Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CNN) -- [breaking news alert, 6:43 p.m. ET]

Twenty of the passengers aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 work with Freescale Semiconductor, an Austin, Texas-based company. The company said that 12 of the employees are from Malaysia and eight are from China.

Where is Malaysia Airlines Flight 370? Traces of oil seen in area of last contact

(CNN) -- What happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370?

The closest things to clues in the search for the missing commercial jetliner are oil slicks in the Gulf of Thailand where all contact was lost with the flight, which was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

A Vietnamese search plane, part of a massive, multinational search effort , spotted the oil slicks that stretch between six and nine miles, the Vietnam government's official news agency reported. The traces of oil were found about 90 miles south of Tho Chu Island, the report said, in the same area where the flight disappeared from radar early Saturday morning.

The oil discovery only added to a growing list of questions about the fate of the plane carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members: Why was no distress signal issued, and who exactly was aboard?

I saw the tag line report of this on Fox News while I was listening to Palin's keynote speech at CPAC. Odd indeed!

The fact that no wreckage has been found floating in the water leads to believe that the plane did not blow up in air, but rather went down in one piece from a catastrophic system failure of possibly the flight controls. We're they hacked into? Who knows?

If a catastrophic failure/hack, there may have been no power to the radios and it may have been put in a dive that brought it down too fast to try to do anything. Just my two cents is all.

Interesting thought.

It is beginning to look like the plane may have tried to return to the airport of origin, but did not radio such. Again indicating that they had no ability to radio perhaps?

It is a tragic mystery that one is drawn to.

Exclusive: Radar data suggests missing Malaysia plane deliberately flown way off course - sources

By Niluksi Koswanage and Siva Govindasamy

KUALA LUMPUR Fri Mar 14

Military radar data suggests a Malaysia Airlines jetliner missing for nearly a week was deliberately flown hundreds of miles off course, heightening suspicions of foul play among investigators, sources told Reuters on Friday.

Analysis of the Malaysia data suggests the plane, with 239 people on board, diverted from its intended northeast route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and flew west instead, using airline flight corridors normally employed for routes to the Middle East and Europe, said sources familiar with investigations into the Boeing 777's disappearance....

... "What we can say is we are looking at sabotage, with hijack still on the cards," said that source, a senior Malaysian police official.

All three sources declined to be identified because they were not authorized to speak to the media and due to the sensitivity of the investigation....

One has to wonder if this plane is on the ground somewhere, landed. Or if it is crashed into the ocean. It is like an episode of LOST.

if it went down whole, why no distress call?

When Air France 447 crashed into the Atlantic during a thunderstorm in 2009, it never sent a distress call. No one knew where the plane was until the first debris surfaced 6 days later. The crash was ultimately chalked up to mechanical error and pilot error.

When ValuJet flight 592 crashed into the Everglades in 1996, in broad daylight, several witnesses (some tourists in a private plane and a group of fishermen) said the plane disappeared into the water. Very little debris was found.

"On Saturday, the announcement from Malaysia brought dismay in Beijing among family members and friends of the many Chinese nationals who were onboard the missing plane. For a week, the families and friends have gathered at a hotel, receiving updates from Malaysia Airlines employees and waiting for news. Several managed to find some relief in the announcement that at least one person had apparently seized control of the plane, because that still left a faint hope that the passengers were somehow alive somewhere."

“Despite media reports that the plane was hijacked, I wish to be very clear: we are still investigating all possibilities as to what caused MH370 to deviate from its original flight path,”

Prime Minister Najib said the plane could be anywhere from “Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to northern Thailand, or a southern corridor stretching approximately from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean”. Earlier, a senior Malaysian military official had told AFP that investigators now believe the plane was commandeered by a “skilled, competent and current pilot,” but stopped short of specifying whether a hijacker or member of the crew was suspected.

“He knew how to avoid the civilian radar. He appears to have studied how to avoid it,” the official said.

I do know this, I am weary of the ridiculous amount of time that US "news" media on TV are devoting to this story. It is way past old at this point. Seriously, the MUST be other things that they could report on that are actually news worthy happening right now in our country and around the world. It is the epitome of lazy journalism and I am so sick of it.

I suppose the cable news outlets in particular focus time on whatever will get the most viewership. I don't think that most of the population are news hounds or that interested in politics. Therefore this story will get the most coverage. Now it's 10 days out.......I've heard so much false news even from official government sources that I've lost interest. I think we all know this plane is at the bottom of the ocean somewhere and we may never know the reason.
