Now Trump is calling for Mitt Romney's impeachment, because the Senator dared to criticize Donnie Dictator.

Why would anybody waste precious moments of their life defending such a moron?

That is the real question.

Trump believes that Senators are impeached?

Apparently so.

But hey, he also believes he is a genius.

And he probably believes that Putin really, really likes him.

Absolute moron.

Maybe "brainwashed by the media" is a bit too strong of a sentiment for me to say but I'm bit baffled that when people are faced with the news they are saying "Not true!" "Fake News!", "this is the Democrats only staging a coup to get rid of the President".

I've lost faith.

off topic about he media:  but I'm wondering if this is a new strategy by the right to go to Democrat town halls and heckle.  It's what they did to Obama's town halls about ACA, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I was addressing your concern about protecting the identity of the whistleblower.  Now you're conflating your argument.

You do realize there has already been one hearing, and Schiff himself has said the whistleblower will testify?

First my apologies, I don't know if you saw the original comment before it was moderated but if you did I am sorry I wrote it. I broke my own rule on never mixing alcohol and keyboards.

I was trying to point out that it never ends well for whistleblowers if they are identified. In America recently you have had people attacked for merely being reporters https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-47208909 so someone actually providing evidence of their leader committing an offence could be very dangerous.

"Whistleblowing is a career-limiting phenomenon in the federal workforce." "...That's why a lot of people don't do it."

I did.  And as I generally find your posts well thought and well written, I was rather surprised at this.

Thank you for this.

Perhaps.

But the reverse is also true.

I read, I think on CNN, about a Democrat in the important swing state of PA, who was wholly embraced at her Town Hall, for embracing the impeachment inquiry.

Furthermore, Susan Collins is now no longer silent on Trump's abuse of power.

I guess Mitt Romney is furthering the crack in Trump's support.

FOX Conspiracy Theory and Opinion

This is the type of propaganda which clouds the thinking of Trump supporters. Don't you want to know more about these unsourced allegations anout Democrat Senators threatening to hold Ukraine's military aid if it didn't investigate Trump?

They have the art of projection down pat.

You will find what is happening to our country easily explained in an opinion piece in today's NY Times, written by Peter Pomerantsev:

Rudy Giuliani Welcomes You To Eastern Europe

The piece contains many of the same warnings and examples, that myself and another poster have discussed in the past.

My observations on the blight infecting our country was largely formed by listening to, and reading the work of Russian-American journalist, Masha Gessen, whom I believe I have previously mentioned.

Which brings me to the importance of calling out the blight for what it is.

These are not actions and behaviors and thoughts that anyone should tolerate or try to understand, or put on the same pedestal as true democratic discourse.

It is a blight, an infection that will grow, if allowed to.

And that is exactly what has happened.

The only thing I find interesting at this point, is why people like Barr, who by all accounts enjoyed a solid reputation, until he aligned himself with Trump, decide to flame-out at the end of a long career?

Why would someone actively choose to sully their reputation, and be forever associated with the dark side of American history?

Folks on these threads may think me an alarmist when I muse that we are close to dictatorship, but read the Pomerantsev column, and then look at your posts about Fox, Trump followers, etc.

A bit off topic, these links are about nurse whistle-blowers whose identity was discovered by the criminal physician they reported to the medical board.  They were retaliated against severely.

A short opinion piece in today's WaPo, by Fred Hiatt, gives a rundown on several ways Trump and Friends have already eroded our democracy:

The Defenses Of Democracy Are Giving Way

And the old man continues his moronic rants, again from today's WaPo:

Trump Suggests Pelosi, Schiff Committed 'Treason' Should Be Impeached

Of course, it is a play from Trump's limited play book: Accuse someone else of the very thing you are guilty of.

Because of his limited intellect, Trump has THREE plays, in the play book.

We see this play uses quite frequently.

It is only successful, with the rabid base.
