $ spent, even if the checking account has both her and hubby on it; well, no way can we pay lawyers fees if it isn't with her money! Our social security checks barely cover OUR needs; we have to wait for them every month to be able to plan out what'll be spent on what. I will be sure to set my alarm clock for tomorrow morning so I can catch them before they have to go to court on their other cases, thereby limiting their availability.

Lunch has arrived and I'm hongry and hangry!

Later, you'n's!

Tweety: Yes we are being told that although our reservoirs are nearly full there isn't enough snow to prevent another drought unless we get more rain. Heavy rain is predicted to start tonight, and last two full days. I put objects under the leaks in the dog's room. Neither of us wants to get on the roof at our age. The patio room is the only one with leaks.

Good Afternoon -

Well. . . We ain't going to Italy this month. It's because of the Coronavirus pandemic, unfortunately. As I previously shared this trip is "paid up". And, it seems that the travel insurance that we purchased does not cover pandemics. However, it seems that we can re-schedule our trip to Italy for another time using the monies that we've paid. But, the rescheduled trip must take place before the end of 2020. So, I "fast-tracked" a request for a fall vacation from work. It's been approved, thankfully! Barring any more pandemics, we hope to do our most anticipated trip to Italy at the end of September into early October.  In the meanwhile, barring any further travel bans, we're spending our spring vacation (and celebrating my 60th birthday!) in Sedona, Arizona. We both LOVE Sedona and the surrounding area, so this ain't bad at all! To put it mildly, yesterday was a wild ride for Amy as she negotiates and re-negotiates our travel plans. (Amy has been planning our vacations for the past several years. She's great at it and she enjoys doing this!)

In the meanwhile, I feel like I was hit be a ton of bricks. Yesterday was the usual Church/lack-of-sleep/work thing. Only got about 2 1/2 hours of sleep before going to work last evening. (It's now 4:10 PM, EST, and I recently woke up about 45 minutes ago!) Work, itself, was a nice steady-busy. But the lack-of-sleep thing is getting really, really, really old. Thankfully, I'm off from work tonight and tomorrow night.

The plan for today is simply to relax. After I'm done typing here, I'm going to have a mid-afternoon lunch. After lunch I'll plant my fat butt in front of the computer and continue to edit the educational videos for work. Sounds nice.

Be well, folks. Remember: Wash your hands! I do it at least once a day!! 😛

Peace. . .  🙂

Ted

Afternoon all! Spring has sprung! Or at least pretended to- we'll see if it's still this warm all week. Windows and doors have been thrown open, which means it's the first day of the annual "all the pet hair hiding in places the broom can't get to will suddenly begin rolling across the floor pretending to be tumbleweeds!" The joys of pet parenting! Dinner with dad and unplanned laundry (it may or may not be related to the pet parenting... I'm tempted to shave them all!) later on.

When I was a kid in Anchorage I would sneak out when the sun came up around midnight and play.

Get well.

Ted, so sorry to hear you can't go to Italy just yet.  I lost a lot of money on a trip to Thailand when when my travel insurance didn't cover "civil unrest", but I was already there, it was getting home that was the issue because the airport was shut down.  Ugh.....

On the other hand I've been getting "cancel for any reason" insurance the last several trips.  Some friends of mind had this and just canceled a trip to Europe and hope to get their money back with this insurance.

We're having a lovely day in the low 80's.  I got my car back from the shop and it looks great.  I paid zero of the $2,000 and only paid a little extra to the car rental shop for insurance.   Glad to have my car back though.

Took a long nap this afternoon.  Still being wiped out from the time change I suppose.  Right now I feel great.
